  and it is a clear night here on the east coast of the usa.. so i took a few shots of the moon.

  here is one that i liked.... .

  anyone else a shutter bug?.

  Yesss, a friend of mine shoots Nikon and I've played with it a bit. I love the fact that you don't have to drill down through menus so much. The Canon Rebels were pretty limited with control/function accessibility. The 5DmkII is incredible in almost every way but still doesn't have as many hardware controls as the typical Nikon DSLR. But I LOVE having the freedom to shoot at ISO6400+ with acceptable noise that I can clean up later. (It's capable of reaching an equivalent of 25,600 but I'll never use it.)

  Nikon (vs Canon) has a good handle on AF and minimal noise, don't they?

  Yeah, I understand the dilemma, Leo. If I can't shoot RAW, I drop the overexposure bias, too. Not much can be done to recover clipped values in JPEGs. As for an impatient partner, that's much more difficult to upgrade. :-D

  For those of you who haven't stated so, are you shooting Canon, Nikon, or other? I like both Nikon and Canon but just happened to buy into the Canon camp on a whim. Now I'm vested in Canon glass and accessories but not a fan-boy. There are definitely some advantages out there for Nikon users.

  Adobe Lightroom FTW!

  Shooting RAW changes my exposure strategy, primarily in that I like to 'expose to the right.' I typically rely on the camera's meter but then I like to chimp and verify on the histogram that I'm pushing highlight values almost to the point of clipping. Then when processing the RAW files, I find that pulling highlights back (if there's not a total loss of RGB values in those parts) preserves the image better than pushing shadows up, which tends to introduce noise in dark areas. But that's just me, and not 100% of the time.

  I still need a grad ND filter, a good set of NDs and a circular polarizer for landscape shots. Until then, gotta rely on bracketed exposures or Lightroom's grad filter adjustment tool and local adjustment brush. Mmm-mm, deeelish!

  Hey, whereami! Did you find that your voice memo was unplayable?? I can help you salvage it. Long voice memo corruption is a fairly common issue with iPhones.

  CJ: At least talk in person with someone in the comittee before the dead line. That way you ensure they received the letter.

  Good point, CJ. I'll probably tell them the day before the deadline that they should expect the letters via certified mail, having already sent them. (We have to write a letter for each of us, too.)

  Palm: Also, the rumpus room crowd feels bad we got your other thread yanked.

  What? Get outta here! No need to apologize, Palm, that was awesome! Plus it was DarkSide's thread. I expect he'll call Simon out for that now.
