Awesome pic!! What a cool gathering. If Randy was there, I'm guessing this was in So. Cal?

How do the Dubbies Handle No Soliciting Signs Now?
by laverite ini get too many callers in my neighborhood, and i need to invest in a no soliciting sign for the front door.
i do not appreciate uninvited callers, unless they are there to tell me there's an immediate need to evacuate.
i absolutely won't buy anything at the door.

Oh and let's not forget the importance of candy. I figure I can always buy girl scout cookies outside of shops when they do their selling. That's where we always get them anyway. I'm developing a craving for something sweet now... yet have nothing sweet to eat in the house. Damn it!

Wow - some good information here from you guys. Thank you so much for the info. I love some of the pics, too! I wonder if a no tresspassing sign might make me look like a nutter? LOL. Seriously, I will have to look at what signs are available online and in stores to see if there's something that will cover the witnesses, too. The thing is that they are coming by all the time. They constantly work this neighborhood. I've let them know I am on to them and that I know the truth behind what they are peddling.
Maybe I just need to ask to be put on their DNC list. But even then, they check in with you to make sure you still want to be on that list. My neighborhood gets constant attention (yet so much of the the town is hardly worked by them). You'd think they would make an effort to recruit outside of my street.

Your views and ideas on forum areas and organization?
by Simon inthis may come as a shock to some people, but the current forum structure was kind of thrown together without much real thought and then evolved a bit over time.
there are a few things that particularly grate on me and areas where i don't think the subjects work particularly well.
'friends' is a bit vague and becomes a dumping ground, news & world events vs politics & current affairs is hard to decide sometimes, child abuse is a scandal but isn't contained withing 'scandals & coverups' etc.... with a new forum platform imminent, it's a good time to solicit ideas to improve things.

I like the idea of a lounge.
As far as the design, making it friendly for people with vision issues (even just due to age -- for peeps over 40), keeping it relatively simple to use and lots of nice high contrast. High contrast for people with vision problems can be helpful. I had eye surgery about 10 years ago, and have had some contrast issues since, and even though still quite young had to wear reading glasses. High contrast sites help me a lot without struggling.
You are probably totally on top of that though. This current site is simple enough with high contrast. No complaints here.

Anyone else an Ex Bethel "volunteer"
by BackseatDevil ini was wondering if there were any other ex-bethelites on here.
i personally regularly went for temporary work at brooklyn then was assigned to the farm for a year and a half.
it was... one of the most bizaare experiences of my life.. so i wrote it all down (finally, after some 15 years) so i won't bore anyone on here with the details of the story - because bethel doesn't show up until chapter 15... and for you straight folks, it gets a bit gay in two places... but nothing gross.

Backseat,
You can self-publish the book. You won't make much, if anything. But you could always get it out there for people to have greater access to. Maybe offer it for a couple of bucks electronically? And give people a choice of a printed version (print on demand).
You could pay a professional to copy edit the book -- it would cost quite a bit but may be worth it (to find the small errors, like you said). Or have a couple of friends go through it with a fine tooth comb. It won't be error free, but that's ok. :)
I'd love a copy with a nice cover to keep in my library. This book is worth it.

Who from JWN would you most like to have dinner with?
by laverite inif you could pick anyone from jwn to meet in real life to meet and have dinner with, who would that be?
let's exclude all those who you are already friends with, who you know and love from jwn in real life.
so or me, that excludes my friend ann and also curious butterfly.

I am very thankful that people are taking this thread in the spirit in which it was intended. I certainly mean no hurt feelings toward anyone. Sending lots of love out to everyone. I also agree with those who say that everyone on here has an interesting story, and I'd love to meet everyone. Hey, but if I could only pick one, it would have to be Billy.

I think I need to put up a no soliciting sign. What do you think? Will it keep the dubbies away? How do they deal with these signs now? In my prior territory, we'd ignore them, as we would just tell ourselves that we weren't selling anything. We were engaged in life-saving work. Big difference!
I have discovered that payback is a *&^%. I know I deserve this due to my time spent waking people up early in the mornings on their only day off. On the other hand, I feel that I have paid the price for enough years now and deserve a little peace.

Finally, for 'Adult and Heated Debate', how about just 'Debate' or even another word? Maybe someone has a good idea about this. For 'adult', this has always been confusing for me. Can we talk about sex and other real adult topics there? Is it really adult and/or what are the rules for that area? Can people use "language" there? I wonder if perhaps an area for talking about sex and even using "langauge" that is restricted might fulfill a certain function? Or, it could just open a can of worms that would be unwanted. I don't have solutions, just asking some questions.

Maybe instead of family and parenting under social, as this is such a big area - there could be something under JWs for this? Or an entire category unto itself? Just thinking about how this is such huge topic on here. Maybe it could be made more prominent somehow?
