But RubaDub, Moore is sitting on top of bedrock, which is extremely expensive to get through, even for a hole that small. You also have to factor in water coming into the shelter, which could just as easily kill you as falling debris. If the door is built too airtight, you will run out of air quickly.

I don't get it ... 80% of people in Oklahoma DON'T have a Tornado Shelter. Are they nuts ????
by RubaDub ini really don't understand.
how can any homeowner in his right mind, not have a tornado shelter ???
i understand that some people live in apartments and condos, but someone with any size yard (even a driveway) could have a shelter.. to me it's a no-brainer.

As damaging as a hurricane is, I'd have to say tornadoes are probably more dangerous, seeing as you have almost no warning ahead of time when one finally touches down. Especially an F5 tornado. Doesn't matter how well your house was built, it is not going to survive a direct hit. When it comes to shelters, I'm sure it is just too expensive for your average homeowner to build, especially when you factor in how expensive it is to blast through bedrock and also how Oklahoma is one of the poorest states.
Oh and also, one of the most damaging things about tornadoes is the pressure. It pretty much makes your house implode.

Oklahoma Tornado
by Simon inwow, just saw this on the news.
truly devastating.. sorry i have no words to offer anyone other than that we're thinking of anyone who'd been affected..

LouBelle, wood homes are cheaper to build than brick homes. Being that Oklahoma is one of the poorest states, it really isn't surprising.
Regardless of that though, any building in the path of that particular tornado was obliterated. Even brick homes were completely demolished.

I can't even imagine heading into your storm shelter, re-emerging only to see everything around you is completely gone. Or maybe I just don't want to imagine.

How can you tell?
by free2beme inafter seeing this time and time again on facebook.
i have an answer.. how can you tell someone is vegan or a vegetarian?.
answer - you wont have to, because they will tell you every single day over in over in food post, recipes and bragging about how good they feel.

MrFreeze
I don't mind vegetarians, as long as they aren't emphatic about other people not eating meat. Vegans are the worst. It's almost as bad as having a JW for a friend. Instead of telling you how great the meetings are and how bad things are in the world, they tell you how great being a vegan is and how terrible it is in the world of dairy, honey, and meat.

Oklahoma Tornados
by Bob_NC ini was listening to the horrible news about the tornado damage in oklahoma, and especially about the elementary school that collapsed and the kids that are feared to be trapped.
so this 72 year-old man was interviewed.
he said he wasn't afraid and had told his wife that the lord would protect them.

BotH, with that tornado in Moore, OK, if you were not underground, and in the path, you were not going to survive.

No problem. Hopefully she is okay. Looks like the entire town of Moore was completely destroyed.
They're saying this may have been the strongest tornado, with the strongest winds on record.
