Since I was laid off from my job the previous week, I was sleeping in. The wife called me from her friend's house and said that a plane had hit one of the WTC buildings. It didn't register at first being that I was half asleep. I think I told her "uh huh, ok" and she then told me to get out of bed and to turn on the tv. I dragged myself out of bed, lumbered into the living room and flipped the remote. I think the first thought that ran through my half-consciousness was, "This is weird. Why are they showing this on tv? This looks like some kind of movie." And then it clicked all at once. Oh my god. This is for real. And then the second plane hit. Holy $hit, this MUST be an act of terrorists. There ain't no way in hell two airline pilots are that bad.

Is there anyone from the Hotlanta area? I will be down there for a week in November. This trip will not be like my last to the west coast. I was just too slammed most of the time to play at all out there or else I would have notified a few of you. Besides, when you tell your old jdub buddies that you are in town, that severely limits your association! This trip will be more of a work/vacation bash. I would love to meet up with some folks while I am there so I can put together more names with faces. A mini fest would be great. Hell, I would even spring for the steaks, brats, and beer if someone could provide a grilling aparatus(Yes, I would cover all food items!). Surely this is more than enough of an advance notice. What is the weather like in late Nov? Rainy? Nice? Good enough for golf? I may deal with the hassle and bring my clubs with me if the weather is going to be nice.
I will be hotel'ing it somewhere near the Duluth area as that is where I will working during the day hours. After that, I'm game for anything. I have never been to the Atlanta area, only through the airport. I would be interested in what there is to do while I am there. Are there any good microbreweries in Atlanta? I also like Sushi/Japanese, Cajun, Jamaican, Pub fare, Mexican(although I think I will pass on this in Atlanta....), and Seafood.
Any and all replies are gratefully appreciated!

Wow, someone else who knows them. Well, since all the daughters have been married off and are now gone, they sold their big blue house that was midway in town and moved into a smaller one. He is still the PO and Joyce is still sewing like usual. Shoot me an email and I'll give you some more info if you'd like.

My family and I are good friends his brother's family, Lothar and Joyce who are in the Fairfield, IA congregation. That is about all I can say without giving out too much information. Mulan, you are lucky to be close to Reinhardt. I remember a long time ago about the fallout between him and his family. He probably already knows this, but you may want to let him know that his niece and her husband, Naomi and Carl Zahari, are serving at Patterson. He works in the video department. They are the only blood relatives of his that I know of that are at Bethel.
I sure would like to talk with him someday, he may remember me.

LOCAL NEEDS TALKS, ANY YOU REMEMBER?
by minimus inone of the best tools the elders have to counsel the congregation is the local needs part.
how does one usually get picked for this talk?
generally, during an elder's meeting, one elder will have his pet peeve.he convinces the body that this issue has to be handled by the body.

There is only one local needs talk that I can remember. Roughly two weeks or so before the talk, a young sister and brother(in their mid-teens) were publically reproved. I knew what it was they were reproved for as her sister and I were really good friends. The local needs talk was based on something of a sexual topic. The elder giving the talk was very explicit, almost too explicit for those in attendance that night. My wife and I were newly married then and she was fairly new to my hall. Well, this elder who gave the talk started talking about "caressing breasts," "mutual masterbation," and a few other HOT phrases. You could tell the entire hall was very uncomfortable listening to his talk as he kept going on and on. After the talk was over, everyone watched B*****y as she walked out of the hall crying. She was saying to herself quietly as she was walking to the back, "oh my god, oh my god" with her hands covering her face.
After we had left the meeting that night, my wife said, "Wow, I guess you don't want to do anything bad in this hall, huh?" Nope!

Cars for Service
by freedom96 indo you remember how many people would buy a car, with service in mind?
i remember people talking about how not to buy a 2 door, because it is not as good for going out in service.
people would be looked down upon big time if they bought a sporty or compact car.

I would love to have the CO get into my car right now. I believe the last song I heard playing from my CD player was Pistol Grip Pump by Rage Against the Machine.

My wife and I bought a certain sedan a few years back for its reliability and resale value(take your pick of the remaining 3 or 4 cars in the world). The vehicle was primarily for the wife as I already had a company vehicle. Wouldn't you know it, she ends up being the designated driver while she was pioneering as the other pioneer's were quite poor and had beaters for cars. Plus, she wanted the 4-door over the 2-door coupe that I wanted simply because of service reasons(we had a big argument over the 2-door vs. the 4-door, I lost). Anyways, to make a long story short, she racked up over 60k miles in about a year and a half's time; we're pushing the century mark now. Needless to say, the resale value today has plummeted greatly compared to a similar vehicle with lower mileage.
It's too bad that the SUV that we are looking at does not come in a two door version. I would go out and buy it without her knowing I did and make her tough it out. Although, she is not a pioneer anymore and the hall that we are in has plenty of Caddie's in the lot. I have yet to ride in one for service.

Hey Quotes, I sure hope that BMW of yours is a two door if you're aiming for that "I'm not a jw - can't you tell by my car" look. Depending on which part of the country you are in, some dubs drive pretty fancy cars, but in most cases, they are all four door models. Gotta have that theocratic car for service!
Me wearing a suit? Certainly not for work, HA HA HA! Jeans, shorts, t-shirt, whatever. I do not interface with the general public and my only customers are internal ones to the company. It's not like they care either. The Dockers look is for the sales reps, not the engineers.

Why are sisters not allowed to wear trousers???
by Tish inafter posting a reply to another thread i wondered if anyone can answer these questions??.
1. why are sisters not allowed to wear trousers?.
2. when sisters where a skirt why have they got to be below the knee?.
-
Jourles
The reason for the 'skirt above the knees' rule is simple. I remember one occasion when we had the CO visit our hall. If I remember right, I believe he was at the hall for a dress rehearsal for one of the assembly parts. After the sisters' part on the kingdom hall stage, he explained to them that when they actually give the part at the assembly, they MUST wear skirts lower than the knees. He then proceeded to get up on stage and sat down on the chair and faced toward the auditorium seats. He drew a line with his index fingers across the top of his knees and explained that if a sister was to wear a shorter skirt, then when she was to sit down, that skirt would then be up above the knees and be too revealing. The idea was if this skirt were to get hiked up after sitting down, any bro with some bino's in the audience could take a peek, and that is why it would be improper to wear a shorter skirt.
I'm afraid I can't help out on the pj item. I can't say I have even heard of that one before.

I have a question. Whenever the WTS gets involved in a court case where there is a lawsuit being issued from the witness family/person for a substantial amount of money and the WT attorneys are representing the family, does the WTS ask for a percentage of any monies recovered? Most times, attoneys who take a lawsuit to court and win typically ask for ~40% of the winnings. If a lawsuit is settled out of court, then usually the take home pay can be in the range of 25-35%. I have always wondered if the same holds true for the WT bottom dwellers. I can see them asking for reimbursement though for all court costs and other pertinent fees associated with a trial, if it goes that far.
