  Your views and ideas on forum areas and organization?

  this may come as a shock to some people, but the current forum structure was kind of thrown together without much real thought and then evolved a bit over time.

  there are a few things that particularly grate on me and areas where i don't think the subjects work particularly well.

  'friends' is a bit vague and becomes a dumping ground, news & world events vs politics & current affairs is hard to decide sometimes, child abuse is a scandal but isn't contained withing 'scandals & coverups' etc.... with a new forum platform imminent, it's a good time to solicit ideas to improve things.

  Anyone else an Ex Bethel "volunteer"

  i was wondering if there were any other ex-bethelites on here.

  i personally regularly went for temporary work at brooklyn then was assigned to the farm for a year and a half.

  it was... one of the most bizaare experiences of my life.. so i wrote it all down (finally, after some 15 years) so i won't bore anyone on here with the details of the story - because bethel doesn't show up until chapter 15... and for you straight folks, it gets a bit gay in two places... but nothing gross.

  I'm still blown away by your book, Backseat. I'm preparing to sit down with a cup of tea to reread it. I wish it were available as a print on demand book from amazon, as I'd love to have it in my library.

  Fakesmile - I think you are right. People who may be sporadic posters may have the most interesting lives! You are right that I didn't want to be divisive, but the thread probably wasn't a good idea anyway. :(

  LongHairGal - my name would never come up in one of these threads. However, I don't care. I didn't want to try to start a popularity thing. When I see threads that seem like popularity threads, I know I'm not there and it just doens't bother me. I am what I am. I can be on the fringe of JWN. It's ok. :-D But I still think it's fun to ponder who I would like to have dinner with. It's just a little daydreamin' online. :-D I probably shouldn't have started the thread.

  This is why I love you. I totally agree with you. Believe me when I say, I'd be delighted to have dinner with you too. I'd love one of those Oprah Winfrey like dinners where a real mix of people could be at the table having some amazing discussions!!!

  Shirley, I didn't think that at all. I am in the same boat as you. My upbringing was excruciating. I was never popular, bullied beyond imagination, and the whole JW thing was such a cruel twist of fate. Things got better, for sure. I am thankful for everyone on here.

  My pick of Billy simply has to do with him overcoming this background and his amazing university career. But like I said in my OP there are soooo many. Anyone who overcomes incredible odds wins my heart and mind. Actually this applies to any and all of our JWN peeps, except for those who might be criminally insane (and, to be honest, I have my suspicions of a couple of them). So I guess there are those who I wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.

  They don't know what the eff they are teaching anymore, it has gotten so mumbled and jumbled as they try to make sense of their false prophecies. The 1914 generation is long gone. They had to keep expanding the definition of generation. Finally, no further "expansion" was possible so time to redefine into multiple overlapping generations. The mental acrobatics to follow this $h*t is dizzying.

  I just wanted some light hearted fun. I was one of those left out of school and social activities completely while growing up. I also have zero percent chance of ever being selected for a popularity thread on JWN. I'm pretty lucky to get any replies when I post even. :)
