  most of us are reasonably familiar with reports of scandalous goings-on of that old jellyfish lecher, the founder of the watchtower cult, the one and only charles taze russell.. but, are these stories true?.

  this thread is going to be devoted to his allegedly scurrilous activities.

  so, bookmark it, please, bro' focus is in possession of noo light, and we're going to explore russell like you've never seen him explored before.. we're approaching his 100th death anniversary, and for all i know this virtual exhumation may lead to a real one.

  Rosemount United Cemetery is located in Allegheny, Pa. This is where Charles Taze Russell is buried. See

  There is a Masonic cemetery across the road, which has no connection to Rosemount. The Cross and the Crown on the pyramid structure was a religious emblem of the time used by other groups of the times besides the Bible Students. Those motifs can be seen in other cemeteries elsewhere and on graves of people who were not Bible Students. (Cross & Crown came to be debunked). The pyramid was thought by Russell and the Bible Students to be God's stone witness corroborating Biblical time periods (Isa. 19:19). This belief was later debunked by Rutherford et al in 1928.

  i keep liking what i hear from this pontiff.

  he lamentes not keeping a day of no work to spend with the family.. .

  campobasso, italy (ap) pope francis has lamented the abandoning of the traditionally christian practice of not working on sundays, saying it has a negative impact on families and friendships....... at one point, the pope, speaking off the cuff, encouraged parents to spend more time with children.

  I think everyone should have a rest day. Big business doesn't think so. It sees everyday as $ day. I make it a point not to shop on Sunday--and to rest. But, most workers don't have that choice.

  some souls here may feel i was a little harsh.

  if so, i am deeply sorry.

  i was abused by a handful right from the start, presumably on the basis of the avatar picture (and 2001 vintage).. when visiting dubland, i often find that others start fights with me - for whatever reason, and i provide quite a supply of them - and when it doesn't quite go the way they expected, they cry persecution.

  I just saw recently at http://www.topix.net/forum/religion/jehovahs-witness/ someone who posted there as AlanMF. He is responding to Thirdwitness on a topic entitled "Evidence indicating Egypt's 40 Year Desolation." The title of this topic is approaching the end of the page you will be linked to. Click "Evidence, etc." Alan's response is on page 3. He has made some 3,800 posts or so at topix. I presume this is the same Alan F.

  as i said elsewhere, it was a remarkable one.

  the speaker was manfred vencebi (google him - he's a bethel bigwig) and some of his remarks are real gems.

  When you get to that page click on "Search for The Time Is At Hand." According to Russell, in the Foreward, inventions meant that the Millennium had BEGUN in 1873!

  So, because there are abuses in technology, it is not a good way to measure progress? Compare that to what Charles Taze Russell, the founder of their Watchtower magazine and Society, had to say about inventions. He claimed they pointed to the Seventh Day or Millennium! LOL Read the foreward of "The Times Is At Hand."

  Actually Ironside belonged to the Plymouth Brethren, which in many respects are similar to Jehovah's Witnesses. They were

  founded by J. Nelson Darby in 1829.

  The term "Watch Tower" originated with the Second Adventists and was a carry over by Charles Taze Russell to his own religious periodical and Society. Even the Proclaimers book admits as much. In the footnote we read: "The expression 'Watch Tower' is not unique to Russell's writings or to Jehovah's Witnesses. George Storrs published a book in the 1850's called The Watch Tower: Or, Man in Death; and the Hope for a Future Life. The name was also incorporated in the title of various religious periodicals. It stems from the idea of keeping on the watch for the outworking of God's purposes.--Isa. 21:8,11,12; Ezek. 3:17; Hb. 2:1."

  Nor was there anything divine or original about the name Judge Rutherford gave to the International Bible Students in 1931. H.A. Ironside in 1911 in "Lectures on Daniel the Prophet" when referring to the Jews (he didn't have the International Bible Students in mind) whom the promises of Isa.43 would be fulfilled, noted on page 152:

  "These shall be Jehovah's witnesses, testifying to the power and glory of the one true God, when apostate Christendom shall have been given up to the strong delusion to believe the lie of the Antichrist."

  I think what they disapprove of is interaction with apostates on the internet. But, there are those who think think this is a generalization and it does not apply to them since they consider themselves "spiritually mature".
