Oh, and 1 other thing. Seeing any woman in a bikini or scantily clothed was viewed as "softcore porn". That was the reason for them not delivering the sports illustrated swimsuit edition to you. I remember being so isolated at Patterson for months and then going to the grocery store on the "outside" and being shocked at the scantily clothed women on the covers of magazines. It was awesome...

Why my Dad was Better than Jehovah
by Dogpatch inwhy my dad was better than jehovah[if !supportemptyparas] [endif].
just to test you, of course.. [if !supportemptyparas] [endif].

I guess I don't understand this post. At first I thought you were talking about the fictional concept of Jehovah that the WT presents. But then by the end it felt like you were insulting Jehovah (or YHWH) himself. How can you be a Christian and reject the God of the OT?

How do people that are reinstated overcome the resentment
by troubled mind inwhat if you were df'd for along time ,say over 10 yrs ,and you were totally shunned by family that whole time .
do you ever come to terms with the resentment of how family treated you ?
has anyone here successfully got back in just to gain family ,and then faded or never got active after that ?

It's a good question. My dad has been an elder for over 20 years and he has told me that the majority of people that get reinstated tell the elders that it was helpful to them in getting their life together. He says that there are far more that are grateful for the disfellowshiping than the ones that are bitter about it.
I really don't know if I can believe that. I would feel betrayed by everyone that I thought loved me.

I was at Patterson from 2000-2002. Even my family couldn't believe that I lasted 2 years. Like I said earlier, I didn't follow rules too well. But I let myself get caught up in the Bethel culture when I was there. I would've defended it to the death, while at the same time I never felt worthy or good enough to be there.

No joke. Read the outline. We were to read a life story every week.

In the past, FAKE newspaper coverage of WT "International Conventions" in the US
by AndersonsInfo inmany people that post or lurk here at jwn are too young to remember some of the huge international conventions jws held many years ago, but probably have seen impressive photos such as of the 1958 eight-day convention held simultaneously at new yorks yankee stadium and polo grounds.
especially remarkable was the tremendous newspaper coverage of that assembly and other special conventions held in the 1940s and 50s in the united states.
yesterday, when i downloaded somebodys old scrapbook full of long-ago newspaper articles, http://www.archive.org/details/watchtowernewsscrapbook,reporting on jehovahs witnesses so-called international conventions, i couldnt help but remember what i wrote regarding extraordinary newspaper convention coverage in my www.freeminds.org article, how jehovahs witnesses watchtower religion impacted my family history, part 3 and thought id share the information here on jwn for those who are not familiar with how such wonderful coverage came about.

I've gotta respect the marketing techniques of the newspapers though... What a good idea on their part. They knew that the witnesses would be gullible enough to buy the papers. And sure enough, they are displayed today as our "theocratic history and heritage". Nice...

Wow darth frosty, that brought back memories. Remember having to read all the life stories of each of the GB members? And I couldn't hang a sports star poster on my wall growing up because it was "idolatry".
Reading through the outline really shows the control that they establish over you from day 1!

Okay, men...need your opinion here, please...
by diana netherton inas i troll through the minefield of cadishness in the dreary dating world i am endeavouring to somewhat understand.
the words that spill out of a man's mouth -- the real meaning versus the words.. .
words: i like you and i like your friendship.

Yeah, gotta agree with my man, Woods. Guys are usually VERY literal in what they say. Girls tend to have a DEEP meaning in certain things they say. If he says he values your friendship, then he's not feeling the spark, but wants to keep you around in a non-romantic way. I would NEVER say that to a girl that I was into.
