Your right bob about mass and speed. That would play out in two ways as i understand it: one would be the tendancy of the structure (the craft itself) to dishape as it turned, creating stress and possible airframe failure. Some shapes and designs resist this more than others ( sharp angles are terrible at handling these forces) the second would be increased need for energy as it turned... Lots of others im sure...

As for my neigh sayer friends: :P

Remote control tv's wernt invented by people who said it cant be done. Every awesome piece of technology starts as somebody's "why not?" moment ;) 10 years ago plasma shields were bullshit science fiction. Today they are small scale reality :)

Bob a practicle application of your light illistration is a mirrior. It reflects at 180 degrees (strait back at you more or less) so i see what you are saying...

And i agree with both of you that the theortical possoblities are awesome to consider. Its discussions like these that lead to the ideas of tommarow :) i am certainly not making light of any of it!

i had quite the fun time at my wedding reception with the jw family so worried that my non-jw aunt was going to do a toast.

unlike them, i do have regard for not offending the conscience of others, so of course i wasn't going to allow that under the circumstances.

i mean, if they really thought i was going to let them do that, why did they even come in the first place?

Facinating research satanus! Here the thing.... The g forces that suit counters are the forces that cause black outs/white outs (circulation related under heavy loads) the g forces we are theorizing would ( i think) be beyond blood flow issues, at least at the speeds data dog is theorizing about.

I would love to see real research on this. My gut simply says the water moves and you are in the water so there is no benefit, but of course my gut may be all wrong.

So heres my thinking satanus: we agree on the air supply and the pilots air cavities not being compressed. The whole scuba thing we agree on the physics of...

But the more i think of it the more i am convinced being encapsulated in water wouldnt protect a pilot. It dosent add up. The water that the pilot is on moves the same as air. Both are fluids from a mechanical pov, and water is even used to help test and measure aerodynamics. The water would react exactly as being encased in air and would not protect from g forces being transfered to the pilot i susspect. It would be very interesting to see if anyone has done the real world tests. Surly we are not the first blokes to discuss this.... But until we see some real data i would bet everything i have that water would be irrelevant/netural in the transferance of g forces

That is basically true satanus but consider: a diver at 33 ft is in 1atm, 66ft 2 atm etc ... The diver dosent have a special aparatus persay to compensate, its simple physics. The air in his tank naturally wants to fill the void in his lungs with enough to compensate for the pressure of the water PROVIDED his tank has sufficent air pressure to compensate. The regulator makes that air available at a reasonable pressure to be handled , essentially ambient pressure. 9g (gravity d 9) is the equilivant of a diver going to 297 ft under water. This is doable and is done by tec divers but its requires specific mixtures of gasses. All im saying is, while do able its not easy and it dosent adress the main issue: your taking the water and moving the water. With the person in it. The person is still moving and still subject to loads... It wouldnt negate the pressure of a high speed 90 degree turn (like a light cycle) and may only make it worse. It would be interesting to see solid testing and research but my gut says it dosent add up.

satanus, a scuba diver dosent use anything to equalize the air in his body except air. As he breathes he is taking in more air molecules per breath as he goes deeper. He can also equalize his ears (sinus cavities) by pinching his nose and blowing.. but that has nothing to do with G force translation.

the problem will be that the water moves with the craft. the pilot would be pushed to the back and against the seat just as he would if there were no water. I wonder if he wouldnt have MORE weight applied to him. Water weighs 8 pounds per gallon (well sea water) and that weight would push against him..... i dont think the physics works out on this one

Sigh.... The whole water thing is being misunderstood, i think. It has nothing to do with g forces and acceleration. Water isnt compressable and maybe thats whats being thought of but as long as you have air in your body (lungs sinus etc etc) your body is still compressable, but none that dosent change the effect of g forces on the body during flight. Im not purposly trying to over anyalize here, but in taking about high speed travel and sudden changes in direction it has to be considered
