Luther and Calvin were good men. Did they have extreme faults? Yes of course. But they fought against the corruption of Christianity.

Did you ever know of a elder wanting montary comp for doing a sheparding visit?
by highdose ini knew an elder who would help and support those in the cong, but in return he expected some kind of compensation such as: goods brought for him or his family, services given for free etc.. this elder had a working class job but lived a very middle class life style because of this unspoken arrangement.
great holidays, new cars and his wife was very much the queen bee of the cong.
hardly wore the same thing twice and delighted in patronising the other sisters who she considered beaneath her.

I DO know that bethellites expect handouts. If you've ever gotten a yearbook in the mail before it gets to the congregation, that is basically a bethellite saying, "Please, sir, can you give me some money? I can't live on this meagerly wage."
The Watchtower doesn't even send out the books for free for bethellites. The bethellite has to pay for the shipping. So they are hoping that from the 10 or so that they send out, someone will be so kind as to send them some money.
No one ever sent me money. Not even my parents. They thought, "Jehovah is taking good care of him."

Luther, Zwingli, Melanchthon, Wycliffe, Knox and others.
You have to remember what they are trying to do here. They are trying to make a connection from themselves to Jesus' apostles. There was supposed to be an unending faithful slave (which there was/is...but it sure doesn't include them), from the apostles down to the end.
In the end though, men like Luther will always be remembered as champions of Gods Word, while men like Russell, Rutherford, Knorr, and Franz will be remembered as destroyers of it.

2011 Yearbook - "Tracing All Things with Accuracy"
by pirata in2011 yearbook - "tracing all things with accuracy", p.9-13.
jesus said that the faithful slave would be discreet in giving the domestics "their food at the proper time.
" christ thus indicated that those who dispense this "food" would be conscientious, prudent, and discerning in providing spiritual food for the household of faith.-matt.

The Writing Department itself has a comprehensive library with thousands of books.
And if you know much about Barbara Anderson, Ed Dunlap, or Ray Franz, you will know that they rarely use these for any theological research. They use them for the pointless articles about a spider web or the migration patterns of the Emperor penguin. What a dishonest piece of kaka... If they were to use real commentaries and lexicons in their theological studies (if you can even call them that) then they would have to throw out 90% of what they believe.

I was waiting for someone to say, some can no doubt sell their homes and finish out the last days in full time service.
At first this was funny...and then I realized...someone could very well say this and get the approving head nods from the rest of the audience.

myelaine, Terry's loss of faith is a tragedy. Especially since he has such a wonderful mind. While he thinks he is "free" now, he is captive of his own thinking. It really is sad.

DON'T SAY THIS WHEN YOU ARE PRAYING!!!!
by brotherdan ini was recently talking with my good friend ding via pm on jwn, and the subject of legalism in prayer came up.
ding has much experience with jehovah's witnesses.
he was never one himself, so i get to teach him some things about the organization that he occasionally does not know.

factfinder, you are on a good road. Please PM me when you get a chance.
Prayer, while being respectful to God, is not a legalistic function. Doesn't God know what is already in your heart? So why would expressing your inmost feelings to him offend Him? If you were to tell God, "I don't understand you, and I don't respect you!" that would be an appropriate prayer. God already knows what you feel. But your expressions to Him show Him that you want to communicate and are willing to humble yourself.
We all (me included) slack on our prayers sometimes. But God knows what we are going through. He knows the doubts we are having about Him. But He is always there for us when we want to come to Him.
