I don't know, a lot of the people in my hall have seen Schindler's List.

Your guilty pleasures...
by MrFreeze inwhen you were a witness, or if you still are, what types of movies/games/tv shows/books/other activities did you enjoy that the society might not find too appropriate for jdubs.
for me here's a list of things i enjoyed that wouldn't have made the friends too pleased but that i rather enjoyed.. movies: all the best movies are rated r. whether it be language, violence, or sex.
you'd be hard pressed to find a movie made in the last 20 years that is really good that isn't rated r. some movies i enjoyed that the friends wouldn't have wanted me to be seeing: the matrix, godfather, godfather 2, goodfellas, american history x, office space, the pianist, shawshank redemption, the shining.

Those are just a few. I feel bad that the friends have to miss out on these because they aren't up to the "standards" of the WTS.
Games: I love war games. They are the most fun to play. Games like Halo are a blast to play. You see, I can seperate the difference between real life and fantasy. A series of games I loved to play, which would be considered demonic, is the Silent Hill series. Just a freaky, terrifying, chilling, horror genre. it's just a lot of fun. Again, people miss out on some great things because of lame restrictions.
TV Shows: One of my favorite shows on TV right now, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. When I think about the laughs I've gotten from that show, man it's just so awesome.
Books: I don't read many books anymore, but I did love horror and war novels.
Other activities: I love paintballing. If you haven't done it, give it a try. It's a real rush.
Those are some of the things I enjoy despite the fact that I'm a Witness. What about you guys? What are some specific things that you enjoy that the Society looks down on?

I wonder sometimes just how many people there are that wish they could get out of the organization but they feel trapped in it. I know most people don't really care for meetings or service. Otherwise they wouldn't have to constantly hound the members to engage in both.

Belief in the Torture Stake and Noah's Ark - My Issues
by MrFreeze inwe all have jw beliefs that we take issue with.
what are some of the beliefs you think about that really bug you, that not too many people talk about?.
for me there are two specific teachings.

We all have JW beliefs that we take issue with. It's why we are all here right now. What are some of the beliefs you think about that really bug you, that not too many people talk about?
For me there are two specific teachings. One is Noah's Ark. One thing that always bugged me about the story of Noah's Ark was how did the animals get spread around the Earth after Noah released them all? How did black bears get to North America? How did monkeys end up in South America? How did penguins get to Antarctica? How did lemurs get to Madagascar? They sure didn't fly there. Everybody talks about "How did they fit all the animals on the ark?" but they never talk about how the animals ended up where the did.
Another issue is with the cross. John 20:25 says: "Consequently the other disciples would say to him: 'We have seen the Lord!' But he said to them: 'Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails and stick my finger into the print of the nails and stick my hand into his side, I will certainly not believe.'"
Here's what the WTS has to say about that: " In Luke 24:39 the resurrected Jesus said: “See my hands andmyfeet, that it is I myself.” This suggests that Christ’s feet also were nailed. Since Thomas made no mention of nailprints in Jesus’ feet, his use of the plural “nails” could have been a general reference to multiple nails used in impaling Jesus.
Thus, it just is not possible at this point to state with certainty how many nails were used. Any drawings of Jesus on the stake should be understood as artists’ productions that offer merely a representation based on the limited facts that we have. Debate over such an insignificant detail should not be permitted to becloud the all-important truth that “we became reconciled to God through the death of his Son.”"
In the scripture they don't mention hands and feet. He was only referring to the hands. Then the WTS has the nerve to say that debating over such an insignifigant detail should not be done. Wait, aren't they the ones who make a big deal about what it was Jesus died on?

If You Still "Had" To Go To Meetings What "Disrespectful" Things Might You Do?
by minimus ini know some who go to meetings because they feel they have to because of family or other considerations.. imagine going to a meeting and having your iphone with you!.
how would it look if you had a watchtower in your hands along with a tv guide?.
think about going to a meeting with strong booze breath.. any other suggestions?

I had a friend do this at a meeting. Keep in mind he was not a Witness and my other friends mother convinced him to come to the meeting. He came there wearing an Ozzy Osbourne shirt. He falls asleep, snoring loudly during the meeting, and he wakes up in the middle of the watchtower and says (rather loudly) "Is the meeting over yet?" as he's stretching. Classic.

My Daughter Just Graduated From College!
by GoingGoingGone inshe was about 13 or 14 when i first started having serious doubts about the wts.
when i informed her of my doubts a couple years later, she took the information and ran with it.... she never looked back.
i told her she could be whatever she wanted to be if she only worked hard enough.
-

Wait she went to college? I bet she's a terrible person right now. She's just pure evil.
I know it's hard to tell sarcasm over the Al Gore machine so yes, I am being sarcastic. Congrats to her!

Do you know of anybody who...
by MrFreeze in... has gone to a district convention based on one of the invitations in the annual campaign?
my convention is held about 3 hours from where i live so i doubt it has gotten anybody to go to the convention.
i'm not even sure what the purpose of it is.

On another note, people who come might be turned away at the door anyway. Yes, that has happened. Someone I knew decided to come to the convention (who wasn't a witness) dressed in a regular shirt and jeans was turned away at the door by an attendant because they thought he was going to try and disrupt things. He couldn't name the congregation I was apart of and didn't have an badge so they wouldn't let him in.
