I like brotherdan's comments. I also have thought about this stuff and I really dont think its an irreconcilable problem. The problem of evil definitely poses a challenge to the Christain faith period. I would suggest looking up William Craig and Ravi Zacharias. They have some really good stuff on this including alot of other helps for ones faith and hopefully your daughters. They address alot of what people on this board are saying, hope it helps....

My daughter asked me this today.
by thenoblelodge inshe asked me why god didn't step in to stop tragedies.
for example, recently twin baby girls were attacked in their cots while their parents were down stairs.
both suffered life changing injuries.. my daughter knows a couple who have waited years for a baby and eventually had i.v.f.

Do you believe the Bible?
by Cagefighter ini don't want to high jack african gb's thread but something got me thinking.... moses, abraham were inbred and hearing god's voice... paul never met jesus yet he is the only apostle coming down like a hammer of gays and has this "close bond" with timothy.
then there is the issue of "horus" the egyptian god and is this where the story of jesus comes from.
i have searched the internet for information on horus and have not had much luck finding anything authorative either way.. my question is do you or don't you believe in the bible and why or why not?

Next, let’s look at Jeremiah 29:10, as it is presented in several translations:
‘This is what the LORD says: ‘When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place.’ - NIV
‘For thus says the LORD, ‘When seventy years have been completed for Babylon, I will visit you and fulfill My good word to you, to bring you back to this place.’ - NASB
‘For thus says the Lord, When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you and keep My good promise to you, causing you to return to this place.’ - AMP
‘After Babylonia has been the strongest nation for seventy years, I will be kind and bring you back to Jerusalem, just as I have promised.’ - CEV
The King James and other bibles have confused matters slightly by their incorrect use of the phrase ‘at Babylon’ rather than ‘for Babylon’, but that aside, a look at the context in Jeremiah 29:4-11 shows these words to be part of a letter sent from Jeremiah to those who were taken captive from Jerusalem in the second (of three) deportations. This second deportation happened eleven years before Jerusalem’s final destruction. Jeremiah is telling the captives they should settle themselves and not expect a quick return as some false prophets had predicted, for only after seventy years had been accomplished ‘for Babylon’ would they return. This only makes sense if the seventy years had already begun.
If the seventy years were to begin with the destruction of Jerusalem some ten years after Jeremiah’s words were written, it would mean the people Jeremiah was writing to would have to wait even longer than seventy years. Plus to do so would mean God had already decided that Jerusalem would be destroyed. And if this were this case, the later warnings recorded at Jeremiah 38:17, 18 would have no meaning. It reads:
‘Jeremiah now said to Zedekiah: ‘This is what Jehovah, the God of armies, the God of Israel, has said, ‘If you will without fail go out to the princes of the king of Babylon, your soul will also certainly keep living and this city itself will not be burned with fire , and you yourself and your household will certainly keep living. But if you will not go out to the princes of the king of Babylon, this city must also be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they will actually burn it with fire, and you yourself will not escape out of their hand.’
If God had already decided to burn the city ten years before he did it, such a warning would have been futile. However if we understand the seventy years to be years of servitude, then the warning to Zedekiah is clear, serve Babylon and the city and its inhabitants will be spared, rebel against God’s appointed agent, Nebuchadnezzar, and be destroyed.

Worldly Shunning
by alice.in.wonderland ini hear quite a bit of criticism about jehovah's witnesses enforcing 1 corinthians 5:9-13. while jehovah's witnesses have a formal system of maintaining the organization's core values; egocentric, self-worshiping secularists have an informal system of rejecting those of whom they have nothing in common with.
http://www.objectivistcenter.org/cth-32-390-religion.aspx.
most major religions have believed in the existence of a supernatural realm, a realm beyond the natural world of physical objects and bodies governed by causal laws, the world we perceive with our senses and can study by rational methods.

I have to agree, you lose alot of credibility coming on a site that you are totally not supposed to and defending things you clearly dont believe in yourself. The discrepancy is between what you are saying and what the WTBTS says. The organization that you support has made it more than clear that you are supposed to stay completely and far away from places like these. I heard a talk that said anyone who does not have a complete heart towards Jehovah is bad association that is to be avoided, in or out of the truth. Is your heart complete towards him? It would seem not. But then again, its a similar pattern to what I have observed in a lot of witnesses. I was surprised to learn once that alot of my witness associates basically had thanksgiving dinner without calling it "Thanksgiving". It was a big joke and not a real big deal because everyone is still making their hours and stuff. What I dont like is the witness mentality that you can somehow earn God's favor and get on his good side by doing all these works with that goal in mind. I guess you justify your association here by defending the truth here, either way, if your under the WTBTS, you arent supposed to be here, you cant argue with that. And as for the GB, I would say that they're worse than a mommy....

You may have good intentions, but you might want to be a little more sensitive. Reality checks are a good thing............to people who can handle them, IDK, I just know how bad this stuff can get so I try to be careful with what I say because I dont know if this kid is majorly depressed or just feeling a little down. If its the latter, a comment like that is far from helpful, thats just my two cents....
