True Christianity - driven by organization?

i've been reading in search of christian freedom chapter 3 and i'm quite fascinated at ray's take on how the congregation was actually set up in the 1st century.

i never knew that a "governing body" only convened one time in jerusalem to discuss the circumcision issue, and was not mentioned prior or after this.

also paul went many years without heading to jerusalem for "instruction" but had the antioch congregation as his home-base.

I need to get this book and read it, I've heard it referenced too many times to pass up.

I found that point very interesting too gutted, the one that Paul was not in contact or reported to the older men in Jerusalem. When he did come back from his missionary tour he didn't go to Jerusalem but went to Antioch and was based there. He also disagreed with and called out Peter with his hypocritical actions.

I found that interesting as well. Two anointed christians disagreeing and yet... no one was called an apostate? Maybe the GB need to analyze Romans, Galatians and Ephesians a bit more and compare that to how they are running the org now.

NomadSoul, that is freaky! So she was checking out what she thought was a "worldly" guy, then found out you were an exdub, and got excited because what? She could get you reactivated and get married to you and wouldn't have to live with a worldly mate? Insane isn't it?! Glad you found all that out before it got too serious.

Are Dubs just getting lazy?

twice this month i've seen dubs out.

both times they just totally avoided me.

yesterday i went to subway and they were sitting on down outside of subway with their rags.

I don't know if I would call it lazy as I would call it misguided. They are told to do more constantly, every Saturday morning you're out in service, Sunday morning or some part of the day a meeting, so that leaves you with 2 half days to get your shopping done, house work chores done, family recreation is last on the list if you're a JW! Not to mention if you have to show up for some cleaning at the hall after service on Saturdays and if it's your FS groups turn to clean the bathrooms for the week!

As far as studying goes, most of my "studying" for the meetings consisted of skimming through the article/chapter read the questions and since they were paraphrasing the answer anyway, it was easy to target it in the paragraph and underline. I rarely ever looked up the scriptures.

Now, I don't read any of that shit for studying, I'll read it to look for the latest bullshit, but as far as personal study, I just read the bible, and I get so much more from doing just that.

Oh gutted, btw, I had to shave my goatee. Only because it was driving me nuts! After 2 weeks it was pretty scraggly and not filling in too well. So I shaved it, but not clean, just to get some more fill growing in, looks like it's working, so I'm trying it again, round 2.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I really need a victory in my life right now and even if this date doesn't go anywhere, it's still an awesome feeling to get out and start to mingle with people and start new friendships without conditions.

I promise to be a gentleman girls. But if she jumps me, I'm not responsible for what happens next! hehe

I think it is a possibility, anyone can sign up and become a member to this site so one can never really know who is behind the computer. You can figure out who is definitely sincere and not sneaky though.

I mean with the amount of warnings in the publications on internet use and apostate sites being mentioned, it's pretty obvious they know what's being said and the amount of people claiming to still be "in" and yet participating on sites like this. Makes them squirm in their seats when they read comments from "active" ones and they can't do a damn thing. At least they can't do anything without personal info.

Brings a smile to my face when I think about that.

i was brought up to reply to a question that i didn't understand, or know the answer to, in a modest, humble manner - true, sometimes it was embarrassing, but if i didn't know the answer, i'd (usually) admit it, and then start trying to find the answer.

this was time consuming, and required work - sometimes, a lot of research.

but, it has usually stood me in good stead.

I too like to dig in and research answers to questions that I don't know and I have an interest in. By doing the research and learning the answer on my own terms, using my own thought process I retain it and it makes sense.

As far as your comment on "As a mind-controlling cult they must reason that they can't possibly be seen not to be in control of those being duped." I honestly feel that although yes, they are a mind controlling cult, they really don't see themselves in that view. But I agree that they are thinking "control control control" "how do we control this situation?" "how do we say it so we can control them without rocking the boat too much so as to lose members?" "is this a disfellowshipping offense?"

Growing up, I always thought that the GB sat around their conference table pondering the bible and making sure that everything that was printed to the R&F was biblically supported. The older I got, I found that there was no way this was happening. Then I read CofC and wow, learning what really went/goes on in the GB sessions is just mind blowing. If you haven't read Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz yet, I highly suggest you do so, you won't regret it.

today, if he was gone 4 hours in the afternoon, he was probably involved with work at the KH. Maintenance, landscaping, interior cleaning, project work etc. Usually that is the time that the brothers schedule these things. Your husband, by showing up, is also "reaching out" for higher office, by availing himself to do these chores, he is showing the elders that he is "worthy."

A rough estimate of how many are still in for family or loved ones?

i'm sure it's impossible to know for sure but, in people's opinions, what would be a rough estimate of how many people are still in because of fear of losing loved ones?.

I'm still "in" atm. The only reason I haven't turned in my DA letter is for family. I have come to realize that all of my friends are conditional.

BANE, it's easy to sit behind a monitor screen, jump on the internet and become some type of persona. The only thing your persona conveys is insecurity, idiocy, and an asshole. You go and live your pipe dream "paradise earth" and so-called "spiritual paradise", with witnesses like you, who would want to live in a place like that in your company?
