The no beard or facial hair rule
by Soldier77 inokay, something that has always been a side point but still a rather ridiculous rule is that brothers cannot "serve" if they have a beard/goatee/anything more than just a moustache.
at least in the states, i've heard of some congregations in some countries allow this, but they are the exception?
your experience?.

Soldier we should do a goatee pact. I think I'll grown one after my district convention with my family in July. After that I don't plan on going to meetings or service much.
This plan I like.
Soldier77 - moustaches are awful IMHO but goatees are somehow more balanced and there isn't that "I'm underlining my nose because my nose is so effn awesome and I really want you to notice it" effect.
Go for it. You have my vote!
ROFL! Yeah... goatee's just have something cool about it... I guess being a witness for so long it's one of those rebel things I just HAVE to do just to be spiteful.
I think it's on gutted, let's do eeet!

Happy, Well-Adjusted JW. However... Pet Peeve. Please Sound Off Yours.
by Doubtfully Yours inwhy the heck does the society have to publish more of the same stuff every single farging assembly???!!!.
as if we don't already have tons of literature already!!!
boring to keep reading the same stuff over and over and over again!!!.

Well, they cut down the articles per month, maybe in a year or two it'll be every other month, then a quarterly, then semi-annually...
Pet peeve would be turning in field service time. What gives them the right to gauge my spirituality by the amount of hours I put in going door to door handing out WBTS literature? Which would be a big phat "0" for the last 6 months, even though I've put down false numbers just so they lay off my back a bit.

Would God's True Prophet's forget his name?
by wannabe inwould god's true people forget his name?.
of course it is understandable, that today we would find worldly educators, and religious leaders and scholars bickering over the use of the divine name, jehovah; under the circumstances, one would naturally expect that to be the case.
as a matter of fact, it couldn't be any other way, due to the spiritually blind condition of this world, and just whom it is that reigns as god over this world.

If you are using WBTS literature and reasoning to base your "scholarly understanding" then I feel you have once again missed the point of independant research and thinking. If I wanted to read an apologists point of view of the WBTS I would go to the meeting and pick up the latest magazines.

Have your views on gays changed over the years?
by laverite insome questions....feel free to answer any or all of these.
have your views of gay people changed over the years?
do you have or have you ever had gay friends?
-
Soldier77
I never had any ill feelings towards gays. Always thought as leavingwt that it was their business and as long as they weren't trying to impose on me I won't impose on them. I have one gay friend for several years, even as an active so called hardcore JW, the guy never judged me as a JW so I reciprocated and never judged him as a gay.
We all have rights, who am I to judge anyone.

lol laverite
I honestly hate moustaches and never have had one, but I hate shaving and want a goatee! I think I should just do it, walk in the KH and everyones jaw will just drop.

neverendingjourney - thanks for that insight. I haven't reached that part of CofC yet (truth be told I put it done a couple weeks ago and got caught up in a side project).
Oh and another thing that chaps my ass: brothers wearing suits and sisters can't wear dress slacks. Hey man, I want to wear khakis and a polo shirt if I want damn it! Especially in 90+ degree weather! Hell, going to DC's mid summer in Phoenix was HORRID! I always envied the sisters, they at least could wear less clothes than us bros. I think they should allow sisters to wear business suits w/ pants. Anyone watch Fringe? Olivia Dunham in a pant suit is pretty hot.
Oh hell, what do I care, I won't be going at all in a short while.

Meeting experience
by gutted inthis weeks service meeting was typical.. "where were you?
" "i'm concerned about you".
then the typical song and dance of the parts/talks, all recycled notions of doing better in the service.
-
Soldier77
Soldier I have a #3 talk coming up next month as well. I think I will actually cancel it and also my enrollment in the school.
I've been thinking of doing that as well. Total waste of time.

Oh, I got the same treatment this past Sunday.
"We've missed you!" Oh really, what? You're phone don't work to call?
"Are you okay?" Yup, never better. "Well we haven't seen you a lot lately" Thank you for your concern, but if you wanted to see me all you have to do is give me a call.
"Hey, you want to go out in service this afternoon with me?" No thanks, I have plans. "Oh okay, I just thought since I haven't seen you out in a while I would see if you would like to keep me company." Am I under arrest or something? "Huh?" Well, you seem to be my appointed parole officer. "Oh that's not what I meant." Well, that's how it sounds. See ya.
I also have been assigned a 3rd student talk for next week. I'm not doing it, not going and not calling in to say I'm not doing it. Fuck 'em.
