Alerts etc

i wonder if it's possible for those of us who've been out decades to have alerts or alternatively see a grouping of threads in a folder or something similar if something actually happens of interest in the borg.. i'm not really interested in the day to day stuff about this cult but i would like to know if anything drastically changes as my siblings and their kids are still trapped.

i don't know anything about creating the code for forums so i don't know what is possible but if you don't ask you don't get.

this is not a criticism it's just time for me to move on and just drop in occasionally..

If anyone says "Who is your presiding overseer?" Those are really old words now. Or asks, who is your district overseer? They might not know that there are no longer any district overseers.

This is really interesting LoisLane. I never understood why words or expressions were changed and then often changed back again. I wonder if this is why Fred Franz changed the term for field service back in the early 70s? We had always said that we were "on the ministry" and then suddenly we had to say that we were "out in service". This lasted a few years, then it was back to using the word "ministry" again. It seemed such a lot of fuss over the use of a word.

I feel very heartened by the sensible, considerate comments here. My mother is 90 and up until the last few years her life has consisted of going to meetings and out in field service. She is entirely disabled now which is awful for someone as dedicated and active as she has always been. When I hear that she has managed to physically get to a meeting (a very rare occurrence these days) I always praise her and tell her how thrilled I am for her. There are times when, out of compassion and kindness, we should keep our personal feelings to ourselves.

My advice would be to wish your dad well and praise him for his achievement. It will mean a lot to him, and in years to come when you look back on your memories, you will be so glad you did this

last week we had a reassurance ultrasound with our ob.

she was just supposed to check heartbeats on the two little ones and they were going strong!

but because she had extra time and she can be quite anal about her work (which is a good thing) she decided to take some measurements.

Wow, this is fascinating! I can imagine my grandmother ( just 4 years old at the time), as one of those tiny children appearing in the film, maybe on a family holiday. It is a wonderful and rare glimpse into the past. Thank you so much for this Hecce

keep in mind that this is the most important night of the year for the witnesses.

Thank you very much for your interesting comments. If I misunderstood the meaning of the song then I stand corrected (it doesn't take much to confuse me these days ) but I hope you agree it is an easy mistake to make when the song is written in the present tense, which does rather bring to mind those still living and active, not the vast majority of anointed who are dead.

It would be interesting to know who the average rank and file JWs thought this song was about.

Surely, a memorial of someone's death, by its very definition, should be all about remembering that person who has passed away, not praising a group of men who are very much alive and kicking.

It is amazing that in this day an age of scientific enlightenment people still believe that earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural occurences are some kind of mysterious magical punishments that happen as a result of disobedience towards their God.

What a horrible text. Report your nearest and dearest to the elders which will probably result in them getting df'd and you will then have to shun them forever.

If this isn't proof that they break up families then I don't know what is.

Makes me so glad that I am no longer answerable to them.

Latest elders meeting during circuit visit

for those not aware:- during the circuit visit there is a meeting with elders &ministerial servants based on an outline.

the mss are dismissed then local matters (eg new elders, meeting attendance etc) are discussed.

recently there has also been a part of the outline just for elders - one year it was about stopping anyone dressing in a "gender blurring" way from going on the ministry.. the latest visit has a section of the outline for elders.

My father moved and HAD been privately reproved and the elders did nothing....I called the COBOE in his new congregation and he knew nothing about it and was upset, he had 4 young children. So Legal can still decide not to notify the new BOE. No matter what, only the elders can protect their own children, but no one else in that congregation will be notified officially.

The sisters in the congregation have no chance of knowing these things unless an elder chooses to warn them that there is a need to protect their children. Very worrying indeed.
