i was nearly an elder--when the whole shebang started. i had decided to quit the religion--in 1971. i was a servant at the time--aged 23.
i went to the congregation servant---as it was called back then---and told him i wanted to quit--and the reasons.
he was surprised--but thanked me for coming forward--as he was about to put my name forward as an elder !!

yes---i heard the story about the Slade guy---but --in a radio interview in recent years he said the royalties from the record were part of his pension.
going back to the late 60's--there was a well-known "bad lad" football player in the west midlands--?? Knowles-??---who joined the cult. i saw him at an assembly.
also--"liquorice " Locking--bass player for the Shadows---met him at an early 60's Twickers
i have been posting on here for a few weeks now and i know i have been quite colourful in my language.. i hope i have'nt offended anyone, if so, i am sorry.. i'm just so damn angry about everything.

a old thread was bumped recently in which posters from 9 years ago raised objections to evolution basesd on personal incredulity regarding sexual reproduction.. i remember an elder in one of my old congregations saying something to the effect that "how could evolution be true, if men evolved before women...blah blah" you get the picture.. i have refreshed my memory of a chapter in nick lane's excellent book "life arising - the ten greatest inventions of evolution" and put together a summary.
it would be great if others would add to it - cantleave, adam, tiktaalik, s&r, bohm et al?.
here is my starter focusing on the problem with non-sexual selection.... if the driving force in evolution is the struggle of selfish genes to pass on copies of themselves to future generations, then sex seems counter-productive.

since being de-borged, i have come to appreciate that the answer to the old blue book "did man get here by evolution or by creation" is probably "evolution".. one thing about evolution which is still hard to explain is why or how did sexual reproduction evolve?
of course now that we have it, i guess most of us would not like to go back to the "old" way, of either dividing ourselves into 2, or else self-fertilizing ourselves from our own 2 sets of sex-organs (ewwww!!!).
i know a lot of men try this anyway but to no avail.......... but what motive force could have existed to actually evolve sexual reproduction in the first place?

i had an idea for coming up with a standard(ish) set of interview questions which members of the ex-jw community could use to provide insights into their lives as a kind of series (yeah, i was thinking of "interview with a vampire", lol).. anyway, this is the result to show the sort of thing i'm thinking of (applied to myself) and i'd like feedback on the format and the questions as well as who you'd also like to see "interviewed".. feel free to provide your own life story as a separate topic or ask any additional questions that i've missed.
it's not meant to be rigid so questions / themes can be adapted as needed and split / joined as appropriate.
the common questions will hopefully apply to everyone for some consistency and to guide the writing process with additional questions asked that make sense to each subject.. well, here goes .... tell us a little about yourself and your family.. im an independent software developer who grew up in manchester (uk) but now lives in calgary (canada) with my wife angharad and two boys, liam and dylan.

some of the Gatenby family moved from Irlam to the i o wight in 1971---David & wife plus daughter Jane---and granny. i knew them very well.
i think john & margaret were bro & sis in law.
