I was thinking of sharing this with my mom, but honestly I don't think it would have any impact at all. Everyone knows that some who partake are not "annointed", all dubs know that.

On the back of the invite it has the question mark pointing to the feet, will they pull something out of their asses and actually "reveal" this last world power? I hope it's the UN! lol

help appreciated...any success or failures at truly conscious efforts to make new friends after a life in jwland? As a very social person i still only seem to have ex-dubs as my new friends...
by oompa inas a jw...at least if you were social...you could walk into about any hall and find other social jw's you could become friends with...yes they are conditional...perhaps more so than other friends, but i did have some great friends there and i still miss them.
since my wake up....then departure....now df status....i realize that i have had only seven or so real friends and five were found here..... five are fairly local, one is far away, and one is an old high school friend i have reconnected with (lives a thousand miles away).....and i have met some nice people through these friends but they are more aquaintances than close friends.
the bar scene did not really get me anywhere with guys or girls...and i tried meetup.com but as of yet have not connected with anyone....so what worked for you?

The main thing is taking initiative and finding common interests.
The few good friends I've made at work, and actually hang out with outside of work, we have common interests (music/jamming/going to shows). First I've worked on being friendly to everyone and simply saying hi. From there I try to be open to conversation, though it can be hard. Sometimes people will invite you for a coffee or drinks after work, go! Also go to as many company sponsored events as you can, like the Christmas party.
Once I found some common interests then I invited those people out for a drink. Those people know people, and you might make friends with them, who knows.
Be open to any possibility, but tied to none.

How should I start a brief conversation with her at the Self Check Out Lane especially when I am busy?
by Iamallcool infew days ago, i went to the grocery store, i was busy scanning my grocery at the self check out lane, then there was a gorgeous lady scanning her stuff beside me and she smiled at me.
i never smiled at her back or say anything to her because i just do not know what to say to her especially when i am busy scanning my grocery.
how should i start a brief conversation with her when i am busy in the self check out lane?

It doesn't matter what you say, there is no perfect or awesome thing to say. Say... ANYTHING. First thing that pops into your head. A simple hello, maybe a compliment, and then just start shooting the shit.

I also disagree with steve2. It's great if everyone is politically correct and respects everyones feelings (and I think laverite did), but in the case of a cult I think it is warranted to use tactics to hopefully open up the close-minded indvidual. I think the best method is as outlined in Combatting Cult Mind Control, through a slow process of questioning and role-playing but unfortunately you can maaaybe get that with select closer friends and family.
I think now I would go with something like wobble said, that I used to believe it but a further and deeper search of the history of the society made me change my mind. Then I would encourage them to do the same and that's it.
Honestly I think this is more for the benefit of ourselves, because it's a very slim chance a JW would change their mind at the door. They are already in a very defensive mode when they approach. So it's more for our sanity to find something to convey to them that we have learned and hopefully plant that seed for later on. If we simply say "thanks bye" like I am inferring steve2 would suggest, then nothing is gained, for our sake or the JW.

Did therapy help you?
by gutted ini am considering going to a therapist.
even though i believe i have gotten better and made some progress (it has been roughly a year since i stopped attending meetings, doing anything jw-wise), i still have a lot of negative self-talk which is hard to overcome, especially during off days like today.. i find the hardest things for me is low self-esteem and social interactions/anxiety.
i'm sure some of you can sympathsize, and though i am not fully blaming my issues soley to my jw upbring (born-in) i know it compounded those issues.. .

If any of you have been to therapy after leaving, can you let me know if it was positive or negative for you?
Thanks

It depends, OP can also refer to Original Poster (person who started the thread).
I've thought a lot about what I would say to a JW and I do like this take on it. It would be nice to have something concise to say in regards to their history or something that might get their gears going.
I was thinking of being polite then "I have to be honest guys... I used to believe it too, then I went on the internet... don't do it, don't go on the internet if you want to stay in". Reverse psychology perhaps? -

Does being a JW make you narcissistic
by wyorobert ini am one of the few people on earth who never had a jehovah's witness knock on my door.
my wife was the first witness i ever met.
i did notice certain personality traits after being around some of the people who left the religion.

My take on this is that if the person already had narcissistic leanings it would make them even more so. There are nice JWs and assholes alike. I couldn't call myself a narcissist when I was in because I had crushing guilt even if I "knew" I was completely right... because I could never live up to that ideal anyway. That being said the elitist idea prevailed, but more from a place of fear to not get close to people so that they would not corrupt me with their evil ways.
I believe this creates such a duality in the individual, and most people that act arrogant are crippled with self-doubt and low self-esteem anyway... it really is hard to say if they are truly "narcissistic", I think other words fit better.
It truly is a mindfuck.

As tec said, your best bet for work is Western Canada currently. Being a software developer you are best off in a large city; West coast you have Vancouver (very expensive to live, but beautiful city), Calgary (huge oil and gas contigent) etc.
Canada is a beautiful country, you will be taxed more heavily then in the US but you will enjoy free health care, cleaner streets, less crime etc.
Culturally Canada is very diverse as far as ethnic background, but in general Canadian people are polite and friendly but more reserved and to themselves then Americans.
That's kind of the quick synopsis, if you have more questions fire away.
