Pentecost 33 CE (well, maybe?)
When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia , Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, [ a ] 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome - Acts 2:6-10 NIV
So these people went home and started to meet in little communities. The little communities grew larger ...
The ruins of Saint Elijah's Monastery founded in 595 AD south of Mosul by the Christian monk Mar Elia (from Wikipedia)
They were caught up in many conflicts (the Roman-Sassanian wars, the spread of Islam, etc) but they hung on and survived. In the 1980's there may have been about 1,500,000 Christians in Iraq.
Then President Boy George had his brain-snap and invaded Iraq, and now there are less than 250,000 and droping in the midst of the chaos tht President boy George managed to unleash.
Two years ago, the Orthodox Pope in Lebanon sent Mar (father) Jalal Yako to attempt to build up the community. He says he has failed and its time for Christians to leave Iraq.
But in the past six months Father Yako has changed his mind, and he now believes that, after 2,000 years of history, Christians must leave Iraq. Speaking at the entrance of a half-built mall in the Kurdish capital Irbil where 1,650 people from Qaraqosh have taken refuge, he said that “everything has changed since the coming of Daesh (the Arabic acronym for Islamic State). We should flee. There is nothing for us here.” When Islamic State (Isis) fighters captured Qaraqosh on 7 August, all the town’s 50,000 or so Syriac Catholics had to run for their lives and lost all their possessions.
So the END has arrived for 2000 years of Christian historyin Iraq.
And Jesus, who promised:
" Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Is nowhere to be seen

Yeah, mine too.
I got rid of my copy of the Commentary on James. Sorry I did that now, I would have liked to compare it to what is said about the Letter in academic publications. I suspect that something in that book was a trigger for events in Brooklyn. I once told the Aussie branch overseer that I really liked that book, and got the third degree of questioning as to why. (in an exceptionally nice way)
Still have, and use, my copy of the Aid book and its immediate successor.

It all got worse for the Reverend Manning when he (accidentally) tweeted a copy of the video to 4000 of his followers.
Anti-gay hate preacher accidentally tweets 4,000 followers cartoon clip of him 'confessing' to be a 'homosexual sodomite'
A controversial anti-gay hate preacher has mistakenly tweeted a satirical cartoon mash-up that sees him confessing to being a “homosexual sodomite”.
New York pastor James David Manning, leader of the ATLAH World Missionary Church in Harlem, appears to have shared Adam Reake’s video with his 4,215 followers accidentally – or at least without actually watching the entire clip.
Mr Reake’s mash-up has the anti-gay hate preacher, who most recently urged his followers to boycott Starbuck because – according to him – the global chain has been using the “sodomites’ semen” to flavour their lattes, confess to being a “homosexual sodomite”.
He then goes on to say in the video: “Now I know why I go to Starbucks.”
The video continues in a similar vein for the rest of the three minutes and it has already clocked up over 2,000 views since being published earlier this week.
It seems unlikely Manning, who in an interview earlier this year said he regards homosexuality as a “detestable, abominable, diseased practise”, is aware of the full content of the cartoon.
He first came to America’s attention in 2008 when he accused then-presidential candidate Barack Obama’s mother of being “white trash” for sleeping with a black man and since then has become embroiled in various other unsavoury campaigns.
These include, but are not limited to, accusing President Obama of “using gay people to wipe out the black community”, claiming that Starbucks is “ground zero” for Ebola and calling on Harlem residents to boycott all shops thus halting gentrification and returning the neighbourhood to the black community, who he perceives are the sole rightful owners.
ATLAH, All The Land Anointed Holy, Church was founded by Reverend Millard Alexander Stanley in 1957. In 1981 Manning replaced Stanley as chief pastor.
