i went to both collage and uni when i was a jw, i got marked and shunned as a result.
it seemed like every week there would be some dig made from the platform about " those that chose higher education" , my so called "freinds" were constandly on at me " why don't you pioneer highdose?!!".
i even had the ciruit overseer denounce me from the platform as being "spirtualy weak" never mind that most of the peers i grew up with had got themselves reproved or disfellowed and that i was the only who had been good!.
With the exception of a few negative comments from some overlyzealous Witness, we were all treated fine at our congregations.

I went to the Uni in the late 90' early 00'. There were about 8+ JWs from my area, many of them became "pioneers", "need-greaters", MS & elders after graduating. Some event went on to serve at bethel & regional. From what I hear, they are all still in.
i thought this would be an interesting poll that would show everyone the backgrounds of all of us when we left, if we have.. for myself, i am not df'd, but i am attempting a fade.
i still go to some meetings with the wife to help with kids, but that's it.
no commenting or field service.. what about everyone else?.
Fading, will not DA. As others have said, that's their rules and they have no authority over me, so I will not be part of their little game. And if I do DA, it will do it by sending letters (and /or emails) & calls to all of my JW acquaintances, not to the BOE.
i have found it very odd how much in-fighting and back-biting go on among certian boe's.. and it's rather strange that several (not all) of them will vent to me about how they can't stand this one, or they think this other one is out of line, or that elder's wife talks too much, etc.
or they whine about how many elder meetings they have to go to, or how they are frustrated because they have to deal with sister loudmouth-who-pisses-off-everyone-else.. and i sit there wondering why they would ever want to continue to do this job?
it's thankless, offers no compensation, rips you away from your family, and forces you to rub shoulders with company men and puts you in a position where you have to render judgement on someone with little or no understanding of what the psychological consequences to that person could be.
Falcon, I noticed the same. That was actually one the many things that helped me see the truth about the “Truth”.
One of the things that frustrated me the most was that no matter how hard you worked at any “privilege”, it was never good enough for certain members of the BOE, and it was usually those that were trying to reflect their deficiencies on others.
I was commenting to my wife, just this weekend, that one of the things that I’ve been regaining since I resigned was my self confidence and self assurance. It just feels so good to be away such a toxic and demoralizing environment.
So to all of you lurking elders….give it up, it’s not worth it (just my opinion, of course).

here in europe, we have started different initiatives aiming at exposing publicly and legally the watchtower on the subject of ostracism, discrimination and shunning.. in the past we have seen different manifestations held in front of kingdom halls or branch offices on issues such as pedophilia and blood transfusions policies, and even, such as in france, against building of real-estates.
now it seems that the issue of discrimination against disfellowshipped or dissociated people is gaining momentum.
we have seen the large demonstrations in brazil, and maybe the lesser important ones elsewhere.
Nick,
I believe that Article 1 of the Mexican Constitution contains a provision, that could be used as a basis to bright forth the claim that by enforcing a shunning/Ostracism policy against its former members, the Watchtower is encouraging and promoting the violation of the human rights of the Mexican ex JWs. Article 1 of the Mexican Constitution states:
“This article states that every individual in Mexico (official name, Estados Unidos Mexicanos or United Mexican States) has the rights that the Constitution gives. These rights cannot be denied and they cannot be suspended. Slavery is illegal in Mexico; any slaves from abroad who enter national territory will, by this mere act, be freed and given the full protection of the law. All types of discrimination whether it be for ethnic origin, national origin, gender, age, different capacities, social condition, health condition, religion, opinions, preferences, or civil state or any other which attacks human dignity and has as an objective to destroy the rights and liberties of the people are forbidden.”
Here are some other interesting facts that could be used to find out what is the REAL status of the Watchtower legal entities in Mexico. I believe that if some Mexican ex JWs organized themselves to bring a complaint against the WT for Ostracism, that there is a good chance that the court will at least hear the complaint.
The 1992 Law on Religious Associations and Public Worship defines the administrative remedies that protect the right to religious freedom. In August 2001, a provision was added to the Constitution that establishes for the first time a constitutional prohibition against any form of discrimination, including discrimination against persons on the basis of religion
Religious associations must register with the Under Secretariat of Religious Affairs of the Federal Secretariat of Government (SSAR) to operate legally. Although the Government rejects applications because of incomplete documentation, the registration process is routine. An estimated 6,619 religious associations are registered.
To be registered as a religious association, a group must articulate its fundamental doctrines and religious beliefs, must not be organized primarily to make money, and must not promote acts physically harmful or dangerous to its members.Religious groups must be registered to apply for official building permits, to receive tax exemptions, and to hold religious meetings outside of their places of worship.
The SSAR promotes religious tolerance and investigates cases of religious intolerance. All religious associations have equal access to the SSAR for registering complaints.
It will be interesting to see what could happen if the Mexican ex JW file a complaint of “religious intolerance” against the Watchtower.

Bring it to their doors.
Here is the budget I got. The duration of the campaign will be 2 months.
Thanks for contacting…..
For your budget, the only available ad options are interior bus ads, as follows:
1 poster inside each of 100 MTA buses for 2 months for $4,872
1 poster inside each of 200 MTA buses for 2 months for $6,872
Production and installation are free.
They offer a discounted rate of almost 50% if the campaign is from a non for profit organization, and more discounts if you combine the bus ads with Billboards Ads.
Perhaps Silentlambs or Freeminds could sponsor this campaign with our monetary contributions. I agree that the campaign should be geared towards denouncing and raising awareness of the human rights violation perpetrated by the shunning, pedophile protection and other WT policies.
