hi friends,.
it's been a long time.
i check in about every five years.. .
NO PREPARATION AT ALL is being done.
I wouldn't say none. Preparations A through G were a complete failure. But now, ladies and gentlemen, we finally have a working preparation...
waiting on a couple important phone calls, so figured may as well make some use of this time.
i'm going to try and catalogue every error in this book, hopefully can be done before the end of the day.
i'm sure a lot of folks have already disected this and nothing new to see.
You might want to participate in Psilocybin (magic shrooms) studies at Johns Hopkins University if you want to really get into John's mind.

perhaps, if you are a theist, you might not want to read this.
if you are nevertheless curious about how an atheist thinks, then please read on.. i don't think there are any active members of this board who have been atheists all their lives (are there?).
i think virtually all of us transitioned into non-belief from a religious beginning.
Gnite, Nickolas, and the rest of the fair citizens of JWN. I agree - helluva thread. Great comments from all.
i've just read at a spanish forum for ex-jw that the wt has cooked a new light article series about social celebrations, including birthdays and aniversaries.
according to a member of this forum 'in short' the wt will let witnesses to decide by 'their bible trained conscience' either they celebrate birthdays or not.
is this rumor based in some real facts or it's just bullshit?.
Dayum... 6 posts since 2003?
I think I'll reserve belief until I see something written in a WT pub.
BUT if the policy ever changes, I think Sizemik gets the prize for matching their weaselly method of announcing it.
Where's SD-7? He could author the QfR that says, in effect, "There may have been some who ran ahead and boldly asserted that it would be inappropriate for Christians..."

Nick: Yes, it is possible (downright probable) that some extremely selfish individuals will figure out the exclusion dynamic and merely pretend to be altruistic, thereby providing their genes the opportunity to prevail within the gene pool of the group. It is also probable that the group will evolve the means to detect such deceptions and thereby minimise the effects of it.
SBC: [searches Amazon frantically for "Exclusion Dynamic for Dummies" and "Deceiving those who have evolved the means to detect such deceptions and thereby minimise the effects of it"]
Nick: I'm merely extrapolating from what I have read so far in Dawkins' treatise, SBC.
And t'was a beautiful extrapolation, Sir Nick! I was just implying that I'm an 'extremely selfish individual trying to figure out the exclusion dynamic...' aw, never mind. It was supposed to be a level of self-deprecation, then irony, then... phbbbbt - it was a big dud.

i feel better now.. but just in case you are wondering why i think it sucked, here you go:.
- it was clearly an "insider's only" convention.
why invite the public if you are just going to engage in crazy talk that only jws can decipher?.
Fine highlights reel, Brother Massey! Your theme carried well through the entire discussion. Several times I almost felt as if I was actually there, with my eyes rolling back in my head.. even a little drool in the corner of my mouth. The next to last paragraph was no less than brilliant and I would like to see a 2011 Yearbook with your accurate summary in there as opposed to the standard BS.

Shack: Get into a book, stall out for whatever reason, start in on another book...then you have 3 books stalled about 3rd way in.
Gah! That's me! And I can't seem to fix it! I think too much JWN has cost me patience for anything longer than three paragraphs.
To be fair, I think skimming and reading short snippets online in general has hindered my ability finish a worthy book. Kinda like if you lived on a steady diet of wedding reception hors d'oeuvres... (I don't know where to go with that illustration but it felt good at the moment.)
Oops, sorry for the tangent....
Now back to Nick.

Shack, I haven't read any of Harris' books yet but I have my eye on The Moral Landscape. Coincidentally, I read through his interview on the Amazon page earlier this week and I like what he had to say so I'm sure I'll eventually buy his book and read the first three chapters before skipping to the last page to see what happens.

I am a consious creature ( whatever that means) and it will increase my well-being to have sex with Adriana Lime, whether she wants to or not.
Perhaps, but you've hopefully evolved with the farsightedness beyond that of a caveman... so you realize that your well-being(s) would be hanging on your wife's coat rack if you fulfilled your shortsighted desire with Adriana Lima. You recognize the greater well-being of maintaining a good relationship with your wife and not having to register as a sex offender, right? And then comes sympathy, in that you can visualize how it would affect the other parties involved.
Of course, this is all conjecture so... salt and pepper the hell out of it.
