Debator needs to start reading his devinely provided spiritual food. The September WT study issue says that the Governing Body does not speak for men, but they speak for God and that when we listen to them, we are in fact listening to Jesus Christ.
Debator, if you are a real Witness, you wouldn't be on this site. The WT says NOT to look at these sites even in defense of "the truth". So if you continue to post on the site, you are disobeying the very men you are trying to uphold.

My mom is addicted to the WTS. I've recently brought up the many false prophecies and she calls almost every week to show me new things that the society has said about false prophets and how they are not one.
The latest was the account where King David wanted to build God a temple. He told Nathan the prophet about his idea and Nathan basically said, Well God is with you, you should do it. Then God appeared to Nathan and told him that it would be Davids son that would build the temple. So does that mean, my mom said, that Nathan was a false prophet for giving David the go ahead. I know that just about all of you would have an answer to that.
Another example the WT likes to use when accusing other prophets of false prophecy is the account of Jonah. They say that he preached that Ninevah would be destroyed by God because of their practices, but Ninevah was not destroyed at that time. They say that this is the same as what they have done in the past with their dates.
How lame are these examples! What is interesting is that they are establishing their identity as "prophets". They are the same as these other prophets, right? They have so much to answer to when standing before Gods great white throne.

i'm in a discussion with a guy who tells jw's at his door that he can't follow their beliefs because, as a military retiree, he is technically and legally on the military rolls forever.. .
anyone know if the society handles a person in this situation differently than anyone else who wants to be part of the congregation?
I would avoid WT policy altogether and use the Bible. Probably won't work but...
Read Acts 10:1-8 and 21-48.
Cornelius was a Roman general. He was in ACTIVE military service. Were his prayers unacceptable to God because of his duties in the military? No. God's own angel said (vs4) , "Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God."
On this same day, while being active in the military in vs 47,48 he was baptized. There is absolutely NO talk about him leaving his military duties at that time. He may have had problems with it later on as persecution towards Christians increased (we don't know). But there were no requirements of him leaving at the time of his baptism. Also note that he did not have to go through questions with 3 elders to be "approved" by them to be baptized.
So regardless of what WT policy is, this shows that one can be acceptable to God while serving in public service. The WT twists the meaning of the scriptures regarding "Being no part of the world". This does not mean being involved in helping or defending others. This largely has to do with attitude towards things of the world. Watch any reality show to see how the world acts. My wife is addicted to them.

so most of you know my story and gave me the advice of taking things slow with my wife and not rushing her in regards to leaving the "o".
so i have been taking things slow, saying things that i appreciated from the meetings, and keeping my mouth shut in regards to everything that makes me want to vomit.. last night we were talking (very amiably) about some things that i said on a youtube comment, which she busted me about.
I hope I'm never in that situation too. Don't get me wrong. I will stand up for myself if this horrible situation was to happen. I just hate hate hate having to sneak around with my beliefs. I see the necessity of it, but I just wish we could be on the same page. Or at least agree to disagree for now.

they will allow child molesters and i cannot stop that.
You did the right thing! Don't let any sort of guilt plague you. They will try to shame you and make you feel guilty for leaving "Jehovah's Organization". But remember that some of the most faithful people in the Bible stood up to a corrupt organization and were blessed by God.
Look at Jeremiah. The nation of Isreal had turned into TRUE apostates. They had actually left God and were doing the most horrible things you could imagine in His temple. But Jeremiah, as a young man, had the courage to stand up against them.
Jesus did the same when He saw what was happening in His Fathers temple. He drove those evil men out with ropes! You didn't even do that...although I would've loved to have seen you do it!!!
if the day jesus died is the most important in the history of man, providing 'salvation' - then i have to ask two questions: why did the gospel writers wait decades to record those final hours, instead of doing so immediately?
if god later 'inspired' them to do so, why couldn't they agree on what jesus said in his absolute final words?

I'm not sure why you think this is a contradiction. He obviously said all three things while on the cross. The beauty of the gospels is that they are different and provide an accurate description of what happened from many points of view. Any seeming contradiction can be shown to fit in with what actually happened, and the falsly termed "contradictions" only add to the beauty of Gods word and strengthen faith.

So I have been taking things slow, saying things that I appreciated from the meetings, and keeping my mouth shut in regards to everything that makes me want to vomit.
Last night we were talking (very amiably) about some things that I said on a youtube comment, which she busted me about. It was just talking about how if my son needed a blood transfusion I would no longer be able to keep quiet. I'm not going to let him die for something I don't even believe in. Well she brought that up saying that even though she will never stop loving me, don't I think that that would be a marriage ender.
Guys...I pussed out. I told her that we would be on the same side of the issue. I kept trying to change the subject, but she kept bringing it up. I just said that to move on to a different subject. But now I feel like I've compromised. Keeping quiet and taking things slow are one thing. But saying you agree with something that you don't feels wrong to me. That's why anytime I say something about a talk that I appreciate, it's only on things that are about the family, or morals or something like that. But now I'm feeling bad about it... :-(

In the last few weeks I've heard several JWs speaking of it as a viable date for the end. It's always presented as a "what if", but it's still being talked about. A couple of people I was in a conversation with brought the date up in connection with the oil spill and what some scientist said about it being a global catastrophy by the year 2012.
I was just wondering if anyone else has heard any mention of this date (or any other) for the end of the world. I know some people on the board have mentioned 2014. But have you heard any specific talk about dates from other Witnesses?

One of the hardest things to understand is how a parent can shun a child. I have 2 kids. I would die for them. If they became Muslim or anything else, yeah I'd try to show them that they are wrong, but my love would never faulter. Witnesses like to quote from 2Tim 3:3 to show that in the last days there would be a lack of natural affection by "worldly" people. Wow...Pot calling the kettle?!?

"In Search of Christian Freedom" by Ray Franz said that there were GB members that believed the real truth, that Jesus WAS referring to Gentile Christians. Sydlik was notorious for this belief. However, I assume that there never was a 2/3 in favor of change.
Loved that article, by the way, Titus. It's so funny how they dance around the question. They go off course by saying that this belief does not take into account Adam and Eve. How did we ever fall for this stuff?!?!?
