I had a good solid year of being pretty sure it was all a lie. After I was sure, then I came on here, and met a lot more people who also knew. I never had anyone to talk to until I joined. Finally I could say it all without censure.

What emotions have you been coping with?

was there a gap of time between you thinking you didn't want to continue and actually, consciously, deciding to no longer continue as on of jws?
it's amazing to me the strong hold this religion puts on you.

The faith is the faith in the government itself. When you lose faith in the government, you have no faith in its currency. Let's take a hypothetical situation of a country called Lumbago. Lumbago produces shoes, corn, clothing, etc. Prices are stable. Suddenly there is a military coup. Within days, certainly weeks, although the production of goods has not changed, the currency experiences massive, even astronomical inflation. It is not the production that changed. It is the perception as to the stability of the government. Do you see my point?
It's not that I don't agree with the viewpoint that the value of money is tied to production of goods and so on, it's just that I am making a point that it is just as much a matter of faith as anything else. When you are watching Squawkbox in the morning, the anticipation is always on "what is the fed, the central bank going to do...(fill in the blank) because every financial equalizing action is tied to what a government does or does not do.
I would like to carry on further, but unfortunately, it is time to get a drink and get settled to watch "The Closer", one of my favorite shows. But I'll check these posts later.

Terry, for money to have any value at all, it must first be seen as a matter of faith on the part of the issuer. The full faith of the United States government is what gives our money value in the eyes of the world. When that faith is destroyed, then our money is not valued.

The only real money Government has is taken directly from the citizens.
In a manner of speaking, there is really no such thing as "real money".
That is why the financial crisis had to be addressed. Since money is not real, and merely a matter of faith (hmmm, like Jehovah's Witnesses?) then the illusion must be preserved or the entire house of cards will fall.

by Aussie Oz inbeen going nuts looking for this.. i am sure i have read, and probably saved, a quote by them about not being false prophets but i am buggered if i can find it anywhere in search, google or my own pc.. can you help?.
i think its 2009 but not sure, where they have the line 'never have we said ''jehovah has said'' when ...'.

I forgot to mention the high control they will insist on. You will be told what kind of movies to see and entertainment is allowed, what clothes you should wear, what kind of jobs you can have, what kind of education your children should get, what sex acts you are allowed to perform in the marital arrangement (a lot of people don't like the ban on oral sex, but you must obey), how you should spend your time, how your children should not participate in after school activites or school sports, how to spend your money, what kinds of charitable organizations you can donate to, and on and on and on. Believe me, if they came to the door and told you the truth about what is involved, you would have slammed the door in their face.....

The help and love you are currently receiving from the Witnesses must be making such a difference in your life. Loving (worshiping) God does lead you to a more peaceful frame of mind.
A word of caution, however, those who have told you that this site is for ex-witnesses are correct. For that reason alone, I hope you consider staying to read the stories of those lost in "the truth" for sometimes many decades. I have been in for six decades and I can personally sttest to the terrible destruction that my life as a Jehovah's witness has caused my children and grandchildren. I was raised in "the truth" and never considered anything else. One of the things that Jehovah's Witnesses do is to make you terribly afraid to look at other information. When I finally had the courage to look into this myself (and I am referring to looking in their own publications and seeing just what we say and have said, and the crazy things we have taught in the past (like the fact we taught about 607 and 1914 based on the measurements of the pyramid) and many more examples, I realized that this is not "the truth" at all.
You owe it to your children to find out the truth about the truth. Read "The Best of Topics" section, and look at the personal experiences as well, and DON'T BE AFRAID AS I WAS to look at the information. My family has been ruined in many ways, and their youth lost. One of my children has never had the pleasure of having a child of their own. They gave it up because they wanted to postpone it until "the new system". No one has a real career or the education to obtain one. They will discourage higher education VERY STRONGLY. Don't underestimate the impact this will have on your kids. Please, please take the time to ponder over this and don't let anyone tell you it is wrong to examine what they teach carefully, and WITH SOURCES OUTSIDE THEIR OWN PUBLICATIONS.
You have already probably been taught not to look at anything outside the Watchtower publications. That is one of the marks of a cult, only reading the information they provide, isolating yourself in some way from outside influences, teaching that those outside influences are dangerous and possibly controlled by Satan, as well as other things. I personally am deeply regretful that I never looked.
Please stay with us. You will learn things. If, after a few days or weeks, you still want to continue, then do so, but don't get into this blindly.
I have found most here to be wonderful people. There are a few who are somewhat hateful, (or appear to be) and it can be very off-putting to a new person. Ignore those posts at this point. Realize that there is a great deal of anger on their part. Some have lost family members to the blood policy. Some have lost family members to prison for the old doctrine regarding military service. Some have lost loved ones to death because of the policy of organ transplants being "cannibalistic" or they lost their sight. They died because of kidney failure for not being able to use dialysis, or blood fractions, which have recently been allowed. There are brothers and sisters who endured persecution including the rapes of thousands of women and daughters and the burning downof the houses of thousands in the country of Malawi. Check out what the policy of disfellowshipping is. If your children decide later that they don't want to accept this organization, you will be expected to completely turn against them, not even talking to them,possibly for the rest of both of your lives. They will have had no friendships outside of the organization, and will be alone in the world, shunned by all family and friends, and their lives ruined. You would not have good a good relationship with your grandchildren if this happens. Your children will be encouraged to be baptized young. This ensures that they will be in the position where this "disfellowshipping" can and does happen to them. Nearly two thirds of the young ones leave. I know many mothers who cry in the bathroom during meetings sometimes because they miss their kids. They don't tell you things like this now, do they?
Yes, you will find anger here. Lots have very, very good reasons. I bid you welcome, and I hope you stay and learn.

A deep deep hurt
by sooner7nc inwhen i was a couple of months old my father was put into prison in seagoville, texas.
the watchtower took him away from me for almost 2 years and destroyed almost all hope that he and i would ever have a normal relationship.
i say this because i believe the bond that we should have formed when i was a baby was severed forever and that's the damnable shame of it all.

I am glad you posted this. Foolishly, all I had ever considered in regard to prison terms for objectors was the youth and promise lost for the young man. It never occurred to me what an impact this would have on a child. I guess I never thought about young men having a child at this point of their lives. What a truly terrible thing this policy was. How hypocritical of the governing body to sit there at Brooklyn, while young families are destroyed.
Stories like this are quickly turning me into the kind of apostate that would hand out leaflets at a convention!
Take care of your children (as I am sure you are) and at least the cycle of Watchtower induced pain will end with you...

Judicial Matters and the "Repentance Scale"
by Hangin_on inan elder once said that a key thing they are trying to determine in a judicial committee is if the offender's "repentance level" matches the seriousness of their sin.
for example if they committed fornication that is a serious sin (an 8 or 9).
they want to see the offender showing a repentance level of 8 or 9.
