Special day Last talk "No formula"

this weekend at our special assembly day, let gods will take place the final talk was a head shaker.... the bethel speaker was quite entertaining when he joked @ the shortcomings of the elders.

he also made us laugh with the comment "we were told the end of the system is right around the corner, but we've found its been more than that, we've been around the blocks a few times.

" he told the young ones to make the truth their own by researching in the wtbts publication (only).

Oh how hilariously witty, I wish I had been there to join in the happifying mirth spewing forth from that jovial Bethel boy's mouth, thinking about how my generation back in the late 1960s were told to leave school and wash windows or do menial cleaning jobs to support us as we pioneered our way through the last days of this wicked system.

We were told as FACT that any college course we started would be a complete waste of time because armageddon would be here before we had a chance to finish it. Those wise words from the GB came in 1969, and oh, isn't it so funny that they got it wrong, tee hee, and my generation are all retiring now with nothing more than a meagre state pension to live off.

I don't know what makes me more mad, the fact he actually made a joke about this or that there would have been dozens if not hundreds of my generation there (who had also had their lives ruined by the GB) joining in the laughter.

Words fail me.

Climate change and the WBTS.

at this year's dc we heard the org's analysis on climate change and the deteriorating ozone layer.

we were told that jehovah will destroy those who destroy the earth, including those who chop down trees that are supposed to give oxygen in exchange for our carbon dioxide.. surely such a big corporation should have done a thourough research and found that they are also culprits.

they print millions, if not billions, of literature each year.

This is something that has always bugged me even as a dub! I can remember this subject being raised at a convention many, many years ago and all the thousands of people around me nodding in agreement. Each one of these thousands of pairs of hands were holding literature printed by the WTB&TS, on paper that had come from CHOPPED DOWN TREES!!!!

Each one of those thousands of people would be going out knocking doors at the earliest opportunity offering more of this printed literature to householders who would most probably walk straight to the nearest bin and dump it as soon as the door was closed.

I would also have visions of visits to the WT printing works where they proudly showed off the enormous reams of paper waiting to be printed into literature that was just stating the same propoganda over and over again.

Why could no-one else see the irony except for me?

Awww, I used to love looking at that little dino inside the cover of the NWT. I found it quite comforting for some reason, probably because he looked as lost and lonely as I sometimes felt. Sorry they have killed him off in the later editions

Just why would god create dinos??

the jw answer to this is that there must have been some purpose for them that we don't yet understand.. but dinos were pretty violent, basic animals who killed without mercy.

i know not all of them but alot of them did.

the ones that were vegetarian ate huge masses of vegatation, how is that productive to the earth?.

I think I might ask some of my JW nephews and nieces this question if I get the chance. It might be a good way of starting an innocent little chat to encourage them to do some independent thinking

this morning i took my dog who is a therapy dog over to the hospital and visited with several patients.

it is quite an experience, and it really helps people undergoing medical treatment to calm down and relax.. my wife was one of those patients, she is undergoing some tests before getting her gall bladder removed which will probably be sometime tomorrow.. afterwards i took the dog home, cleaned her up, and changed my clothes.

since i was alone i drove over to panara to try one of their breakfast sandwiches, several of the nurses told me that they are pretty good.

I am so glad to hear your wife has had her op and I wish her a very speedy recovery, especially having such a lovely husband to take care of her.

Oh, man in black, I am so sorry for what you had to endure in Panara. It is bad enough at any time, but the day before your wife is about to have major surgery and you get treated like that!! How wonderfully Christian of them.

I admire you for dealing with the situation so well and with such dignity. I think I would probably have got so wound up I would have shouted out "thanks for all the CHRISTIAN LOVE and SUPPORT in my hour of need" as I was leaving, just to show them all up. I feel so angry right now

Please keep us informed of your dear wife's progress. Thank goodness she does not have the elders breathing down her neck about blood.

Oh, and give that lovely doggy of yours an extra pat from me xxx

I would like Mr Penny to explain how action such as this towards a member, who's only crime is to express individual thinking, does NOT imply strong cultish undertones.

Also, why is there such a fear of the rank and file being swayed by alternative thinking among the ranks if their belief is supposedly so strong? Surely the thoughts of an individual would not be a serious threat unless there was some danger of them having doubts themselves?

Are you going to Auxilliary Pioneer this October?

the little demo at the ca showed a young fella meditating and by golly he reasoned that october had an extra weekend so that was reason enough for him to put in a a pioneer application.

what a brilliant idea.. who else will be doing this?.

If You Had 5 minutes to Create Doubt

i regularly encounter jw's i knew while studying and it kills me that they would likely not listen long enough for me to tell them the truth about the truth.

my mother says "don't even bother.

it's like finding out you were adopted.

Roxanesophie I think your mother's illustration is a very accurate analogy of the JW mindset and emphasises how difficult it is to get through to them.

Believe me, if I had the formula for 5 minutes of reverse witnessing I would let everyone know!! My heart drops everytime I hear of yet another youngster in the family getting baptised and wasting their young lives sitting in stuffy meeting halls and traipsing up and down people's pathways instead of fulfilling their REAL dreams, or to feel justified in using their considerable talents to the full instead of waiting for the 'New System' before they are allowed to relax and be normal without feeling guilty.

I think the best thing to do is as wobble said, let them see that you are leading a happy and fulfilled life, and continue to show them kindness, support and be interested in them and concerned for them if they have problems, which is probably more than they will get from the 'loving' brothers in the congregation. You will then prove to them by example that 'apostates' are not the cold hearted, evil creatures under the control of Satan that the WTS makes us all out to be. I have already had several occasions when JW family members with problems have received compassion and support from me and hubby, and other 'worldly' family members, yet received nothing from the people they should have got it from, i.e. the 'loving' brothers.

I`ll play the devils advocate : generation change

i have the wt may 15 1994 scan with the birthdates & deaths of the 16 people featured, and it occured to me using wt logic,that you could extend the generation timespan this way.. #6 d.d.

was born in 1892 and died in 1984. that was the earliest birth of this group.

#4 j.e was born in 1912 and died in 1997. the age gap between these two is 20 years.
