That's because there is no substance to these talks. For the most part I've found that they are shallow and repetative. Seriously. I still have "dubnesia" after listening to them too.

AUDIO: "Dubnesia" demonstrated. JWs can not recall what they heard in a talk
by kurtbethel ini have explained "dubnesia" before, which is that amnesia that jws seem to get about the actual content of their so called spiritual nourishment.
not to criticize, as i always get that after hearing h. ross perot talk.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/188046/1/dubnesia-have-you-had-it.
now i have audio of dubnesia as we hear two jws explain to a householder about how wonderful the talk they heard was.

Business Suits
by IMHO ineveryone knows that as a jw a brother (man) has to wear a suit - matching jacket and trousers (on some occasions an un-matching jacket may be permissable), shirt and tie.. so why do sisters (women) not have to wear business suits (matching jacket and skirt)?.
i thougt of this as i looked at the latest 'gilead graduation' photo.
all the women had business suits on.

The Gilead students are allowed this dress only for the photo. If a sister tried to give a talk wearing a pant suit, she would be counseled. Sad...especially for the ladies with the funky legs...

Another question about disfellowshiping
by XPeterX inif the elders decide to disfellowship someone and after being reinstated it is proved that he didn't commit the wrongdoing, what happens then?do the elders apologise to him?.
-
brotherdan
I'll answer your question with another question:
When the WT promulgates a false prophecy for years and then it fails to come true, do they apologize? No. They will either blame you or blame Jehovah for it. They will say that Jehovah let it happen and he is in full control. That would be the same answer you would get from your elders. They are directed by Holy Spirit, don't you know?

Advice on introducing doubts to friend
by gutted ini am asking you for your opinion/advice on questions or ideas to introduce to my friend to make him start doubting the wbts.
no doubt when he sees my new goatee it will be a bit unnerving for him, maybe i could use this as a starting point.
perhaps you have things that have worked others?

About the goatee... Um...doesn't everyone realize that C.T Russell had a beard?!? The new DVD has most of the actors in beards. This is one of the most silly policies propogated by Rutherford and continued by Knorr. If you look at the publications of the 40's - 60's even Adam and Jesus are portrayed as clean shaven.Yet further control that they are able to excercise over people's lives.
It is funny though that that will probably be the first thing your friend recognizes. At the memorial every year you know the ones that aren't "good" JWs because they have beards or goatees. Screwy...

I totally agree with undercover. At first it does seem to just be an organization that appeals to the lazy of mind and those that want to be told what to do. But they play with lives. They have convinced themselves that they are doing Jesus' work, so they are justified in their policies. As my dad puts it, "This is a perfect organization, run by imperfect men." They hide under the guise of a "Perfect Organization".
But it's so incredibly dangerous and destructive. It ruins families. I personally apply Titus 1:11 to it. I wish there was more we could do to stop the organization. But I've come to the conclusion that it allows God to sift out those that want to serve him for selfish purposes and "earn" their salvation on a fleshly paradise earth, and those that accept His free gift of grace and have a far greater spiritual hope.

watchtower.cc / branch operations manual
by garlic81 inanyone know what happened to watchtower.cc?
anyone know where else one could find a copy of the branch committee operations manual?.
-
brotherdan
Yknot, our copies are identical. I got mine off of the watchtower.cc site when it was up. But now it looks like everyone has access. What I'd REALLY like is the correspondance manual. I've never heard of anyone having that. That contains all the current up to date policies that the WT correspondant desk uses when writing back to people.

Schnell and The Watchtowers everchanging "truth"
by brotherdan ini guess that's not the most interesting sounding topic, but i've been reading william schnells book "into the light of christianity" and came across something that i thought was totally profound.
"i now know that all cults...interpose an intermediary center for salvation.
in this way they sidetrack the true purpose of christianity, which is, to give the image and likeness of jesus christ full play for growth in the individual.

I believe it was written in the 50's or 60's, and it's a bit of a harder read than say Ray Franz's books. But his insights into historic Christianity and how to accept different denominations as beautiful diversity in Christ, is very interesting. I don't know how much I agree yet, but it's a facinating read.

I guess that's not the most interesting sounding topic, but I've been reading William Schnells book "Into the Light of Christianity" and came across something that I thought was totally profound. He says:
"I now know that all cults...interpose an intermediary center for salvation. In this way they sidetrack the true purpose of Christianity, which is, to give the image and likeness of Jesus Christ full play for growth in the individual. The cults eliminate Christ as the center.
In order to create the position of becoming the intermediate center, they must destroy "the form of sound words" and eliminate the gifts appointed to preserve these intact. They must eliminate the positions of pastors, teachers and evangelists by setting themselves up, in their new center of things, as promulgating NEW truths. These truths must be everchanging to maintain a platform of something fresh and new emanating from the NEW center. This must be so to cover up the absence of Holy Spirit. "
This was one of the most profound insights I've heard on the WT structure. I'm really enjoying this book. Has anyone else read it?
