  It is probably a bad idea, but I would like to get your opinion

  is it a bad idea for me to invite a lady that i just met at wal mart to my home?

  i have never have invited ladies that fast especially from the store to my home, but i wonder if i should have invited her right away???

  i was waiting at the line and there was a gorgeous lady, she said hi first to me.

  I think you made the right move by giving her your business card. If someone invited me to their home right from the parking lot, I would be a little concerned about their motives. If she's interested, she will call you. Arrange to meet at a public place, it makes you look better. Then invite her to your place for dinner if the first date goes well.

  My Moms shepherding call re: the organisation

  the elder in addition to the paedophile problem stated that not even "half" of the jw's at meetings are "proper witnesses".

  he said the lifestyle of many are ruining the organisation for the majority.. i thought it was most interesting that despite his gripes with the religious leaders, jesus still used the temple to communicate with god despite eventually god removing his blessing from the jewish nation.. he intimated that eventually this would happen with the jw's.

  its a funny comment for an elder to make..

  I think it's great that you offered the guy and his wife some encoragement instead of running the other way with your shopping cart. I've been out for 12 years now, but when I was in- I would have done the same thing. I have always had a big problem with the shunning thing.

  I have finally did it and I will graduate from college with my BA degree in Sociology.

  well everybody i told you all a few years back how hard it was to be in college at the age of 40. i thought my hair was going to fall out trying to keep up with the young college kids in math and science.

  but now 3 years later i will be graduating this november with my ba degree.

  i just love school and will be applying for graduate school to get my ma.

  Congratulations! And thanks for the inspiration. I am 38 and working on my BA in psychology, and I intend to get my masters after that. I would like to eventually get into counseling. I would like to be able to help those who have suffered as a result of the WBTS.

  Had an interesting conversation with mom about shunning...

  so i was speaking about some "problems" and "confusion" i had about the wtbs, and while speaking the subject of shunning came up.. .

  long story short, my mom said that if i were (theoretically) ever to leave,.

  she would still speak to me and have me over and do all the normal things .

  Is "big momma" telling you how she as an individual would handle the situation? My sister and I have both been DF since 98. Our "big momma" still speaks to both of us and does all of the normal things. If "big momma" keeps her personal life private then there shouldn't be any problems. However, if the other dubs catch wind of it then they will cause problems for her.

  Re-reading "Crisis of Conscience" again....

  the 'revelations' hit me even harder, the second time around..... i purchased two copies, the version copyrighted 1983 and the version copyrighted 2004. i kept the old version [1983] and just donated the 2004 copy to my local library - with a quick warning that 'cult' members may be inclined to steal the expose.

  i decided to read it again to try to visualize how a "worldly" person who is unacquainted with the jws would view the book.... in reading the book again, i am more forcefully struck by the blatant contradictions between the 'official' stance of the watchtower society and their 'behind-the-scenes' behavior.... chapters 3 & 4 - "governing body" and "internal upheaval and restructure" - contain some eye-popping material... the earlier portion of chapter 3 touches on the intrusive regulation of sexual practices between husband and wife [i'll bet any worldly person reading that would find that chilling, to say the least...], and then goes into the power struggles between russell's followers and rutherford's ousting of said followers during his successful bid for control.. very revealing... i was also struck by the fact that the wtbts was a religion with a single man leading it, until the very end of nathan knorr's period of leadership, despite the claims of the watchtower magazine that "god's organization" was being run by a "governing body" of spiritual "caretakers" for several years prior to the actual existence of said "governing body"!!!.

  as ray franz states, page 65 of 1983 version: "[quote from 12/15/71 watchtower...]: "thus, too, even though there were no apostles of christ on hand in the nineteenth century, god's holy spirit must have been operative toward the formation of the governing body for his anoited remnant ... the facts speak for themselves.

  I'm new to this site. Have been on the Freeminds site quite a lot lately. I was DF in 98 and am finally exploring other faiths. I have been considering purchasing both books. After reading all of your posts, I am definitely ordering both!
