I was totally ignored at a quick build I volunteered for in the mid 90s (because I wasn't a certified anything at the time) until a pressure washer broke and I stepped in with my tools and fixed it. Then the overseer thanked me and asked me if I could also fix a portable generator that also broke and I did. As some of you might imagine (based on your own similar experiences), it didn't take long for some brothers to become noticeably jealous as they quickly noticed attention was no longer on them... I thought: "how incredibly childish"... so much so that I decided to "fade" from the quick builds because I realized I was only doing it to count my time without going to FS... the whole testosterone circus seemed completely stupid and pointless to me at the time (in one of my first brief moments of clarity)...

What was your experience of working at an assembly hall build?
by Heartofaboy ini volunteered to help out at an assembly hall build about an hour away from where i live.. i thought it would be an amazing experience & was looking forward to it very much.. when i went to reception i was asked if i had any trade skills, it was just about then i began to realise because i had no 'blue collar' trade skills i would be treated as a lesser person.........maybe even a slight nuisance.. as all the 'brothers' busily carried out their 'manly' tasks it became quite a discouraging experience because i found other 'unskilled' jw's guarded their jobs very closely & said they did not need any help.. if it was a place of christian joy i did not find.. .

The magazines didn't used to be so dumb and boring
by Lore inhere's an excerpt from this weeks watchtower study in 1950: .
*** w50 6/15 p. 180 a victory dedicated to jehovahs honor ***.
the strategy, and the attack.

It would appear that the writing committee already suspects or knows that the GB really doesn't care about any articles being well written (as long as they remind the rank & file to "obey the slave" in some form and at regular intervals)...

Explanation of the image in Daniel
by What Now? inhey everyone!.
we just had our convention this weekend and heard the "new light" regarding the feet of the image in daniel.
even the speaker made the comment that he had given that talk a number of times and didn't quite get it himself.

Didn't they use to say that the feet were the anglo-american super-power back in the 70's and then changed it to all world governments? I'm confused....

The Governing Body has NEVER claimed to be inspired
by Alfred inthere was a recent thread here which covered the subject of the gb claiming to be spirit directed (and not actually inspired by the holy spirit).
by now, most of us are quite aware that this is just a play with words to excuse themselves whenever one of their false doctrines is debunked (by someone using the bible or their own publications).
but when you think of it, spirit-directed is actually more presumptuous than spirit-inspired.. that being said, id really like to draw attention to the fact that the wt continuously claims that the governing body of jehovahs witnesses has never claimed to be inspired by god (through his holy spirit).

New arrangement
by DagothUr ini don't know if anyone has already posted this since i was in corfu island in the last 2 weeks.
it's from the jwn forum:.
september 2011 km says, "publishers auxiliary pioneering during march 2012 will have the option of working toward a 30-hour or a 50-hour requirement for the month.
-
Alfred
I think the trick here is to keep lowering the hours to about 25 for aux pioneers and 45 for regular pioneers... Then make a "special announcement" at the 2014 DC whereby all the new pioneers (who, by then, will be thoroughly enjoying the benefits of their "elevated status") will be asked to step it up for the "final stretch" (which will be a continuous campaign until Jehovah officially ends the worldwide work). Yeah... I know this is just wild speculation but I really wouldn't put it past them...

You're so right Scully... I guess the point I was trying to make is that the GB 1st claimed to be holy-spirit-inspired and then decided to spin themselves out of this claim (when they found themselves exposed) by changing their status to holy-spirit-directed... All so they can escape being held accoutable... But when the Writing Committee came up with this creative term, they did't even realize that being "directed" by holy spirit (versus being spirit inspired) actually makes the GB even more accountable for their flip-flops, false teachings and failed predictions... Incredibly ridiculous...

2011 District Convention "Let Us Be Bored and Confused Into Obedience"
by ranmac inthis has already been discussed but i need to vent.. i just spent the most painful weekend of my life sitting thru this years dc.
what an unbelievably pointless, soulless and demeaning spectacle the assemblies are.
the three days were a blur of monotanous droning and brainwashing.

Ranmac... Thanks for the reply... I asked the question because I've heard that statement many years ago (that helping the poor, building hospitals and schools is a form of "worshiping society" versus worshiping God, or words to that effect), but no further explanation is ever provided... I've also heard: "Jesus asked us to preach the good news not to build hospitals"... I think this is just a cop out and a lame excuse for not making significant and/or tangible contributions to the community...

I know there were a few articles written before 1955 that implicitly elevate the FDS to the level of a "spirit-inspired" prophet, but I currently don't have quick access to these... I know they exist because I came across these in the past... If anyone can find such articles, please share... Thanks!
