All of the children that I grew up with that were not spanked, became pretty disfunctional as adults (drugs, multiple sexual partners, etc.).
Interesting thoughts. Not sure I would agree "multiple sexual partners" makes for a dysfunctional adult. Drugs...depends what kind...marijuana wouldn't be dysfunctional from my viewpoint. Those judgements seem very JW..."the world is evil" type of view.
so i don't understand it seems to me from the posts that i have read just about everyone is disassociated.. just wondering if that's true or if i am not the only one on here still within the organization..
Nope...there's all kinds on here. Some still in and active but want out, some DA'd, some DF'd, some who have just faded away, and some trying to fade or get out.
BTW, welcome to the forum. I was a born-in JW...then faded away a few years ago.

I think marriage is unneccasary for a successful relationship. Registering your union with the government to get a piece of paper has nothing to do with the strength of a bond.
That said, I remarried last year because it was important to my wife. And so far it was the best day of my life.

my dad got so upset once he was gonna hit me with his fist on my leg but I was faster than him and moved it away, he hit the iron bed support... he broke his hand.... take that Fruits of the Spirit.
I like it...damn you fruits of the spirit! My father would lose his temper easily and would want to hit me with his fist....but open his hand last second. Slap/punch.
One time was after the Sunday meeting, noon time. I got changed out of my dress clothes too fast for him, he didn't like that I assumed we weren't going out in afternoon service. He freaked and hit me in the kitchen. Such love encouraged me to really really want to go in service.

Many a time my mother chased me around the house with a metal clothes hanger or the belt
Right...and then there were the different tools of spanking. THE BELT..."I'm gonna get your father's belt" was always the big one. Then there was the bare bottom spank or the clothed spank.
Metal clothes hanger...ouch. Once got spanked with a bike brake cable that was lying around in the yard. Think I was ignoring calls for supper.

And their favorite scripture to quote, don't recall it exactly, but He says "use the rod". Then there was the song about youth (forgot the title) that used that heart-warming line "he says use the rod". Sung in a happy little jingle....creepy.
The worst spankings were the ones that came AFTER a meeting. You'd be threatened in the meeting "you're getting a spanking when we get home". Then you'd sweat out the rest of the meeting, for once NOT wanting it to end. Then the ride home and agony hoping that they forgot. Sometimes they'd follow thru, sometimes not. But the waiting was cruel.
Anyhoo...that was my experiences. Anyone else? Curious if spankings were more common amongst JWs than society in general? Also, is it just the times changing...is spanking just as common today amongst JWs as it was 20 years ago?
