It comes as a shock to Stephan when his beloved older brother, Michael, one day leaves the Jehovah's Witnesses. Because the exit means breaking all contact to the family.

Stephan is very depressed because it is his deep conviction that Armageddon - the day on which all unbelievers are destroyed on the earth - will be the end of Michael, too.

It takes years before Stephen is aware that he can no longer accept the world view of Jehovah's Witnesses. He no longer wants to live with the constant threat of Armageddon.

He no longer wants to reject non-believers and so-called worldly people. Up till now he has only had close friendships within the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Stephen and his brother Michael were born into the religious community of Jehovah's Witnesses. Stephen knows what to expect when he leaves: he becomes a renegade.

Usually, that means no more contact with parents, relatives and friends of the faith community. Yet he dares the drastic step. He decides to go out and seeks help from his older brother.

But the two men are now strangers to one another. This documentary describes the approaching of the two men and what it means to leave behind a life as a Jehovah's Witness ."
