Are Atheists open minded? are you?
by cyberjesus insome people accuse atheists of not being open minded for not believing in the existence of a creator.
but is not believing a sign of close mindedness?
can you believe in god and be open minded?.

This statement IMHO tells you and all of us (nearly all more likely ) that there are whisperings built into in our DNA code
that say ... "I am God your creator".. you can suppress these whisperings but never totally leave them behind !!
But considering the topic, open-mindedness, and the video.... I've noticed many people arrive at conclusions for which there is no evidence and, after having bought their view on faith, never give thought to researching other plausible explanations. Is that not by definition closed-mindedness?
Are there any other plasuible explanations for man's seemingly inherent need to worship? If a person hasn't investigated any of these explanations but instead just buys into the idea that god wrote that into our DNA, is he/she being open-minded?
Dawkins and others offer some very interesting discussion on that topic, BTW.

Seriously, these were actual lines from a conversation I recently had with a family member:
Me: “I’m simply trying to reason with you.”
JW: “Well you can’t reason with me. I’m UNreasonable.”We both had a good chuckle over it.

JW: “Good morning! We’d like let you know that your beliefs are wrong and that ours are right. How do you feel about the crime today?”
HH: “The same way I feel about it every day. Hey, how do you know my beliefs are wrong if you don’t even know what I believe?”
JW: “Because our beliefs are based strictly on the Bible. Now how 'bout that crime?”
HH: “Wait, how do you know mine aren’t?”
JW: “Because if they were, you’d be one of us.”
HH: “How do you know you wouldn’t be one of me?”
JW: “Look, sir, we’re not here to argue.”
HH: “Really? You came, uninvited, to my house to tell me that you’re right and I’m wrong.”
JW: “We’re out looking for those who are HUMBLE and HONEST.”
HH: “Why, because you can’t find any in your own religion? What happened, they all leave?”
JW: “I can see you're feeling defensive.”
HH: “I’m simply trying to reason with you.”
JW: “Well you can’t reason with me. I’m UNreasonable.”
HH: “Hmm. Good point.” -

Haha, yeah, the new announcement is so weak. Here's what I wanted to hear:
"Timothy and Lauren have been judged by a committee of elders. We find the accused... GUILTY of having thoughts that are not endorsed by the Watchower Bible & Tract Society. We hereby sentence your believing friends and family to life in Watchtower prison." [gavel hits]

Doing great, thank you for asking, Sam. We listened in to the announcement and it had all the fanfare of a time/temperature recording: "Timothy and Lauren P. are no longer Jehovah's Witnesses." Robotic in both tone and rhythm.
And then meeting continued, to our dismay. (jokes)
Nah, I think we've faced a lot of the emotion already and I'm sure we'll have emotional moments in the next few months but we were already pretty withdrawn from the local cong. Had we been attending the last 6 months, it probably would've been much more difficult. Plus my oldest bro, not a JW and never baptized, along with my best bud (a successful fader), came by and shared a cigar and a drink.
BTW, brotherDan, we did, in fact, toast to you with a nice Johnny Walker Black Label scotch and some Quorum stogies. I'm still not a big fan of cigars but I am a fan of what is symbolized by burning one down. You're my poster child for the WT dividing families.
Wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Are you open minded about the possibility accepting things on faith ?
“The great trouble with religion — any religion — is that a religionist, having accepted certain propositions by faith, cannot thereafter judge those propositions by evidence. One may bask at the warm fire of faith or choose to live in the bleak uncertainty of reason — but one cannot have both.” –Robert Heinlein

BTW, I just dropped the bomb on Facebook, posting a Farewell Letter on my Notes page. Time to watch my friend count dwindle!
I like the idea of making the announcement before the elders do it. The less control we surrender to them, the better.
