man im so drained right now and tired i cant say a whole lot.. but you know, i was thinking about going back to them and just to see a bit more about it all.. i dont know to be very honest with you if its thr right thing to do or not on a personal level.. .

guys, i have a chance to help an old friend but i'm pressed for time.

i'll be googling while i'm waitin for responses but i thought others might have some great sources that are harder to find.. first, can anyone recommend a list or website that lists all the infamous years that russell and other leaders expected to have special significance?

it's been too long since i've read up on all of that but i'm thinking about the years like 1799, 1874, 1881, 1910, 1914, etc.... but i need it to be concise, like a table, and i must be able to list references to scans at least.

And the quotes must be solid. The more adamant they were, the better. I'm not bringing up 1975 yet.

For any of you familiar with my story, this guy is one of my old buddies who was present last year when another dub friend asked what my doubts were and I refused to discuss them, but then was DF'd in October for apostasy anyway for simply HAVING different thoughts. So this buddy knows what happened to my wife and I and I'm hoping our going through the JC's DFing process helped him see the injustice. (That was the whole point of not disassociating in the first place. I wanted others to be aware that action was taken against us for "thoughtcrime".)

Anyway, I emailed him out of the blue the other day - just a quick joking jab email that I think he'd make a good non-theist - and he actually replied!

Within his email, he said that he'd read a newspaper article recently that stated China would be the new superpower by 2013/2014. That made him think about the statue in Daniel and the fact that "were no Chinese flip-flops on that bitch." He then said that if China did take that role and the WTBTS came up with "new light" (and he used the quotation marks!), I could expect company shortly thereafter.

i remember one time when i was about 17 years old, i wanted to arrange a costume party for the young brothers in the congo around my age.

i suggested it to one of my friends and was told that the elders had advised against it because it could be construed as pagan and masks have their roots in demonism.

of course, i was never shown any biblical proof of this but just that response took the wind out of my sails and i decided to just not go through with it.

A year or so ago, my mom told me that an elder stated (in a talk) that it would be inappropriate for a husband and wife to embrace or hold hands during prayers at the meetings/assemblies. This really bothered her and was one of only two negative(ish) things that I ever remember my mom saying about the Organization.

Also, when I saw the thread title, I immediately thought back to the Circuit Assembly where it was stated that "decade theme parties" were inappropriate for Christians. Some BS about 'glamorizing Satan's world as it existed in that era.'

Even as a devout, unquestioning, young JW, I was pissed. I'd thrown a 70's party not long before that talk, which was one of the best parties I had ever been to, and I kid you not, I had attended upwards of three parties by that point in my life.

Anyways, we're gonna celebrate the hell outta Halloween this year. Can't wait.
