I am curious to know how this would affect the "individual publisher" if an accident were to happen and a pedestrian was injured due to tripping over the cart or something similar. Has anything like this ever happened? Would they be left to deal with the situation entirely on their own?

Hmmmm, I use every opportunity I can to remind my JW relatives how cushy life is for them these days.
Back in the 1960s pioneers spent 100 hours every month, in ALL weathers, knocking on peoples' doors the old fashioned way, carrying heavy book bags full of watchtower literature, and were expected to have bible studies, and report a respectable number of literature placements and return visits every month.
Even the rank and file publishers had to do a minimum of 10 hours a month traipsing round the streets placing a respectable amount of Watchtower literature which actually involved making an effort to engage people in conversatioin at every door we visited.
They don't know they're born these days sitting by their little carts playing with their phones. JWs have never had life so cushy .

Best statement a householder made to get you to leave them alone.

a window opened on the floor above me.
a grizzled old man stuck his head out and said, " we're all heathens here!

how absolutely ridiculous of me to go to the door, during a snowstorm, with my five year old son and have that happen😨
Ahh but don't forget the angels were protecting us all. At least that was what we were told to believe.
As a teenage pioneer working alone for much of the time, I lost count of the dangers I faced. Men opening doors completely naked, total weirdos inviting me in for a "chat", an alcoholic couple inviting me in to a room full of booze and asking me to drink with them. The list goes on.....
Yet my parents believed I was perfectly safe from harm as I was doing Jehovah's work.

When you were an active WT door knocker... How did you knock?
by LoisLane looking for Superman inon the door frame, on the door, door knocker, bell.. loud, very loud, regular, soft... gentle... or just pretended and never knocked at all?
we just had a city worker come a knocking on our front door and my responce after she left was, she should go down to the local kingdom haul and give lessons.
her knock was so loud, she could raise the dead.

I am curious about what has happened to your old bold CO.
He sure was a wierd and wonderful personality, a definite "one off". Some of the elders in the congregation used to dread his visits as he was horrible to them, but strangely enough was very kind and supportive of us lowly sisters. He used to call me "honey" . This all happened between 40 and 50 years ago, but apparently he and his wife are still alive and kicking but now are just regular members in a congregation somewhere in the South of England I believe. He must be very old by now!

Assembly Dramas:They were so bad.... but.... you waited for them to break away from the monotony!
by RULES & REGULATIONS in.
you do remember the four day assemblies... sitting outdoors being fried in the sweltering heat, getting heat stroke in the middle of july in an outdoor baseball stadium.sitting outdoors from 9:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. was so much fun while you wore a suit, long sleeve shirt and a tie while your brain fried.
mom's who had children to take care of,lug strollers, feed all the kids, take them for bathroom breaks and try to not faint from the heat.. the sound and audio was always breaking and barely audible from the wind, airplanes flying over and (if you attended the cicero, illinois circuit )you would smell horse manure from the horse stables next door.. you know that you are a jehovah's witness.... when the only excitement waiting for the drama... where brothers and sisters dress up in ancient cloths, fake beards, fake rocks and fake soldier uniforms and wave their hands incessantly to pretend that they are acting out a drama.the excitement was unbearable!.

I was in one of those dramas back in the 1960s. The sound was all pre recorded for us to mime to, and being English, I thought it was really cool walking out on stage miming to the dulcet tones of that American sister's gorgeous voice. I have never sounded so good before or since lol.

This CO turned to me and said,"what's more important, sleep or Jehovahs word.He banged on the door like the police.
Ooh that brings back some seriously cringe worthy memories from my pioneer days! I can remember working with a CO who would bang hard on every door, and if he knew they were in, he wouldn't give up. He would look for another means of access, even getting into their back yards while they were sunbathing !! One poor woman was dozing on a lounger wearing nothing but a skimpy bikini and woke up to find two bible punching wierdos standing over her. She was absolutely terrified! The fact he was trespassing didn't bother him in the slightest, as "Jehovah's word" was far more important. How we didn't end up in a police cell is a mystery!!
Personally, I was always mindful of night workers and sleeping babies, so always knocked quietly and never more than once.

New "Become Jehovah's Friend" Video - The Ransom
by pale.emperor in: https://www.jw.org/en/publications/videos/#mediaitems/allvideos/pub-pk_e_26_video.
sickening propaganda for our young ones.
they've laid off on the "armageddon will be here soon" angle and now it's all about "hope".

There is certainly no talk about never growing old in this system of things, Elsa will no longer be around to remind them how wrong they were.
How true. Judging by the age of Elsa, she would probably have been in her 40s during the early 1970s when we were all being told as a total certainty that Armageddon was imminent and that "millions now living will never die". The buzz in the air and the feeling of expectation was almost electric at all the conventions during that era.
Now, poor Elsa is dying of old age and probably (secretly) feeling very disappointed and disillusioned. I know this is probably true as I have seen it first hand in elderly witnesses who are still trying to remain faithful but secretly bewildered that the promise of eternal youth in a paradise earth has not come true.
Meanwhile, a distressed Sophia is just being told to "hope" Elsa will be resurrected.
What a sad little video

Making life and death/life altering decisions based on commands from someone you're not sure exists
by jambon1 instraight from the off, i will say that i'm 100% atheist.
i have no faith.
however, it occurred to me while thinking back over my involvement with the jw religion and especially when i take into account personal and family situations where people have made life altering choices due to being jw's, just how crazy it really is.

...but the governing body of JW's DOES exist!!!
I think this says it all really.
Jehovah / Governing Body........Governing Body / Jehovah.......reality / make believe........make believe / reality.......
When you are brain washed, how can you possibly know what reality is?

I would like to rant about how I get really upset when I get some weak invitation back to the cult.
by schnell inmy mother wanted me to know that the co gave a talk that kinda-sorta reprimanded an elder in her hall.
he is not the reason i left at all, and this does not address anything to do with me or our family.. my mother-in-law sent me texts which i ignored and now she has sent a picture to my wife on facebook just for me, and it's a prodigal son meme that says, "you see the signs, come back it's not too late".. yeah, it's not too late to accept a global flood in 2370 bce, or that man was created in 4026 bce from a golem spell, or that an us-and-them cult mentality is at all healthy or loving, or that religion is going to be banned by the un, or that i should expect anyone else at the door to accept these stupid ideas in the information age.. what am i supposed to say?
i usually just ignore them, but before i do that, i see that shit and i storm into this weird internalized rage where i start writing a response and deleting it.

The thing that is so frustrating is that most JWs seem incapable of acknowledging the fact that you are leaving the religion because you no longer believe it to be The Truth.
In their eyes the only possible reason for leaving is that you have become weak by not attending all the meetings, or allowed yourself to be "stumbled" by some brother or sister.
When I was an active JW I lost count how many times I used to hear JWs saying that they were sure ex brother or sister so and so "knows it is the Truth" and that they will soon come to their senses, or just need guiding back with love and encouragement. Ahhhhhh!!
