piztjw, I'm glad you include me in the "welfare leaches." I've been working since I was 12. Currently, 1/3 of my paycheck goes to taxes. Got a phone call saying that I was laid off back in November. Not even the decency to say it to my face. I didn't sulk about it. I didn't say "Oh well, I'll just collect welfare." One minute after I got off the phone, I was on the internet sending resumes to every place I could. The person who hired me three weeks later said "If I were you I would have stayed on unemployment." I said "That's not me. I want to work."

Funny that you don't mind corporate welfare, but the people who really need welfare are just leeches. Of course, in that short three weeks I was unemployed I was one of the "47%" that idiots like Mitt Romney think are just lazy bums.

Edit to add: Go take a long walk off a short pier.

But Farkel, how did that rich person get his money in the first place? You can be as rich as you want, if nobody is spending money on your product, your business will be a failure. Can't hire people when nobody is buying your product.

talesin - Lemieux is a co-owner with Ron Burkle who is a multi-billionare. He is there right along side of Lemieux. Although Lemieux is more of the face of the ownership because he has such a history with Pittsburgh as well as the Penguins.

I think of people like Mark Cuban and Bill Gates in the same way.

EDIT to add: I guess this really goes back to the point of these guys really aren't job creators. They are selling products people want and hire only based on necessity.

Food For Logical Thought...

sometimes we waste hours and hours debating a subject like the flood, and the impossible scientific and evolutionary consequences that it entails.

we go into great debates about how all of is is possible, what a "kind" means (species, obviously not)... etc.... but believers will not stop believing... so here is something even a child would think of more logically:if god is all powerful and love why would he have not just made the wicked drop dead, painlessly?

I know the WT has always said that the people who die at Armageddon will know what is happening when it happens. That means that they will be dying agonizing, dreadful, terrible deaths. Keep in mind the JW's rejoice at this. Only one word describes someone like that... sociopath.

so since we have not been to a meeting in 6 months or so, i decided to ask my daughter (on the way home from cheerleading practice - yeah i can't believe i am letting her engage in such a worldly activity lol) if she misses going to the kingdom hall.

she says sometimes because she can't see her friend - but she has made new friends so it doesn't bother her too much.

so i ask her, "well, what about learning about jehovah?

Not all people who are rich who run a business or sell things are greedy. I wouldn't call somebody like Mario Lemieux, who is co-owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins, greedy. Sure, he makes money doing it but when you look at how he runs his business, it is because he genuinely loves hockey and the fans of the game. He is selling a product (the Pittsburgh Penguins) and not being greedy about it at the same time.
