Why are atheists so intent on scorning "believers"?
by Chariklo inuntil recently, i had never encountered this word "believers" used as it is being used on this board, to describe pejoratively a group of people.
it's not clear to me whether they scorn all who have a faith of some sort.
do they include buddhists, hindus, followers of the baha'i faith, followers of the cargo cult, native americans along with christians, or is it just christians who are honoured with this epithet?.

Just for the record, Im not trying to say we shouldnt debate. i also said i am happy to have the discussions and feel we all benefit when our beliefs are challanged. It can be hard not to be personal when emotions are involved but we benefit from discussing ideas, we lose put when we attack each other personally (i am certainly guilty of it as much as anyone).

see, thats the confusing part charlie... im not opposed to the belief in god per say. I am willing to allow for it. If the big guy (or gal) wants to have a tete a tete im ready willng and able! I also am not godless, being willing to kiss thor's ass at any time, especially since he's evidently going to kill everyone on the east coast today with a hurricane of never before seen proportions. but really, at this point, im not on speaking terms with the big fella (or gal) so does that make me an athiest?
I dont feel the need to run around and convince the world that 'god is dead', although im happy to have a rational talk about why im not worried about pissing him off either. Is it simply saying that i havent seen any proof of god (although im willing to listen) that makes me an athiest, or does being an athiest require some sort of firm anti god stand?
I dont really like lables for things that are likely to change anyway. thats why im resistant to accept being called an athiest and worship thor until proven wrong or something better comes along. It keeps me out the athiest camp but allows for furture adustment as Odin, zeus or anyother god may require.

So the summary is that someone living in VA knew something so dangerous to the WT that two elders were sent to poision him? really? pray tell, what could he have possibly known that was so dangerous to the borg? or dare i ask! perhaps i too am in mortal danger! maybe they will send an elder to kill me too... oh hell... i just realized.... I AM AN ELDER!!! maybe they will send ME to kill ME!!
