this is what the guest speaker was saying at my wife's hall yesterday.

she and i was babysitting our niece and since she had three kids going to the hall with her (including my two daughters) i figured i'd go with her to help out.

they were rambuctious and wild to say the least.. while i was in the hallway with my youngest daughter, i continued to listen to the speaker talk.

If someone's home were about to be swept away by raging floodwaters and you were entrusted with the task to warn them of the danger, you wouldn't tap on their door and say, "Can you picture yourself in a dryer place where no one has to worry about floods? Wouldn't a place like that be swell? Maybe I can stop back next week and give you one tiny detail about avoiding floods. Oh, I forgot to mention, I'm just a volunteer and any donations you can provide to further my work will be appreciated." NO! You would beat their door down and scream at them to get to safety! You would cut out all the BS and give them exactly what they need to know to get saved.

Faith motivates you to works, but they're not what saves you.

There is not one example in the Bible of a child being baptized. Why is that? There are examples of children who loved God and stayed faithful to him. Imo, child baptism takes the seriousness and responsibility away from dedication. If you're going to dedicate your life to God, you'd better make sure you can live up to that first; and that's not something children have the mental capability or experience to figure out. If you're a child, you might very much love God and want to serve him you're whole life. But I would say, you're doing it more out of fear and hoping that symbol is enough to stop God from killing you (and making your parents happy) since you lack that capability.

My brother and I once had a conversation as teenagers about who would survive Armageddon. I thought that only God would know why someone didn't join the JWs and there were a number of reasons why they wouldn't that we could think of; but ultimately it was up to him and I trusted he was loving and merciful. We agreed that since he could read hearts, and people are generally good, most everyone would survive; except for truly evil people. I never wanted to see Armageddon, I did look forward to the afterward. Of course, I never stopped to think about the dead bodies to clean up or children being killed as the WTBS taught.

Does anyone out there understand how i feel?

my name is tim, im 23, from the uk, and im currently a jw!.

ok... to cut a long story short... i love serving jehovah but ive begun now to embrace my sexuality as a gay man.. although im still attending the meetings, praying to jehovah and trying my hardest, i can no longer lie to myself about my sexuality.. i have had enough of feeling depressed and confused now - its killing me!!!.

does anyone else know what i feel like?

I felt the same way but for different reasons. There are people here who've been in your situation. Maybe an important question to ask is if God wants you to feel this way over something you can't change.

They do not necessarily accurately represent the species evolutionary history.The data on which they are based is noisy; the analysis can be confounded by horizontal gene transfer, hybridisation between species that were not nearest neighbors on the tree before hybridisation takes place, convergent evolution, and conserved sequences.

But do you understand how that doesn't disprove it? And there's also the mountains of evidence outside of mitochondrial DNA for the age of humans being a lot longer than 6000 years. Seriously, look into it. It's fascinating stuff. Nat Geo did a documentary on it and they have a website about it too.

But anyways, I'm off to bed. Have fun ignoring stuff! You never did get back to me on that other thread, that list of signs of a dangerous group. Maybe I'll bump it tomorrow.

Try allocating some radiocarbon dating for this civilization that indicates it spans more than 6000 years of human history.

Human ancestry studied through mitochondrial dna. Look it up. There's a lot more evidence than just those two things. Ignore mountains of evidence all you want, but don't be surprised when no one wants to debate you about it. It doesn't mean you're right, it means it's a waste of our time.

There's A Ghost At My Place Of Employment

ok some of you will laugh at this, but it's true, there is a spirit that haunts the premises where i work.. it has spoken to me once when i was locking up, it was 1 single word "hello", i looked around and saw nothing, i ignored it, set the alarm locked the door & went home.

other times i have felt something brush passed me as i have entered the building early in the morning.

the experience that got to me most happened the other nite when i was called back to the store by security, as i pulled into the drive way there was a man standing at the rear of the building, in the split second of looking away he dissapeared, there's no way that he could have run off the property in that split second.. what do you think?.

Of course Americans will tell him to go to hell; that's why this is not a problem at all, just fear-mongering. Sharia law will not affect us, unless congress and the white house all suddenly converted to Islam and changed our government to a theocracy.

Perfect example from that page:

Sounds very similar to that cleric. Simple answer, if you're afraid of Sharia support the seperation of church and state.

Interesting. He says the problem with our country is we've gone "away from the divine law and are making the law up according to their own whims and desires". Sound familiar? (School shootings started happening after they took God and prayers out of school, it's time to take our country back to God) They also fail to define Sharia law and say muslims here don't agree with it. Wrong. Sharia law has different interpretations by different clerics because it's based on the Q'uran which is also interpreted differently (that's where the different kinds of Islam come from), what's practiced in Saudi Arabia is not the Sharia that Muslim Americans practice. The cleric even says many of those countries don't practice Sharia. And Muslims already practice Sharia here and it's already held up by our courts. It encompasses how they invest, what foods they eat, how they divorce, funeral arrangements, etc. Know why that's not a problem for us? Because it only applies to Muslims and our constitution guarantees everyone the right to not be bound by religious law. Just as Jewish law only applies to Jews. Sharia does not mean terrorist, and it's really misleading for her to insinuate that.

So Fox news fails again by leaving out relevant information. It's almost amusing that people are so scared of words like sharia and jihad without bothering to find out what they actually mean to the people who practice it. It's a bit like a non-Christian looking at how JWs let their children die and tear apart families or how the WBC pickets funerals and concluding all Christians do that.

Understand that I don't defend anything that happens in the name of religion in the Middle East. We should all be disgusted by it. But I don't agree with fear-mongering through misinformation. It helps no one and harms Americans.

Oth, we should be worried about the Middle East. I don't think they're going to stand for our continued involvement over there much longer, doesn't bode well for our economy. And we should also be worried anytime someone suggests making a religious belief a law, Christian or Muslim. Seperation of church and state is a beautiful thing; Christian extremists in our own country are doing their best to tear that down. That's actually more a threat to us than Sharia.
