Another smaller but potential competitor to the Airbus/Boeing dominance is Japan. Here's a pik of regional aircraft being prepared by Mitsubishi:

How many average Citizens of China or Russia can afford to buy an airline ticket?
DocI last flew in China in 2006. The airports in both Beijing and Shanghai were large and crowded. Its a two hour flight from BJ to SH and it cost me A$100.00. The plane was full.
I now prefer to travel by Very Fast Train, Beijing to Shanghai takes 4.5 hours for about the same current cost. The advantage is that the stations are in the city centres and you don't have to be at the station an hour before boarding.
I will try to find out current passenger numbers and post later.

China's first regional passenger jet, known as the ARJ21-700 (pictured in flight at the Zhuhai Air Show in 2010), has just passed its airworthiness tests.
Certified: China's first indigenous regional jet
English.news.cn 2014-12-31 09:55:32
BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- China's first domestically produced regional jet model has been officially certified. This marks a crucial step forward for the jet's entry into the market.
The ARJ21-700 won the certificate after a series of examinations by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, using the country's air-worthiness standards. ARJ-21 is short for Advanced Regional Jet for the 21st Century.
The regional liner was designed and manufactured by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China. There are 78 seats in a dual-class configuration, and 90 seats in a full economy class configuration. Its economic life is designed to be 60-thousand flying hours or 20 calendar years.
(Source: CNTV.cn)This is still a long way from making the Chinese aviation industry a competitor of Airbus and Boeing, but its a step in that direction.
Comac (the Chinese manufacturer) will most directly compete with Canadian Bombadier Aerospace and Brazilian Embraer. Japan's Mitsubishi also have some competing products.

This is in The People's Republic of China, the mainland if you like.
The song has apparently gone viral, one western news report claims 900,000,000 views of the various cover versions on Youku (Chinese Youtube)
From the cities to the farms people seem to like it.
An issue of The Japan Times stated that rescue soldiers and police doing rescue work in the big earthquake of last August, made this version to comfort kids rescued from the debris of the quake.

Street life in China is always lively. In the big shopping streets, this kind of performance is common, and since 'Little Apple' became popular, naturally its everywhere...

by fulltimestudent inbeing a bit focussed on keeping up with what the comrades are doing in china, i've been missing out what the topp twins are doing in new zealand.
well actually, i was checking a serious essay in a quite serious chinese journal, and suddenly there's a reference to the topp twins.
i did a double take, but then realised that we live in a connected world and you can no longer confine knowledge to any geographical site.. so meet my new discovery, new zealands own- the topp twins:.

And, if you'd like to know more about them, here's a mention in the NZ government's Encyclopedia:

Topp Twins and their partners, 2009
Lynda and Jools Topp were out as lesbians when they began their careers as entertainers in the early 1980s. The country-and-western comedy duo, now middle-aged, appeared with their partners at the premiere of the movie The Topp Twins: untouchable girls at the Sky City Centre in Auckland, in April 2009. Donna Luxton and Lynda Topp (left image) had been together for four years and lived in South Canterbury with Luxton's two sons. Jools Topp and Mary Massara (right) had a lifestyle block in West Auckland and had been partners for 16 years.
