Woman I work with just asked me, "if you fall in love and get married, do you have to marry a JW?"
by miseryloveselders inyou wanna talk about a section in the office floor becoming as quiet as a vacant building in the middle of nowhere.
so she put her hand on her chin and said in more words or less, "if you fall in love, and get married, do you have to marry a jw?
i couldn't imagine people looking at me poorly because i didn't marry a jw!

I always headed that one off at the pass by making it clear that I was in no (financial) postion to date anyone, which was and is true.
Back in school, I either said that I wasn't allowed by my folks to date until I was living on my own OR that I was simply not interested in sex and dating (kind of a lie).
Even though I no longer am in this sticky position of having to identify myself, my financial/employment situation is still a severely limiting factor. I cannot consider a serious realtionship with a female at this time BUT recently I got a bug put into my brain by someone and I'm gonna have to "get my rocks off" somehow...
Best of luck, Misery bruh. Get yourself out before you go insane...

Dearest Zid,
The one about the Devil is more commonly used these days, AFAIK. Just sayin'. Here's a link to a wiki about it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Devil_is_in_the_details
When I made reference to that saying, I was trying to make the point that when people constantly pick, pick, pick at something, they are usually looking for the negative, especially here. Hence the Devil being in the details. When I mentioned the Divine being in the big picture, I meant that it's good to stand back and look at how everything works together (or doesn't)...
Wishing you well..

I agree with james_woods about how the reasons for angry militancy among atheists are often self serving. It seems so reactionary and infantile IMO. I find the vicious ridicule of more harmless forms of belief rather off putting and I refuse to put myself in that kind of company. I refuse to side with atheism in general for that reason.
Honestly, atheists who viciously mock and ridicule Christians, Muslims, et al, on a continual basis are no better than the ones they criticize. They are as utterly dogmatic as the ones they fight against. What happened to "live and let live"?

PS: Sure, the Devil is in the details. On the other hand, the Divine can be found when you look at the big picture.

Why You Loyal Witnesses Should Oppose Disfellowshipping

The problem, Mrs. Peck, is in how DFing is used or often mis-used. Elders are just people and they tend to be corrupted by power like anyone else. Many of them totally get off on it. So disgusting! There is so much unfairness and so many outrageous miscarriages of justice that it's not worth it. The Rank & File tend not to be much better either. They tend to treat DF'd ones rather unfairly as well. Too many DFs getting treated like garbage. There are lots of horror stories. It's a tragedy!
Wake up and smell the toast. It's burning!

Did you Fade Gradually or Stop Attending Meetings Quickly ? Reasons ?
by flipper inbeen thinking about this and curious about what makes us all come to the decisions we came to in our fade/exiting the jw organization.. i think for myself having been born-in & raised a jw my doubts about the generation doctrine had simmered for years within me quietly and by the time i finally left in 2003 i had reached my breaking point.
also seeing unjust treatment of rank & file witness ( myself included ) just propelled me into my decision even quicker.
so - one day after meeting with 3 elders in a back room before a meeting and seeing their judgmental aggression towards me - i just told myself " enough is enough ".

Did I fade slowly or quickly? Hmm. I dunno. How long is a piece of string?
One fateful Saturday morning in Jan 2008 I slept in and I couldn't get myself to go to FS that day. I felt so bad that I crashed into an even deeper, more paralysing depression over it. I never went to FS again. That's when I was stalked for a time...
I attended meetings only sporadically for a few months after that, until I had one fateful argument with my mom (who was visiting) after a meeting over how I couldn't stand to be around "those people" in my congo, how fake I thought they were, how overly negative she thought I was being. I couldn't motivate myself to go to meetings after that one.
I felt sad, lonely and lost for the two years since, until I joined up here. Until this past summer, I wasn't sure whether I wanted to be a JW or not...
