Thanks all for your kind welcomes. Nelly - what on earth is your daughter doing in Hull? I lived there for four years there and my wife heralds from there (well 'Cottingham near York' as she says - guess you would have to know the geography to get that. Bit like saying you are from near Brighton when you live in Bournemouth. Well, as much as people in Bournemouth could be classed as 'living'). Cantleaves story did keep me entertained until Berwick where I get off the train. Just live over the border on the coast in a place noone has ever heard of. I guess the bloke who knocked on the door yesterday must have been from the Berwick cong. First call in over 3 and a half years since moving here. Was wondering if even Jehovah had never heard of our village either.

by jamesmahon ini must confess to 'lurking' occasionally for several years on this site - purely because i am bone idle and spend most of my day writing with work.
many of the posts are really funny, moving or both and very well written so thanks to all who contribute.. as can no doubt be seen by my inability to recognise that maybe having your own name as a username may not be the best of ideas (i don't have anything to hide but even so - it does reveal a complete lack of imagination), i have not posted to any forum before as far as i can remember.
my story is at least as 'entertaining' as some others on here and when i get the time will right it down if only as another warning for all the doubting jws that may read it.

Hi Nelly - Doncaster is North of the M25 so being from the South that is all part of the wasteland upon which you should not tread. I was actually with a taxi driver in East Grinstead today who must have been 50 and said he had never been further North than the Humber Bridge - and that was only once. Mind, if he had gone over the bridge he would only have got to Hull so maybe it was best he went no further. Just had visions of him bravely venturing further North with his wife saying "do you think we should turn back now? The people here all seem to have arms that hang down to their knees". That's lincolnshire for you. Where every man is also his son's uncle.

Hmm, yes - very true. Now open though and by the length of it should keep me entertained until Berwick. Perhaps that could have been phrased slightly better. See by the first line though that you were an elder so even more hope for my brother. I am out and around the country a lot. I know we have only just met but perhaps we can meet up some time - could do with chewing the cud with someone every now and again and unfortunately as the whole religion is just too weird for anyone not in it to really understand. My kids fortunately have never been exposed to this rubbish. My lads' grandma gave him a bible at christmas (mostly to annoy me) and he said "why have you given me this grandma? I don't believe in god". At 5. Bless. And I never really talk about religion at all so not sure where he picked that up from but goes to show how quickly children start mirroring your own beliefs even if you are not trying to indoctinate them.

Wow - thanks. I have my first PM. Always wondered what these were. Just before one arrives do you ever get tension? Sorry, 6 hours on a train joke.

How odd - just been near Hampshire today (well, East Sussex anyway and if you are from the North that means 'near'). On way home on the train now. Especially glad you managed to get your kids out and gives me hope that if you can get your family out as well my brothers have some chance of freedom - although little I fear. As for many people in the religion they are in it for reasons other than to praise Jehovah. Have you posted your story anywhere on here so I can be nosy? My wife was never a witness so cannot understand why it still interferes with my life so I think it is good for you if you have your wife to talk to as well. Sorry, brain has turned to snot resulting in command of English language dissappearing fast.

Cantleave - what part of UK are you in (broadly - I am guessing that by your name your are still in). I don't live in Doncaster now and am in the Borders.

Hello all
I must confess to 'lurking' occasionally for several years on this site - purely because I am bone idle and spend most of my day writing with work. Many of the posts are really funny, moving or both and very well written so thanks to all who contribute.
If I have been out for almost twenty years but it is amazing how as much as you don't want it to the cult just keeps popping up.
The reason I am posting is largely because I wondered if anyone was attached (past or present) to either the carcroft or bentley congregations in Doncaster. My borthers and nephew are still in the religion, have not spoken for seven years (my brothers both tried to strangle me in front of my pregnant wife - got to dig the brotherly love. One of them is of course an elder now) and wondered how they were. Brought on by dithering old JW knocking on door yesterday morning.
Cheers and sorry for the boring post. Hopefully slightly more interesting ones to follow when I get hang of this.
