JH: You are correct, "the witnesses do think that they are spiritual and also very generous, because they take their time going from door to door." I thought that once to, I'm ashamed to say. But we now know such is truly not the case. Again, you are correct: "Now that's love!" It is in fact a "form" of love, but it is lacking in so so many things as I'm sure you and I can expound upon its lack in voluminous detail. However, "Telling people they will die if the don't come and join the WT" is not something that I had ever done. I'm sure some have (sad to say), but it's not something I ever said to anyone when I went door-to-door. Their spirituality, their generosity, their 'whatever,' is a form but false concept of what those words truly mean. There is too too great a lack in their understanding of these terms. I acknowledge that and agree with you. But I'm not one to deny that they have a form of these things. And it's only when the 'individual' realizes this that there might be a paradigm shift for them to the reality of what things should be from themselves inside their being.

Frankly, I would much rather fraternize with and live among, be friends with, atheist(s) who are kind, loving, respectful, etc., than to live among those who claim to be 'spiritual' and believers in God and who are not kind, loving, respectful, etc.

Teenyuck: I wouldn't necessarily go for calling someone names. That would make you . . . well, let's just leave it at that. You've heard the expression if you can't beat 'em, join 'em? Well . . . I don't think you'd want to 'join 'em.') The best scenario would probably be to tell them exactly what you yourself just stated. "You are an old, bitter, hateful, ungrateful, sour woman," and leave it at that. That, in and of itself, will in all likelihood stop her dead in her tracks with her mouth agape (and I don't mean a-ga-pe). Having said that, turn you back and walk out, and do not return.

Is is not possible to do goodness from a place of trueness in one's heart? Yes, it is. And Paul himself wrote that 'when people of the nations do by nature the things of the law,' they are in fact doing what the Deity desires to be done, whether "they" recognize the Deity or not. The answer to your question is--Yes.

JH, I agree with you. And so does James the writer of the book/letter of James in the New Testament. James plainly states exactly what you have stated here. Those kinds of people are not 'spiritual' in the true sense of the word. 'Spirituality' MUST HAVE practicality. James says so. Christ says so. God says so. Without practicality it is not true 'spirituality.' Some people pick and choose what they will do as far as 'goodness' is concerned. Much like going door-to-door (which is a good thing, although misguided), but not helping somebody who is hungry. JH, I couldn't agree with you more.

Doesn't your question depend on how you define those two terms? Good? Jesus is recorded to have said that no one is good except God. (But most of us understand what you mean by 'good' when you use the word 'good.) A poster here says that 'goodness' is one of the fruits of the spirit--true. However, doesn't that imply that the actual word 'goodness' REQUIRES action, which is preceded by thoughts toward and comtemplating that action. Depending upon the translation you read, the word 'spiritual' is rare in the Bible. But like I said, it is found in some English translations. don't think the Master ever used the word though. At least, I don't think he is recorded to have used it. We KNOW God and Christ want 'goodness' emanating from us. And isn't one (spiritual) dependent upon the other (good)? And vice versa? How do you have one without the other. On the other hand, you can have a person seemingly appearing 'spiritual' but who in fact does no goodness or does some goodness TO BE SEEN BY MEN, as Jesus is stated to have said. They are getting their reward if full--yes?

The Next Teaching to Fall

while many have had their hopes dashed concerning the change on this "generation " teaching, there is yet another teaching yet to fall very soon.it must and will fall because it connected to the generation doctrine that has already been changed.. the teaching that could shortly cause the governing body a serious problem and could bring about a major change for the vast majority of the rank and file is "the great tribulation".while this teaching has been put off to the " indefinite future"the gb.continues to have a serious problem with it.if the great tribulation fails to occur reasonably soon,the doctrine concerning the earthly hope for the vast majority of jw's.will have proven to have been false.the' great crowd' are those who will have come out of the great tribulation.according to the society those persons began to be identified as present as early as 1932.so the youngest members are now in their 70's or 80's.. again, the time-line is running out!

and has the potential of adversely affecting hundreds of thousands of other witnesses in the not to distant future,as time passes without the fulfilment of their hopes for a new heavens and a new earth.. also, some time ago,there was a watchtower study article, i don't remember which one it was .it spiritualized, armageddon!

psalm 91,especially verse 7.it said that a thousand will fall at your very side and ten thousand at your right hand,applies to those leaving the org.

Hi Blueblades: Yes, you are correct and I stand corrected. It was in 1969 when the Society put off the great tribulation AS BEING A PAST EVENT. Thus, putting it off until a future time--1975. However, when 1975 came and went, it was after this that the Society put the GT off until an indefinitely future time. What I was referring to was that the Society changed it's teaching about the GT from a past/current event (in 1969) so that the great crowd has reason to BE/EXIST. I used the wrong term--"indefinite future time." The great crowd has no reason to exist now because the GT which causes their existence and from which they "come out" hasn't happened and because it is a future tribulation.

Yes, the Society taught that between the two world wars, that was the period that the days of the great tribulation were "cut short" such that the great crowd began appearing or "came out." In 1969 the teaching of the great tribulation was put off to an indefinitely future time. But they forgot to put the great crowd into the indefinitely future time also. You CANNOT keep the one (great crowd) if you throw out that which causes their coming into being. Yes, the teaching will fall shortly.

The simple answer is, No. As you have mentioned in your post, the law has been done away with. However, that does mean we are to be lawless (as also mentioned by Paul). If, then, we are NOT TO FOLLOW THE LAW, then what/who are we supposed to follow. Our Lord answers that question quite succintly too. He says: Follow ME. Simple enough? What does following Him entail? It means DOING the things he did or would do. It means teaching the things He taught, not what an organization teaches.
