A shiny Newton apple for zoiks on defining the difference between law vs. theory. I've tried to explain it a couple times on here...and it went about as smoothly as Rosie O'Donnell running in flip flops.

Common Misconceptions Re: Evolution
by cantleave inthis is another cut and paste, but i make no apology (unless it has been posted on here already), as it is very informative.
evolution is one of the best supported, most elegant, and most powerful theories in all of science.
as it stands, it is the best explanation that we have for the diversity of life on earth.

My Father passed away during the night
by jwfacts indad was a great man, great, despite the religion.
he was powerful, tall and intelligent, yet humble and kind.
he was an introvert, and a circuit overseer.

My sincere condolences to you sir. Sorry to hear that. Your post has given me something to think about. My JW father is 64 and we haven't spoken in 5 years and certainly haven't made "our peace".

The 2 Witness Rule And Divorce
by minimus injehovah's witnesses talk about the need for a minimum of 2 witnesses to prove a matter as fact.....if a child tells his parents that brother love "touched" him where he should not have, unless 2 witnesses can attest to the accusation and saw the alleged action, the elders will do nothing about it if the accused states it never happened.. meanwhile, if a jehovah's witness wife told the elders that her unbelieving husband admitted to her that he had committed adultery, and there were not 2 witnesses, only her word, if the elders believed her, she could write a statement for the elders stating her situation and she would then be free to remarry in the future!.
as long as the elders believed her and accepted what she said as truth, she would be free to marry another and not be guilty of adultery, per the scriptural rule.. double standard, methinks!.

It does seem to vary from congregation to congregation, or the personalities of the elders involved. Some do the stakeouts, some take them at their word as they eventually did in my case.
Your point is valid. The 2 witness rule is somehow flexible for scriptural divorce but not for abuse accusations? Double standard indeed.

Not always that easy minimus....as I learned on this thread I started, if you don't mind me linking to it. Was surprised to learn that elders have held all-night stakeouts...creepy.

Lots of Noise About the 'Quiet Beatle'
by leavingwt insinatra referred to 'something' as the "greatest love song ever written" and it's not a bad choice.
the upcoming focus on george includes an exhibit in la next month, a scorcese film and a book by harrison's widow.
besides 'something', my favorite beatles' songs by harrison would be: here comes the sun, while my guitar gently weeps and taxman.. .

Hell no sd...that was great. Adding in a Jar Jar line would've been taking it too far. I'm a white guy so ain't got no rhythm, what tune do you suggest I sing/rap it to? Wait…let me rephrase: as a white guy which Dave Matthews song should I sing it to?
Here's a good change on Phantom Menace...replaced the puppet Yoda with CGI Yoda...

"The organization has never disappointed us..."
by Franklin Massey inin the simplified english edition of the july 15th, 2011 watchtower, in an article that warns jws about apostate influences, the following quote is given as a reason to stick close to the watchtower organization:.
"the organization has never disappointed us and always gives us an abundance of pure waters of truth from god's word.".

unshackled, OUCH. Is there a thread that discusses that issue of AWAKE!? Were blood fractions really an issue in those cases?
Franklin...that Awake was from 1994, and yes those kids on the cover had died refusing blood transfusions (what a shining example of a complete waste of life.) From what I know it was sometime after 2000 they made the adjustment to the blood doctrine, where it was then up to one's conscience to receive blood fractions.
Did a quick search and here's a couple threads that came up. I'm sure there's more though...

Shamus, the acting in that clip is CBC worthy.
I'd rather see Lucas spend his energy touching up this scene...

I think the 'KHAAAAN' might be better Charlie.
Agonus, agreed not all the changes were bad. The enhancements to the visual effects were good. The 'Yub Nub' song was painful...glad that was changed. But the character changes are bad...Han not shooting first, and now this.
