i've read alot of posts here regarding jw's and freemasonry, and so far i've seen the usual conjecture by non-masons, and a few well written opinions of the inquiring minds among us.. i'm a former jw from texas, and a current freemason in houston.

what specifically does the wts say as far as masonic membership.
Thanks for all the input from contibutors. My original quest was to find a precedence set regarding disfellowshipping on grounds of Masonic affiliation. I am still looking for that precedence.
I was hoping with the wide range of ex (and current) JWs that view and post here, at least a few would be able to relate some first hand knowledge of members that were DF'd for that specific reason.

we had supper together tonight at my parent's house.
after something came up about wt finances and whether the literature is free or "at no cost", leavintwt assured us that watchtower is not in the business of losing money.. "make no mistake about it.
this may be a non-prophet organization, but it's not a non-profit organization.. i think you probably would have to be there to get the full effect.. lol.
I've often wondered about their revenue streams too. I know from reliable information that they're quite viable financially, but I can't figure out where the cash comes from.
I agree with Serenity on the Assemblies and conventions. Too bad they still don't "slang hoagies and frito pies". But I'm still a little partial to the cheese danishes and vanilla pudding. Simply to die for.

thetrueone - thanks for accepting me on my word. i was a member of the orange hart congregation in orange texas. if you would like any more information than that, feel free to message me. my dad was an elder and presiding overseer for years. i became a publisher at the age of 13 and was baptized at 16 at the Houston astrodome in the summer of 1988. But I can't convince you of anything. Either believe it or not. As far as knowing the position of the WTS on Freemasonry, I asked for precedence on it being a disfellowshipping offense, not how they "feel" about the AF&AM Fraternity. And thanks for the tip on spell check. I shall look into it.

Endofmysteries - you can leave anytime. I joined at the age of 38 and had done years of research before I did. Not really too many secrets anymore. And although I won't divulge any part of my personal membership history, any discerning mind with a computer can find out most things pretty quickly. The trick is distinguishing between fact and fiction.

Recovering - I too feel that most judicial committees would act swiftly with the full wrath of af a long-inactive war-mongering Hebrew deity, but I'm looking for some precedence in this arena. Anyone know of someone that was DF'd for joining?
Designs - Thanks for your comment too. Also thanks for stating that CT was accused of membership. I can tell you for a fact that he was not. Although he once said to a congregation "I am a Mason, as are all of you Masons." He later (in the same speech) said that he was not truly a member of the organization even though he did closely associate with those that were.

I'm a former JW from Texas, and a current Freemason in Houston. My question is:
What specifically does the WTS say as far as Masonic membership. I know it is "strongly discouraged", but is joining a Lodge an offense worthy of having the "John Smith is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses" announcement.
Oh...and my apologies to any current or past LDS members; John Smith was the first neutral, very general name I could think of.
Any insights would be valued highly. Thanks in advance.
