A more accurate name for LaVey's followers should be Church of Egoism. They don't believe in God or Satan--only themselves and their interests. Doesn't that make you tremble?

by gravedancer inas anyone who has read my posts knows i am an atheist - a non-believer in any god or in any devil.
i found the following interview to be quite interesting.it is from the february 23, 1986 washington post magazine.
i encourage everyone to read it and see what the founder of the satanic church had to say....in many qays he sounds like many of us here.. it is interesting that anton lavey(the founder of the church) did not believe in god or in satan.. here is the article: http://www.churchofsatan.com/pages/wapost.html.

Listening to the Silence
by kenpodragon insometimes when i have gotten home from a busy day or spent way to much time with family members, i like to go into my office or out into the garden.
at this time i will sit and listen to the silence.
the lack of noise brings me peace at times, when i do not have to hear everyone's problems or deal with how upset everyone thinks the world is making them.

"Then the Lord said [to Elijah], 'Go outside and stand on the mountain before the Lord; the Lord will be passing by.' A strong and heavy wind was rending the mountains and crushing rocks before the Lord--but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake--but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was fire--but the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound. When he heard this, Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went and stood at the entrance of the cave.' " 1 Kings 19:11-13
God speaks in the still, small voice within.

It's amazing what crock people will write for the sake of sensationalism. Wherever did this fellow come up with the idea that Russell was ritually killed? He has not one shred of evidence to substantiate his claim.

Did God Condone the Slave Trade?
by Kenneson inthat is the title of one of the current topics at watchtower.org.
while the slave trade may not have been condoned by god, article doesn't really answer the question as to why god did not condemn slavery outright.
it seems to me that the bible takes a neutral stand towards slavery, accepting it as a social fact.

It seems to me that some forms of slavery in Biblical times were not of one's choosing, where a person could just walk away if he didn't like it. One example is that of the Israelites in Egypt. Had they been satisfied with their lot, they would never have chosen freedom. Another example-- the Gentile slaves, who were mostly war captives, or purchased from regular slave-dealers. These could be freed at the will of the master, but there was no law requiring it. They might never be permitted to walk away.
I think the best description for the type of "slavery" that existed among the Israelites should be called indentured servants. No Israelite could become permanently the slave of another Israelite, but must be freed when he had paid the debt for which he was sold; or in the seventh year of his service whether the debt was paid or not; and in the year of Jubilee, whatever the time he had served. There is no forcible permanence in this type of "slavery."
Now after the Civil War there may have been a few blacks who chose to remain with their masters, but the numbers are not that appreciable. I would think that few people enjoy being owned by another.

That is the title of one of the current topics at watchtower.org. While the slave trade may not have been condoned by God, article doesn't really answer the question as to why God did not condemn slavery outright. It seems to me that the Bible takes a neutral stand towards slavery, accepting it as a social fact. The New Testament, in particular tells slaves to be obedient to their masters but that masters should be kind to their slaves (Eph. 6:5-9; Col. 3:22-4:1; 1 Tim. 6:1; 1 Pet. 2:18)
There is no attack on the institution of slavery directly. At best, the principle of inequality is addressed. (1 Cor. 7:21-23) There is no distinction between slave and free in Jesus (1 Cor. 12:13; Gal. 3:28; Col. 3:11). If one adheres to Christian love and unity, then how can one regard another man as property?
In this country, the only effective destroyer of slavery was not the Bible or the churches, but the Civil War and man's laws. The churches got on the bandwagon after the fact, with perhaps one exception, the Quakers.
We also must not forget that slavery still exists in some countries. And it probably won't be the churches or the Bible that will bring its demise there, either.

Need help: JW and Crystal Night 1938
by Atreyu inat june 24, the former editor of "bergens tidende", the main newspaper of bergen, norway, wrote an article about jw versus nazi-germany.
obviously, he has recently seen one of the videos from wts about the issue.
the article stated that jw was the only church that raised their voice in protest against the "crystal night" in 1938, when the nazis ravaged jewish synagoges, shops and homes and sent thousands of jews to consentration camps.

One of my favorite articles on the topic is enitled "The Watchtower's Nazis Conflicts: A History of Watchtower Cowardliness and Witness Preservance" by Jerry Bergman, Ph.D. It covers the suffering that Jws endured under the Nazis, the inconsistences on the number who died in the camps, the betrayal within the German Watchtower leadership and the compromise to the Nazis made by Watchtower leaders.

The following is rather amusing. Make sure you read the letter by the Jw and the note by the Mormon--in spite of the sign.

Can 'truth' change?
by wholewheat in.
in another thread i posted the following thought, but i wanted to post this for everyone to see and give their input.. the argument that 'truth' never changes holds no water.
according to random house webster's dictionary, 'truth' is defined as follows,"conformity with fact or reality".. the word 'conform' is defined as,"to bring into agreement".. if 'truth' never changes, then how can something taught in science that is considered to be 'exact', later be corrected by 'conforming with fact or reality so as to bring into agreement'?
