Wow, that is really, um, typical....do people in the audience all just nod in agreement? Doesn't anyone cringe, and roll their eyes?

Australian Convention Pioneer family Experience - We found our vegetables in the gutter..why do they wanna be Martyrs?
by Witness 007 ina couple years ago district convention - a pioneer family with two kids explained how they had ran out of funds and had no dinner...as they turned the corner out witnessing they saw a vegetable truck had spilled some produce in the gutter and so "jehovah provided in our time of need..." i felt like yelling get a job you bum stop starving!!
not encouraging.

Tips on Job Interview's being an ex-JW and all of that
by mamalove indoes anyone ever think about when you are an ex jw and did not finish college, and how you handle that?.
by luck and skill i have always had a good job without a degree, but i found another opportunity, actually it is a municpal position, not a publicly traded or privately held company which i am used to working for for a decade.. i think i could squeek by on my 10 years of experience in my field, and the fact that i am in the process of enrolling and transferring credits to complete my degree.. so how would you handle that questions: "so do you have a degree in xxxx, what is your education background, etc?".
what i have said in the past, and it has helped as i got a subsequent job offer, is "due to circumstances, i did get married relatively young, and started a family, and was unable to finish college, because i put raising my children first.

Diana, that breaks my heart. I cannot accept the fact I will be an old woman someday, and never know my sister. She is smart, beautiful, articulate...my dad says never say never, maybe she will wake up one day. Maybe your sis will too.

Disassociation...is it to much hassle? Please advise as need help. Thanks
by Me Myself and I inhi guys,.
thank you for the warm welcome to the forum boards after years of just looking and reading.. i have been impressed by the many comments that have followed the introduction of dontplaceliterature and the balanced, humourus and individual views of the brothers and sisters (we are all human beings so as far as i am concerned no matter what religious persuasion we are all one family!
) that have replied with both candid and honest and often heartfelt comments.. i have started a topic and will give the reason for asking first, so anyone can skip the "getting to know me" bit.. i am currently wondering as a baptised member of the org, who hasnt attended either meetings or memorial in the last 4 years.

I would not bother. The fact that you left makes a statement. You do not seem to have anger, or the need to make a formal point. I would let it be especially if people are not pressuring you to establish your status. JW's love labels. Why let them slap one on you?
On the other hand, I loved reading your story on your great family and success and friendships and happiness! See, it can happen without the JW's unlike they would have us all thinking.

So how would you handle that questions: "So do you have a degree in xxxx, what is your education background, etc?"
What I have said in the past, and it has helped as I got a subsequent job offer, is "Due to circumstances, I did get married relatively young, and started a family, and was unable to finish college, because I put raising my children first. However, now that they are older, It is extremely important for me to be a good example, and complete my education, showing them that working, and having a career is important along with a solid education."
"Due to the economy, the tuition reimbursement program was cut from my employer of ten years, so at this time, I am moving forward on my own as it is the right time to do so in my life."
WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU SAY THAT IS BETTER? I am totally open for critiquing.
Being that this is a municipal job, would you dress down or up, or as I normally do, which is skirt, heels and top most days. That seems a little dressy for a city job. But I think it pays well and has good benefits, and the job I could do in my sleep, I know that! So say a little prayer for me please! (JK of course)!! Need some luck, going to drop off my info tomorrow at lunch!!

It Is WRONG To Make Threads About What The Watchtower Is Doing If You Do Not Have Facts To Back It Up!!!
by minimus ini think we should not make statements about what the watchtower society is secretly doing if we can not substantiate the statements.. we do not know if a "bethelite" is doing whatever he claims to be doing clandestinely.
when we make threads or statements about things we have absolutely no proof of, we are making ourselves look bad.. when impressionable people read these things, it sets our efforts back immensely.. please think about what you're doing.
it's counter-productive!.

Most prudent people take what they read on the internet with appropriate caution, skepticism, and level of believability. If they do not, it should not be another's problem. Although I understand both sides of the argument. Just my 2 cents.

Elder wants to do "other activities" with me
by InterestedOne ini'm fully aware that this is a cult, and i was waiting for the social elements to kick in.
so far, i have just been doing the "bible study," discussing doctrine, etc.
however, recently one of the elders said he wants to get together with me to do other activities.

Awww, you def have a crush on this gal! Maybe you will make her wake up. However, you know that if she chooses you, her family will shun her if you don't become a Witness.
What about doubts, does she have any doubts? There are people on this forum who have successfully gotten loved ones out. However, sometimes people leave, and then go back just to be with family.
33 and never been married for a JW is pretty old. Most JW people get married when they are teenagers. Did she go to college? Maybe she is more forward thinking?

My son contacted me... need advise
by Expanded-Mind in2010 will go on the record as a great year for me!
in november i heard from my youngest son (a jw), who i have not heard from in 8 years (i am an exjw).
hearing from him was wonderful enough, but he added to that joy by telling me he was married (to a non-jw) and i have a grandchild.

He might feel a little sheepish in the context like he has regrets. He is mending fences. The best thing to be is a good dad and a great grandpa. That makes my heart leap to hear your wonderful news. Best I have read all night!
