ok, this will probably sound really stupid to most people but.... when i was little, i had a go of a toy called 'vertibird' in a shop near us.. it was brilliant!.
this was the one toy i have always wanted.
whenever i've been to toys-r-us with the kids i've always looked out for them but, alas, i've never found them.. until now !.
Simon
I had that same toy as a kid and loved it!! Must have played that thing for months straight until the motor eventually burned out. By that time, there were no more to be found. I asked everyone I knew where to get another one, but noone had ever heard of it. I did find one similar to it at a toy store last year and bought it for my nephew for christmas, but I was the one who hogged it the most. Btw, how many times could you pick up the man without crashing? I could only do it once.

ps. nephews motor has burned out too. looking for another one now.

There was once a man who was a great artist. He was well known worldwide by fellow artists and art collectors due to the beauty and greatness of his paintings. Some would even go so far as to rate his paintings with the likes of Michalangelo, Picasso, Rembrandt. He had a great fortune monetarily and lived an extremely rich life, due to the fact that his paintings were highly valued and brought top dollar at auctions and galleries around the world.
As great as his passion was for painting, he had a passion much more dear to him. His wife had passed away several years earlier and was forced to raise his only son alone.
His son was in his late teens, and was born mentally challenged so growing up to live a productive life as far as being self supportive was not ever likely going to happen. The father knew this, but felt blessed that he had the financial means to take care of him, even after he died.
This artist shared everything with his son. They lived together, ate together, went everywhere together. The love that the father had for this son was one that most people would be envious of. His son was, as far as he was concerned, the only important thing in this world to him, in spite of his fortune.
The artist was dying, and he knew it. He had been diagnosed with cancer several months earlier. The doctors were the best in the world but nothing they did could slow it down. He knew he had little time left, so he contacted his attorney to arrange for his son and his estate. His instruction were to hold an auction of the paintings that he did that were never sold, knowing that they would bring in more money after his death. All of the proceeds would go into a fund that would support his son for the rest of his life. His own fortune was more than enough to take care of this already, but those were his instructions anyway. Shortly thereafter, the father passed away.
The death was a surprise to the world as this artist kept his medical condition secret. An announcement was made then for an auction to take place. People from around the world came to bid on a personal collection from this man as at this point became very valuable due to his death.
The attorney handling these matters started the auction by announcing that it was the will of this artist to begin the auction by placing a painting, done by his only son up for bid before anything else. This painting had terrible colors, no defintion, didn't have any artistic value, it was just plain awful. Nevertheless, no other bidding would be allowed until this painting was sold.
"we will begin the bidding at $100." Everyone was silent. You could hear whispering and uneasiness in the crowd. "What's up with this?" people were saying. "We are here for a chance at one of the greatest collections of our time, and someone has to buy this before we can get to it?" Everyone there was getting impatient.
Finally, someone there who knew the artist personnaly and out of respect for him and knowing the love he had for his son stood up and shouted "I'll bid $100 for that painting." The attorney then said "Once, going twice, SOLD for $100." He then announced that the auction was over.
The crowd became angry "What's up with this?" The attorney explained that this was the artist's wishes as to how the auction would be conducted. The one who bid on the first painting would get everything.
MORAL of the STORY: He who takes the son, get's everything.
Please remember I am writing this from memory and if anyone knows the original please let me know, I would appreciate it.
Funny thing, when I was a JW, I never got this message.

perhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.
as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.
since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.
Ill make a wager of one hundred dollars that on November 11, 2001 armageddon will take place or the sun will rise that day. love the cop out YK.

this is, i must admit, a most confusing board to negotiate.
however, i happened upon a fledgling project by a mr. bboyneko which appears to provide an excellent entree into the un issue.. http://www.bboyneko.com/jw/.

Am I Doing something wrong here? I just tried to click on to the links and came up with errors on each one, except for the UN link.
I do agree about the logo, it is well done and to the point.

i don't know if this was discussed here before, but, what is the most ignorant comment you ever heard an elder say.
i once had an elder say to me that my brother, who was at the time fighting in vietnam will be destroyed and killed over in 'nam because he did not accept "jehovah"!!!!
i promptly told him to go "f" himself.
One elder said during a sunday talk that all rock bands gave a prayer to Satan before each show. He added "it's a fact, people". everyone knew i had just been to a concert a week earlier. I told a friend of mine that he must have been praying with them and thats how he knew.
The worst one for me was when our PO told me that if I was visiting my father (non jw) and armageddon came, I would die, and if not, I would be df'd because he was living in sin. Like an idiot, I told my father. Things were never the same.
i apologize for harping on the same theme; however, i feel that at this juncture we need to step up the heat.
merely talking amongst ourselves is not going to achieve too much.
the un/wts issue, together with silentlambs and ajwrb, presents, in my view, the greatest opportunity in a long time for getting results.
Great Idea. I would be happy to donate 5 or 10 to this cause. It would take some serious planning though in a limited amount of time. I do believe, that the human rights issue to the Supreme Court could be used to our advantage. The Ohio "freedom of speech" deal, which the jws always jump up and down for has already made national news. What if the Supreme Court made more inquiries as to doctrinal beliefs in light and in contrast to the UN issue. Bang!! Then it ceases to be freedom of speech case and becomes "truth in advertising". And don't forget their own termonology of "theocratic warfare". Then it all becomes a nationally recognized US Supreme Court Case of spiritual warriors coming to your home under the pretense of false advertising. You may not need my 5 or 10.
for anyone who's interested, here is what i wrote:.

if i am right... you all are the morons.
if i am wrong the i am the moron.
hello to everyone, another newbie here.
found this board just a few days ago. seems to me that this topic has gotten way off base but makes me wonder if i should ever even ask a question. or at least not ask if i'm a moron for not completely understanding something that i'm sincerely looking for an answer.
well i finally got the guts to tell my mother that i had enlisted in the army.
she didn't say a whole lot to me, but she did tell my sister she was calling the elders and that when i was df'd she would have nothing to do with me.
i can't say that it suprises me too much, but i was hoping for more of an adult reaction.

I joined the military when i was 22. that was in 1985 and i was told i was dfd. i dont even know if it was df or da. it really didnt matter at the time for me. i can tell you that my mother reacted identically, but over some time, the loving human being that she is came to the top and things have been ok with us for quite a while now. we dont discuss any spirtitual issues and thats ok. im glad your mother recognized what really matters and i hope the best for you. i know it was a difficult decision to make on your part considering everything involved, but in my case i have never regretted it.
