It was August/September 1975, and nothing much had happened in the world, in spite of Jw expectations. But it seems there must have been a lot of discussion in Brooklyn because Nathan Knorr and Freddy Franz were travelling to various centres to explain why 'nothing much was happening.'
When it got to Sydney's (Aust) turn, the meeting was held for elders at the Greenacre Assembly Hall, Nathan kicked off the meeting by saying, that by this date, it did not seem that there was enough time left in the year for all the things to happen that the bible said would happen.
I noticed the way Nathan spoke, of course he was already a sick guy, but there was something else about him, a kind of resignation, as he spoke. He introduced Franz, to explain why that might be. Franz regurgitated some of the points he'd already made in some book, about the difficulties of calculating timelines in the bible etc. Which made it difficult to understand why they had decided to nominate 1975 as the YEAR in which it would all happen.
But, as we see from a 2022 viewpoint, 1975 etc is just another failed prediction of an event that is unlikely to ever happen - because it foundation is based on myth and superstition.
But it remained important for me. Why? because I saw firsthand Knorr's own sagging disappointment and experienced an awakening insight into christian rubbish.
Whatever the jargon used, 'End of world', 'Armageddon' 'Rapture' to encapsulate some biblical idea the fact remains that it's all based on fake information,
And it will never happen

Someone associated with Wikipedia has compiled this list of the many failed predictions of Christ's return. The predictions seem to come from many believers across a spectrum of various religions. it does however, miss one that we would be aware of, Freddy Franz's 1975.

Umm! Yes, I'd agree that there can be a lot of jargon (in your words- 'a whole set of language terms) among special interest groups. You seem to be North American so yes! a term like 'rapture' carries special meanings to members of North American churches (like verbal shorthand) but may not be used by members of other churches. In the Anglican church I attended when young, I don't think that term was ever used. Later I worked at Sydney Uni and went to lot's of protestant meetings without ever coming into contact with that (jargon) word. Do Catholics use that word? Do Orthodox Christians use that term?
I'm sorry for attaching such a long quote, but here's a complaint about the word, by a person that seems to be a member of a web-site with the title, "International Churches of God."

Hmmm!
'Church Age', 'the rapture', etc is that terminology somehow different to the jw's use of terms like, 'governing body,' 'anointed,' 'other sheep' etc.
Not defending the (indefensible) jws, just pointing out that all religions develop their own terminology.

YHWH's threat didn't happen, because David repented, but then YHWH punishes someone else, who has to die, because David did something wrong.
Continuing to read in the Divine record:
15 After Nathan had gone home, the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife had borne to David, and he became ill. 16 David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth[b] on the ground. 17 The elders of his household stood beside him to get him up from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat any food with them.
18 On the seventh day the child died.
So this unborn child is condemned to death, and has to die because his father did something wrong.
YHWH doesn't come out of this biblical experience looking good, does he?

There's been a few commentaries on this topic of late, so i'm offering a few more thoughts.
Here's an extract from 2 Samuel 12, consider for a moment the implications.
7 Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more.
So no individual choice for these women. They seem to be just property, Iike Saul's 'house.' Even if they didn't want to be given to David, they became his property.
But read a little further and ... and YHWH threatens to give David's women to someone else.
11 “This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight. 12 You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.’”
And we note that their next owner was going to have sex with these women in public, because that was YHWH's way of punishing David. So again women appear to be, in YHWH's mind, just property.
That threat didn't happen, because David repented, but YHWH punishes someone else, who suffers death because David did something wrong.
We can think about YHWH's next threat in the next post.

by Chezdale inhello elle2 and welcome to the forum.. thank you enoughisenough for the post about alternatives to babylon the great.. i tend to go back to the first babylon account in genesis ch 11 – a very short fascinating event.. mankind it says, was of “one set of words” they understood each other.
apparently it was after the flood and they were working unitedly they built this thing, tower ziggy what thingy and they all had the same language, understood each other and achieved stuff.
it was called the tower of babel.. babel means confusion.
