lostwun here, i joined 2 months ago but am now just finding the courage after doing more research to formally introduce myself to the board and embrace my new beginnings as an ex-jw.
i am a second-generation jw.
i grew up with parents who are well known and very respected in many circuits.

getting a new support system outside the dubs is a necessity but will be slow process. Deprogramming usually takes at least two years, it's amazing how entrenched in mind control JWs are until you leave.
There are a lot of great people here who have been where you are in your journey. And also lots of opinions. The one thing I think is important is to love yourself and find out who you truly are.

I went to nursing school while a witness. Did the mental gymnastics around the blood issue. Didn't go to the Red Cross to learn about blood donations (got excused because of religious beliefs) 😱 Reasoned that I didnt ordered blood and would've interfere with the doctor/patient relationship but I would usually ask other nurses to hang the blood for me.
I held to this policy of mine while even a nurse-practitioner (Certified Nurse-Midwife) until I left the JWs. I was truly free and relieved that I could practice on scientific principles instead of men's mumbo-jumbo.
There is a lot of mental gymnastics that goes on between scientific principles and fundamental religions.
we pulled into a hotel parking lot saturday around 6pm on the return leg of a wonderful family vacation to new england - an then fate stepped in---a man in a suit got out of a car with the rest of a picture perfect family.
i immediately noticed all the name tags--- and my blood pressure spiked 50pts- damn!!
i was booked in a 4 story hotel full of jws-- the only time they took off the name tags was in the swimming pool- they were so proud of themselves.. at 6:30 am the hot water went cold in the wife's shower- what do you expect on the 4th floor when a herd of jws is trying to get ready at the same time?

I grew up in St Louis, but can't remember Black Jack (will google it) but isn't it near Ferguson???
late 50's my parents studied and went to the Kinloch KH (morphed into the Florissant cong). Kinlock was a small city in the St Louis suburbs with an all black government. Not heard of anywhere in the USA in the late 50's. Kinlock borders Ferguson,

I, like you, could not put it down. Put a bible cover over it and read it during a Sunday meeting. (much better than the talk and watchtower and no lightening came down to expose me) hehe
Watch how the house of cards fall down. But be careful, as others have warned here. Take it slow, if you mentally can, so you can reach your wife and other family members. (me, I wanted to quit touching the disgusting thing (WTBTS) immediately after reading COC, but husband at the time convinced me to take it slow. It helped get our grown children out, but nothing for the rest of the family. Everyone will respond differently.

its inevitable that at some point in time, people will look back and see that the exjw community was right about the watchtower organization and the bible..
i have some friends who are catholic, protestant, and some who dont associate with any religion but believe jesus will come in their lifetime.
we are such a small minority compared to christians that we are viewed as ignorant when it comes to religious matters.

i was raised a jehovah's witness, so i know all the "ins-and-outs" of their theology and belief system..
in my view, they can become a part of mainstream christianity and lose their cult status by making just a few changes for the better:.
1: stop their severe shunning practices.
Don't forget the "2 witness" rule.... report all child abuse to authorities, to be handled by trained professionals.
