I listened to the meeting over the phone with my grandmother. This religion is nuts!!
by miseryloveselders inmy grandmother has been a little ill, and had to be put in a facility temporarily.
she should be getting out sometime next week.
i'm not particularly close with her, and that probably has a lot to do with my father.

"I need to do more Bible study"
by sabastious ini had a conversation with my brother a while back and i was venting about my frustrations about the watchtower.. after some heated discussion my brother told me that "he needed to do more bible study because he felt weak.".
i bit my tongue because i felt this to be a little comical.. this is something that witnesses are taught to do.
if they start to question the doctrine they are programmed to seek further indoctrination.. the interesting thing about my brother's statement was he used the buzz word "study.".

What I meant by taboo is something I would avoid under the wrong conditions.

It's the same reason that meditation and prayer is advocated, it become a taboo.
A meditating drone who,............prays. Hmmmmm,......It helps to reaffirm their belief system.

Are they really that bad???
by anonymous4 inhad a good look into the doctrine, beliefs and practices of jws and to be honest, i don't really see anything wrong with it at all.. it's biblical and i've had such an eye opener the past year or so reading some of their books and magazines .
is there really any real reasons why i shouldn't want to get involved further?
:-).

Violent entertainment and it's effects
by sabastious inthe watchtower has always talked about violence in entertainment.
it is one of the watchtower's historical hot topics.. and for good reason too.
virtual violent entertainment is a very new phenomenon in our world.
-
jay88
See, both of you are addressing short term effects (mainly) of violent entertainment.
You are focusing on what it makes YOU do and how it makes YOU feel. Which is good information for yourselves as individuals, but not so useful for speculation on the more widespread implications.

I heard a comment at the KH, that makes some sense----obvious there is more details involved that I don't know about,......
She said that soldier used simulations for training, I thought that is true----just look at pilots, people in motor sports, IT, etc,.......

Where do you go from here?
by still looking inafter either being a witness or studying with them, and you find out stuff that has you leave, where do you go?
i don't think they are the true religion, but i do think they teach a lot of stuff that is correct.
like the trinity being a false doctrine, no idle worship, including crosses, and hell isn't a forever torture.

Yes it is innate. That innateness enables inquiry that doesn't need to be contaminated by others and their belief systems
Those who came before us knew this also. And were willing to stuff our mind with BS before our mind could develop,
they too were captives.

Luckily, he didn't get the wrong person that was studying or what have you; It is safe to say that if he had caught a beat-down, there would not be any footage.

Okay, then, teach me...

Is a zealot teachable? or must they be overwhelmed with affliction to hear, and is that very affliction proof that god cares for you, that he is speaking to you.
Their is nothing wrong with having irritable bowel syndrome for you beliefs, however I have yet to know a person that is privy to diarrhea of speech, become a good listener,....good at rebuttal, but not listening.

Why do JW's become so "active and spiritual" during the overseer's visit?
by XPeterX inbit hypocritical don't you think?.

The difference is that at the real job, people are motivated by trying to move up and earn more money. In the KH, most people are motivated by guilt and fear. That's why the 'hardly-ever-show-ups' show up for that week. In the real world, if you had employees that rarely showed up and never produced for the company, they'd be fired long before the corporate manager showed up. In the KH world, they're allowed to bring production averages down for the entire division. So when the manager does show up, those that have been busy and active get frustrated that this loser who hasn't done shit in 6 months can show up and kiss ass.
