No one stays with a religion unless they think it's The Truth . They always think God agrees with whatever they happen to believe in and no one predicts that the end of the world will come in someone else's lifetime....it's always gonna' come in thier lifetime....and it's gonna happen any day now. It's what keeps them going most of the time.

What makes JW's think all is "Truth" now ?
by Phizzy inc.t russell was, they admit 90% wrong.. ditto for rutherford.. ditto for a lot in the intervening years, wrong and wrong again, so the need for "new light".. what makes them think that the 2012 version is any more right than the previous tripe ?.
how can they know it won't all be dross tomorrow ?.
"good morning i have come to bring you the truth from god's word that may not be the truth at all when the next wt comes out" would be a more honest presentation..

I have to say I kinda thought the same thing as Twani did after reading Mrs. Jones comment. It came across as mocking him/her for not being as internet savvy as some on here are.
In Mrs. Jones defense,(not that she needs my help) I know that a missing comma or misplaced word can change the whole tone of a comment. I have to watch myself on here because I've unintentionally done the same thing. Only realizing it when I went back and re read a post I made and saw that it came across much differently than I had meant it to.
Let us know how your return to the Hall went. Some of us here, I'd say have entertained that idea as well from time to time. If I were to move to another region, I might go back to see if my experience would be different somewhere else. Deep down I know that "there's no going home" It would never be the same now that I know what I know.

If those (very sweet and cute) Sisters hadn't been out in field service that day, who knows what might have happened.
I loved how that one Sister said about the old woman. " She's a very nice lady....I didn't know her, but she is somebody's Mother...somebody's Grandmother....somebody's friend"
She is the kind of person I miss knowing.

Why did you become one of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Celestial inany other reason than the arbitrary explanation that you were brainwashed or seduced by a millenarianist doomsday cult?.

Mom and Dad brought us to this country (U.S.) so we would have better opportunities for education and jobs. They had no friends of family here when they arrived. Mom was called on at the door by some friendly ladies who offered to visit her every week and study the Bible. Dad threw a fit....didn't want anytning to do with it. The ladies convinced her that Satan was working through him and also convinced her that he could be won without a word. SLAM went the door on all our supposed opportunities! No Christimas, No Birthdays, No School dances, No Sports, No College.......meetings meetings meetings.....Saturday Field Service, Bible Literature coming out our ears, childhood was spoiled with fears of God destroying our unbelieving father and school friends and global destruction....sitting for days on end listening to Bible Lectures filled with now obsolete information that has been replaced with new light and they reminded us about how bad everyone else in the world is and how happy we are.
Why do you ask?

If THIS MAN were a Jehovah's Witness 2 million babies would be dead
by Terry injames harrison has magical blood.. specifically, his blood contains an extremely rare enzyme that can be used to treat babies dying of rhesus disease.
if you've never heard of that disease and figure it's not a big deal, well, wait for the numbers.. harrison, being a generous type, has donated his rare, life-saving blood roughly 1,000 times over 56 years.
this has saved the lives of--seriously, you're not going to believe this--over two million babies around the world.. .

Donating his rare blood to save babies is fine so long as he doesn't start eating meat sacraficed to idols.

I can only imagine what every JW that knows her will think when they hear her on the radio!! LOL...
Yes, I thought the same thing as I read your story. It would be nice to truly say "who cares what they think" But realistically, we often do care what those that we were once close to, think of us and especially so when it comes to how our kids are viewed. Every parent is over the moon when their child does well but even more so when all those near to them predicted otherwise and even tried to pass along the same rut inducing poison that they fell for themselves . It reminds me of when a person wants to get away from a dead end job or a small town but others who are too afraid to leave themselves, try their best to keep the person stuck right along side them.
Witnesses only discuss the ones who did poorly after leaving. It makes them feel better. They are silent about the majority who leave and do OK or better than OK. Their words of dire warnings and supposed concern are mearly used to cover up their real hope. The hope that those who dare to leave will fall flat on thier faces. It's sad really, but it's hard to pity them isn't it?
Your JW family and friends seriously punished/are punishing you for breaking the old mental chains that hold them down and that once held you down. It is only natural for you to be just that "proud" that you'd want "the folks back home" so to speak, to know that y'all are doing more than just fine.

So I made a couple of comments on my older brother's FB and I think I might have gone too far.
A little background. My Brother is a pretty popular guy... I am about a year younger than him and although we currently live on opposite coasts of the US., I know most of his JW friends. He has about 600 FB friends and is on his page daily making announcements on there as if he's Ashton Kutcher talking to his fans....or something. He also makes all these "encouraging" JW comments like " Great Assembly progam today guys...just what we needed !" and then all his friends "like" his comment or make simmilar comments of their own such as ."What a banquet Jehovah provided for us to feast on"
He has told me that he doesn't think JW's are the only truth and he doesn't believe the GB is correct on a lot of matters, yet he has no problem acting as if he's a full fledged believer. He is a fun guy and has a lot of friends and pretty much does and believes what he wants and finds a way to justify it all. He's been married 3 times and never was even so much as reproved. Each wife gets younger as he gets older. His current wife is another pretty young 27 year old and is 6 months younger than his only daughter. (Daughter not happy, Wife jealous of Daughter)
Anyway he had a milestone birthday this week as well as his wedding anniversary. He went on FB and talked to all his fans about how quickly time flies and how he manages to keep a youthful outlook and shared all this other corny wisdom with them. Many of his JW friends said "Happy Birthday....can't wait till we're a thousand years old and are still young etc." Then he'd reply with " That's right my brutha' we'll only be just beginning " yadda yadda. (since when is Happy Birthday an acceptable JW expression I wondered? )
All his friends are chiming in, one after another, about living forever and the new system being so near.
So I got on there and simply asked..." Hey....where's my Lion ???"
I checked back a few hour later he replied " Lion....what Lion Bro ?? "
I said. " Weren't we supposed to be perfect by now and have our own pet lion ...the Paradise Book said we'd all have our own pet lion....where's my Lion, we' ve been waiting our whole life for this Lion and we aint gettin' any younger? "
It's been days now and what was once a lively conversation has come to a screeching halt. There have been no further comments and I'm not sure if I should lay low or call him. Do you guys think I went too far and maybe embarrased my Brother? Maybe I was out of line butting into his conversation. I Hopefully he won't unfriend or unbrother me.

I finally watched Saturday Night Fever
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite ini remember back when the movie came out how it was condemned by wt.
cos, dos, elders, all ranted against the movie.
other than the profanity, travolta adjusting himself in his undies, some violence, sex, and drug stuff, it was not "bad".

I was at Bethel during that time period. Everything was Disco, the Bee Gees,Earth Wind and Fire etc...even at certain JW weddings. Your post reminded me of something that happened while I was there in NY in 1976. I was always a pretty good dancer so it was a good time period for me. I went to an amazing wedding one Saturday in the Bronx on a humid summer night. The people in attendance were mostly black and hispanic. The lights went down and it was non stop dancing. Somehow all us good little Witnesses knew the latest worldly dance moves. A sister got up and sang "Inseperable" by Natalie Cole and it gave you goosebumps to hear her voice. I was wearing my nicest clothes that night. A nicely cut dark green jacket, an open necked quiana shirt and a pair light tan colored wide legged cuffed pants and platform shoes (not too high) all of which I had gotten in Europe the summer before I went to Bethel. I danced all evening with a girl I met named Zan, we didn't talk that much because it was so loud but we danced like we had known eachother for years. I'm not really someone who sweats too much but it was so hot and humid that any movement at all made you stickey. Everyone's faces were shiney, Zans bare shoulders were damp and everyone was just sort of clamy but nobody cared. I danced with Zan until the bitter end and walked from the dark reception hall to the the Subway station a few blocks away. Compared to the crowded dance floor I noticed the street was refreshingly cool. Going down the stairs to the platform below and I noticed people were looking at me oddly. When I borded the well lit train I saw a group of cute girls my age checking me out( I thought) but they were kinda giggling too it seemed. I casually gave myself the once over and saw to my horror that my light tan pants were soaking wet all around the waist area and the moisture had sort of wicked downward making dark streaks that looked like I'd wet my pants. All I could think to do was to take my jacket off and tie it around my waist. The girls really giggled when I did that but they were pretty nice, I told them I'd been at a wedding and explained that I had been dancing all evening. They seemed like they were looking for somewhere to go for fun that summer night but of course they weren't JW's so it didn't even enter my head to ask where they were headed.
With all the dire warnings about the wicked world, they rubbed much of the sparkle of youth out of our lives. Still they couldn't vanquish all of my fresh youthfull outlook. I managed to have a pretty good time for myself back then but still I look back on how much I missed out on and how my narrow JW circumstances made me miss opportunities and experiences that are only available to the young. Anyway, years later I dared to see Sat. Night Fever I liked the music but I wondered what all the fuss was about...I was expecting it to be much more shocking.
