i was blocked by a filter placed on my computer.
this website is one of those named so i was unable to come here either to get help.. my screen turned black with a message "website blocked by filter".
Thinking critically, I think the probability of this being a JW trojan/virus is extremely low.
Extremely low but not impossible, right? What's weird about this was that it was specifically targeted at anything X-JW (apostate) related. Hardly a coincidence. I hate chicken littles and ppl crying wolf as much as the next person but I think there might be something more to this...

i received a very disturbing e-mail this week from a former jehovah's witness who only now after 20 years wants to come forward and tell her story of a horrible child sexual molestation in her congregation.
she was told to shut up and never say a thing to anyone about what she knew.
a jehovah's witness man in her congregation was abusing his retarted daughter.
Is this for real? Or is this more Rick Fearon sensationalism? I hate to be so cynical (and seemingly cold-hearted) about something like this, but this is Rick we're talking about here! Have we already forgotten about the Johnny the Bethelite debacle already? I hate to be on any one poster like this but I hate sensationalism, muck raking and fear mongering. It makes the overall truth even harder to discern...

a few years ago i was the host for the x jw "meet-up" group here in portland.
i got a phone call from a women who was very upset.. her husband who she loved very much, was a xjw when they got married.
(she never was) he was dfed as a teenager.
If this story is to believed, I'm afraid that this couple (especially the man) is too far gone. I think the relationship is beyond help IMHO. The lady should get out already, especially since there are no (living) children involved. It's all so sad...

Anyone ever heard of a drive-by dowload? It's when someone programs links into a website that allow a surreptitious automatic download of whatever type of hostile programming is desired onto a visitor's computer. All a vistor would have to do is click on a link or just hover the mouse pointer over an image or link and that's all it would take. Maybe it's unlikely that someone in dubbie land would be crazy enough to try such a thing but I wouldn't entirely discount the possibilitly. We all know that the JW org, as a whole, isn't entirely on the up and up; I don't care how law abiding and Christian they claim to be.
As Amelia mentioned, this was some type of "host file" invasion. This kind of thing doesn't even have to involve any kind of executable file. Also, computers on the internet have varying grades of internet security software installed and some computers are more vulnerable to attack than others, depending on what security software is installed and how up to date the OS security patches are. This sounds like more of a surreptitious download than a legitimate option for ppl to chose yea or nay.
Can we give Amelia the benefit of the doubt, please?

As someone had already alluded to, I think this news story is too short on details. Perhaps some benefit of the doubt is needed here.
As to why this JW lady took this job, some questions do come to mind. I read somewhere that this was some type of temporary/seasonal job: was that really so? When this job was being advertised, was it actually specified that it involved wrapping x-mas gifts? When this JW applicant was being interviewed, were the job duties spelled out by the employer or was the employer vague on details? Was this lady hired on for clerical, shelf stocking or other duties and was pushed into gift wrapping that day to help pick up some slack? Was someone else who was supposed to be on gift wrapping duty absent from work that day? Was there no attempt on the employer's part to reach a compromise? (I wouldn't be surprised.) The the answer to any of the previous questions is in the affirmative, the employer richly deserved what they got IMO.

in person, people tend to love me.

At first blush, most ppl tend to think I'm charming and funny. As time goes on, I tend to make frequent social boo boos and commit the occasional social taboos because of my ADHD. I just don't have this mental/verbal "filter" like most "normal" human beings do, so I tend to be blunt at times. I don't intend to hurt ppl; it just happens sometimes. All-in-all, I wear my heart on my sleeve. Ppl who are intolerant, unforgiving and/or self righteous tend not to want to be around the likes me over the long term. That's about 9/10 JWs and just over half of the rest of humankind. I pay a heavy price for being "different", as do most sufferers of ADHD...
