I finished watching this today. (My wife stayed home from the meeting Sunday so out of respect for her feelings I had to put it on hold.). Wow! Very well done. Very emotional. I thought the title fit. It certainly means so much more to those associated with JW's. Realistically a believing JW could watch but most wouldn't as it presents a fair story from both sides. I think if my wife watched it she would agree with the JW viewpoint.

I found the movie Apostasy on Amazon Prime today. I figured it probably had been addressed here ... And so it has. I just wanted to bump this for those who might have missed it like me.

I would think if there was a class action lawsuit about using these people up and dumping then with nothing, Watchtower would be forced to do something, but the majority of discarded lifetime volunteers have too much to lose and probably still think it's God's Organization. Between a rock and a hard place to be sure.

by NikL ini am shaking all over right now.
i think it's worse that the bunker video.. i used to think there was no way that these people would actually "drink the cool aid" if you get my drift, but seeing this video i am now not sure it could never happen.. having a wife who i love dearly trapped in this cult is really freaking me out right now...

Mind controlling ass hats! I remember dramas and sound dramas that built up that fear and urgency. Now they have video for even more effective emotional manipulation. Same old same old but in new shiny wrappers.

This should eliminate old brothers accidentally scheduling apostates to give public talks in their congregation.

Why do so many that leave wind up coming back?!
by nowwhat? ini have seen so many that have left.
and their life turned into a dumpster fire.
most do not live the average life of living in suburbs, raising a family.

I could see myself going back.
I can't help but think there are a fair amount of JW's there that go along for the ride.
I have no intention of going back.
In my situation, my wife and I have very little social life. At my age, and perhaps partly due to my rural location, there aren't many social opportunities for a married man to form friendships with others that my wife refuses to be a part of.
If I went back to the Kingdom Hall and played up the repentence, I'd have an instant, fairly large group of "friends". Sure, to a degree they are conditional, but aren't all friendships conditional on some level? I had very good friends that I enjoyed activities with that included my wife.
No, my life is not a 'dumpster fire', I have no intentions of going back, especially since I still have a young child, but I can understand the draw.

jp1692 - no, it's a pattern with her, we had a discussion about the invitation ... I brought it up ... she felt it was rude too and had come to that before we talked about it, her reply was basically, to paraphrase "what do you expect, consider the source, it's my brother" ... it's more a marriage problem than anything else and I just don't see much of a point

Liz, I can't imagine what you went through. You are so brave.
I have a close personal friend that was brought up in a JW household and was sexually abused from the age of 4 or 5 until around 12 by her older brother. She didn't tell her parents until she was in her late 30's, so it wasn't a JW cover-up. Her parents chose not to believe her. JW's sure do have a messed up way of dealing with these things.
