Why are atheists so intent on scorning "believers"?
by Chariklo inuntil recently, i had never encountered this word "believers" used as it is being used on this board, to describe pejoratively a group of people.
it's not clear to me whether they scorn all who have a faith of some sort.
do they include buddhists, hindus, followers of the baha'i faith, followers of the cargo cult, native americans along with christians, or is it just christians who are honoured with this epithet?.

Well charlie, you have to understand who you are dealing with. "We" (the group being spoken of) are former members of a cult that promotes being right always and being pasionate. I susspect there is carry over in other facets of life. Former believers in dubbieisum tend to be pasionate post dubbie, whatever it is "we" come to believe, be it thor worshippers or athiests or any other catagory one wants to create for people. I see it in so called believers and so called athiests and many others... I prefer to view everyone individually. Theres enough jack asses in life in every conceivable catagory one would make for people that i dont have to make special effort to find or catagorize them ;)

Actually flipper i wish you would get into the debate! You have first hand info to share... I have no objection to consoderation of the subject, but absent evidance (of the sort you have) its all theoretical. Im not one to mock legitmate discussion and am certainly interested... I would love it to be true .... It would be exciting as hell...but as noted there are serious questions. How to you view the whole diet and civilazation aspects and how do you think have they been able to hide?

dat dog, i would counter by saying that although it wasnt believed that courgars inhabited your city in particular, the fact that courgars exsist and are real is without question. to suggest that a much smaller animal like a courgar could not escape detection in the wild but a huge primate can stretches the bounds of imagination.

I find interesting the concept that somehow humans today are ill equiped for survival. That flies in the face of the fact that...well... we DO survive. Every day. To seperate "the wild" from "civilazation" is deny reality. The world simply "is". There is no "wild" or "civilization" distinction. As humans we are so damn successful we alter the world around us to suit our needs. Its simply ludicrus to say we arnt equiped to survive when are so good at it we are overpopulating the earth.
and the sasquatch thing is not very likly. We arnt discovering new speciecs of apes on the North american contient or any other large animal. Insects, certainly. But something as large as a sasquatch is an Apex creature. It defies commons sense and logic to think it could hide out in the world we live in, as throughly explored and traveld as North America is.....

Do the elders have "clear direction" that it's ok to use an ipad at meetings?
by nochoice ini read this post more than a year ago: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/212313/1/watchtower-publications-for-ipad.
since i saw it, i've been waiting for the first brother or sister to show up at the hall with an ipad to see what happens.
a little here and there at the conventions and assemblies.

yes there is clear direction. There is a letter (im sure atlantis posted it) that says its fine to have in the audiance, not to use on the platform. May stumble some (matrielizi m and they may feel they have to buy one) also a fear the battery may die in the during a part. But from the seat is fine. At least 10 people in my hall use them every meeting, varying mkes and models... i use one too cause its easy to play games on during the metting

How often did you entertain the "Traveling Overseers", and did you regret it afterwards?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia ini found taking the traveling overseers out for a meal, to be a waste of time.
our literature regulary spoke of the upbuilding talk the local congregations received by entertaining our brothers.
now some of the modern cos look at their telecommunication devices, talk of things not related to our ministry or phone it in.

I did and still do from time to time... I agree about not taking two of them together (like a do and a co), they do tend to talk shop a LOT. I have found though that if you get just the co and get him to freakin relax for 30 seconds hes usually an ok guy. I like pulling them out of the cult persona for a few min and seeing the real person (or as close to it as u can get)... Every dubbie has a real person waiting to be brought out of them. I suppose if you goal was to go to lunch and get attention from him it would be easy to be disapointed, but if you view as "lunch with a buissness acociate" its usually fine. Nothing to get excited about and if the food was good it all worked out.
