IndependentThinker, it sounds to me like you're gonna do great, especially if you already know you're going to college.

So you haven't talked to your siblings about this yet? Are you close with any of them? How do your parents treat them, considering they're out?

couldn't understand how jehovah could kill everyone who's not jw, when theres so many other religions who think the same about themselves.

Yeah, that was a big nail in the coffin for me, too. If you get a chance, go check out an ex-Mormon forum sometime. The similarities are amazing.

IndependentThinker, welcome to the JWN forum.

That elder pegged you, didn't he? You are an independent thinker... but while that's bad news for them, that's good news for you. Anyone who doesn't want you to think for yourself is not your friend. Just the fact that his words raised a red flag and made you think of an Orwellian world - that's a great sign.

So a world view you once thought was rock-solid is now crumbling fast, isn't it? Stay positive. You seem mature enough to figure out what makes sense to you from a "faith" standpoint and young enough that you don't have to rebuild a new life completely. It's a harsh wake-up call but for the unlucky person who was born-in (like you and me), 18 is NOT the worst time to wake up. Try becoming aware of these facts after you're married to devout JW and you're raising JW kids.

You'll get through this, but like so many things, it will probably get worse before it gets better.

A few questions, hopefully not too personal: You have a girlfriend on the outside - can you talk to her about it? How deep are your parents in the organization? Are you planning to attend college?

Anyone here use a tablet computer

just curious here who uses the new tablet computers, whether they be android based or ipad ios from apple.

does anyone here use a phone to post and what is your experience with that?.

i'm curious as to how much more time there will be before these devices are the main computers for people.

You're just terribly uninformed as quite frankly are many of the people here on JWN when it comes to the things that pertain to God's organization and the more important spiritual matters. "Serious work ... requires a PC or a laptop"?

Eggnog(@moshe): I think there may be hope for you, provided you endeavor to be a bit more lowly in mind than you project, and perhaps exercise a bit of humility than this statement of yours suggests is in you, since as arrogant as you may believe this to be, if I'm not older than you, sir, I'm extremely more intelligent than you are with respect to technology, and you would do well to just simply be resolved to never again say what you said to me here to anyone. Please believe me when I say that you could learn a lot from me if you would only arrest in you the urge to speak when you really should listen.

Eggnog, I use an iPad as a great utility for my side business, including Dropbox for syncing/accessing docs, and apps for drawing up contracts/releases, getting them signed, emailing the PDF to a customer. Of course there are the other tools at my disposal like remote desktop, Square app for accepting credit cards, an app for scanning biz cards to contacts, etc... Anyway, it's a fantastic tool but I use it mostly to handle my own secretarial duties... you know, like the tasks you describe in your dissertation above?

Unfortunately, I can't - and wouldn't care to - use the iPad for my "heavy lifting" at this point, since that requires the use of full-featured versions of Autodesk & Adobe CS5 Master Suite products, which call for a PC or notebook of some sort. So maybe that's what Moshe had in mind instead of secretarial stuff when he said "serious work".

What I'm suggesting is that you take a bit of your own medicine: Try not to be an arrogant prick just because someone suggests that "serious work" or "heavy lifting" still calls for a PC or laptop. Their idea of serious work and your idea of serious work may not be the same.

Also, you might consider yourself a "power user" but, for the love of humanity, don't think you're a technological god just because some JWN members are less technologically inclined. That's pure douchebaggery.

Also, you still haven't answered my question as to why you edited your 9th post to remove the "dirty" adjective where you say your wife called you an apostate. That is very BrotherDan-like of you.

That's true! I accidentally swapped the two handles when comparing that last set of quotes. I apologize for the switch and have noted the error on my thread but the similarities are still exactly the same:

BrotherDan: I met my wife and moved to AZ. She is a JW, but not a very strong one in the usual standards. She believes it with all of her heart and will listen to NOTHING critical of it. We had 2 kids [sons] and I held on for as long as I could. I always knew something wasn't quite right with this organization. I hated calling ALL other people "worldly" and "goats" and speaking as if we were so much better than everyone else. ....About a year and a half ago I stumbled on Crises of Conscience. It rocked my entire world.

ChristAlone: I eventually got married, shoved the doubts down and tried to be a "good" JW. Just as my wife was pregnant with my 2nd son I came across Crises of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom.

Dan Christ, why did you originally write IN THIS THREAD that your wife began calling you a "dirty apostate" but then change it to just "apostate"? (Google has a great memory.) BroDan used to say his wife would harshly refer to him as a dirty or filthy apostate, too.

My, the coincidences are astounding.
